Fox News Flash top headlines for Nov. 6 are here. Check out what’s clicking on Foxnews.com

A Walt Disney World guest was arrested and charged with battery for allegedly groping a princess character while taking a photo, a police report confirms.

Brian Sherman, 51, was visiting the park with his wife around 12:10 p.m. on Saturday when the pair went to take photos with Disney World characters at the grotto area of the Magic Kingdom.

The guest was charged with battery after the incident was reported to law enforcement.

During the photo, Sherman and his wife sat on either side of the Disney World employee, who was dressed as a Disney princess. Before the photo, Sherman repeatedly told the woman the princess she was portraying “is my favorite.” The type of Disney princess she was costumed as was not shared.

According to a police report shared with Fox News, Sherman “placed his right arm around” her shoulder, making her “immediately uncomfortable.” As her co-worker was tending to the line, Sherman allegedly lowered his arm until he was cupping the woman’s bra.

Other cast members told Sherman to pose in a different way so he would not be touching the woman. However, before moving, the man placed his hand under the woman’s costume and cupped her breast with his right forefinger and thumb “with only the thin skin-tight fabric” between, police said.

The Disney PhotoPass photographer took the pictures, which the employees used to identify the man to law enforcement.

The man was accused of groping a Disney Princess during a photo-op (not pictured) in the grotto area of the park’s Magic Kingdom.

Once Sherman left, the woman “began shaking and crying” and the grotto area was closed immediately, according to the report.

The Disney princess reported the incident, which she said lasted about four seconds, and police officers were called to the scene. Sherman was arrested and charged with battery.

According to reports, the woman plans to press charges and would testify in court.

In a statement to Fox News, a representative for Disney World said police handled the incident as soon as it was brought to their attention.

“Orange County Sheriff’s Office was on site and immediately stepped in, and this is now a law enforcement matter.  Everyone should feel safe at work, and we encourage Cast Members to come forward in any uncomfortable situation.”

Outrage after tourists charged over £100 for just three hot dogs, a sandwich and soft drinks in Italy – The Sun

A GROUP of tourists were left fuming after they were charged over £100 for their lunch of just three hot dogs, a sandwich and soft drinks.

The family of four were dining at at a bar in Rome when they ordered the meals.

The bar, which was on Via dell Conciliazione near St Peter's Square, charged the family €119 (£104) for the hot dogs and a ham and cheese sandwich.

They also ordered four cans of Coca Cola and a bottle of water.

They were even charged €17 (£14) for service.

Dad Leo Recchia, who was stung by the bill, told Italian daily newspaper Il Messaggero: "The night before we had gone to a restaurant behind the Pantheon: we spent the same, but for a complete dinner."

However, the manager of the bar hit back at the claims.

He told the newspaper that they had "other complaints" for similar issues, but that the "prices are on the menu".

He also said that their proximity to the popular tourist area of the Vatican meant "it costs" more than other areas.

The complaint is the latest in a long line of tourists claiming they have been ripped of by expensive Italian cafes.

In May, two tourists were charged £70 for two burgers and three coffees in a similar area, after claiming the restaurant didn't have any prices on the menu.

In September, a couple were charged £381 for two plates of spaghetti and fish which included a £71 service charge.

Greek tourists have also been stung by overpriced meals – with a group paying £72 for eight soft drinks.

Another man was given a receipt for £521 for six pieces of calamari in Mykonos.

Other tourist scams include money exchange scams, with a man in Bali only giving a tourist back half of what he was owed.

Last year, tourists were scammed out of £6.7m by fake booking websites.

This includes fake hotels and fake airline tickets.

Should you vacation somewhere you’ve already been? How to tell if a repeat trip is right

Sometimes the best vacation is a repeat vacation. I ought to know. I’m in Los Angeles again after just a nine-month absence. There’s something that keeps pulling me back here, and it’s not just the weather.

No one knows how many people take repeat vacations. But based on my experience as both a traveler and someone who writes about travel, I’d say everyone does it. There’s comfort in returning to a place you know. And California is the place I return to the most often because it has almost everything.

So what makes you come back again and again? It’s a combination of things, including the ability to make you feel at home, plenty of things to do, and a place that is special to you. I’ll explain.

There’s something about this place

The International Banana Museum in Mecca, California. (Photo: © 2019 Christopher Elliott)

A returnable destination draws you to it. That’s how I feel about Palm Springs, California. Whether I’m exploring Joshua Tree National Park or taking the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway into Mount San Jacinto State Park, or just seeing the wacky International Banana Museum – Palm Springs has an irresistible appeal.

Oh, and there’s the weather. Ridiculously hot during the summer, yes, but during the late fall and winter, while the rest of the country is under a blanket of snow, Palm Springs is perfect.

If I asked my oldest son why he likes Palm Springs, he’d probably tell me it’s Chef Tanya’s Kitchen, the famous vegan restaurant. OK, but that’s just another reason to go. One of many.

How does Palm Springs draw you in? That’s a hard question to answer. For me, I think it’s something about the mountains, the desert, the climate, and the attractions. It makes you feel like no other place in California.

But other places can have the same charm. I have fond memories of walking through my neighborhood in Studio City, picking the ripening grapefruit from the trees in the middle of the winter. That’s a memory that stays with you long after your trip is over. By the way, if the fruit hangs over the property line, it’s fair game.

You feel right at home

Sunsets at Carmel Beach are a thing of beauty. (Photo: Ron and Patty Thomas/Getty Images)

If you want a spot on my list of repeat destinations, make me feel at home. Carmel, the seaside resort in Northern California, does that. It’s small and not that easy to reach, which means it’s unlikely to turn into Disneyland anytime soon. Everyone seems to know everyone in Carmel, so after just a few days, the shopkeepers started to recognize us and greet us warmly.

Carmel is perched on the side of a hill and Carmel Beach at sunset is a thing of incomparable beauty. The setting sun reflects off the ocean waves, turning the shore orange and pink.

You walk through town down to the beach, and then back up to your hotel. All the visitors participate in this ritual evening stroll. The setting sun turns the sand orange and pink and then reflects on the ocean waves.

Carmel is also an easy drive to some of the other marquee Northern California attractions, such as the Monterey Aquarium and the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. That fulfills your seemingly impossible need to be close but also secluded.

We developed a comfortable routine of taking a morning walk down to the beach and buying a loaf of Watsonville Sourdough from Sumano’s Bakery, and we never wanted to leave.

Nearby Monterey also has a “gotta-come-back” appeal. My kids and I had the same morning routine when we stayed at the Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa a few years ago. Walk along Cannery Row, watch the sea otters in the bay, hang out. The place just felt like home.

Repeat vacations offer something special

The Anacapa Island Lighthouse in Channel Islands National Park. So near, yet so far. (Photo: © 2019 Christopher Elliott)

I’ve found myself in Southern California several times in the past few years. Last October, I spent a week in Ventura. This fall, I stayed in West Hollywood. My family and I keep gravitating toward the same places, though.

One of our favorites: Channel Island National Park, just off the coast of Ventura. There you can find a part of forgotten California, including the remnants of a sheep farm, an old lighthouse, and plenty of marine life. It is truly special and well worth the two-hour boat ride.

Southern California offers an abundance of one-of-a-kind attractions. Another favorite is the Getty Museum. Even if you don’t like art, go (it’s free) and enjoy the view of Los Angeles. By the way, if you can plan ahead, check out the Getty Villa near Topanga Beach, which houses even more art exhibits. Reservations are required.

If you want to start an argument in my home, tell everyone you’re going back to California, but you’re not sure where. I just made that mistake. My oldest son, Aren, made a strong argument for Northern California – Carmel, Monterey, or maybe Berkeley? My daughter nixed that idea. She’s more of an L.A. girl, but couldn’t decide between Studio City, Hollywood or the dark horse, San Diego. She has two uncles in San Diego, so was leaning in that direction. My middle child joined the argument, and then it became all about the food.

But did I have to persuade them to come back to California? I did not.

If you’re thinking about a repeat vacation, maybe you should try my family’s litmus test. If the place is special, welcoming and offers something unique, you might enjoy a repeat.

This new sustainable suitcase is made from 100% recycled plastic

In case you haven’t noticed, sustainability is big right now. Why? Look around you. Forests are burning, ice caps are melting, bees are in decline and some world leaders (looking at you, Mr Trump) refuse to acknowledge that climate change is even a “thing”.

As the world changes, the way we travel does too. More and more pressure is being put on the flying industry to change its ways.

Whether it be designing new planes that use less fuel, charging for on-board meals, or simply just educating travellers to be more eco-savvy, environmental warnings are beginning to have an impact.

With consumers becoming more eco-conscious, smaller businesses have tapped into the trend.

One of them is Phoenx, a London start-up which has created a new suitcase that is 100% sustainable.

The shell, which comes in a variety of colours, is made from 100% recycled plastic and the lining has been crafted out of recycled fishing lines, fabric scraps and old unloved carpets that were once destined for landfill.

In a nutshell, the stylish cases transform waste into an ethical and durable new form.

‘Phoenx is not just about the present but is made to accompany you in your future adventures,’ says Francesco Salom, Co-Founder & CEO.

‘When you feel it is time to renew it, you can send it back to us and choose between having it restyled by our creative design team.’

‘It’s a new level of commitment and a rethinking of the duty makers owe consumers,’ Salom continued .

This renewal process is owning to the suitcase’s modular lego-like construction. Everything falls into place like a flat-pack from Ikea, which means the suitcase components can easily be removed, repaired or replaced with the use of a single tool. Goodbye warranty.

Other nifty features to shout about include an easy to adjust divider – so nothing moves whilst you are up in the air – a vacuum-sealed laundry bag and an ultra-thin removable backpack.

Though not currently available to buy, the company is generating buzz on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.

Cheers to sustainable carry on.

Beautiful Italian town of Cammarata with stunning views is offering FREE homes to lure new residents

A BEAUTIFUL Italian town with majestic, sweeping views is offering FREE homes to lure new residents.

Mayor Vincenzo Giambrone says it “hurts” to see gorgeous, old homes being abandoned in his hometown, Cammarata, in Sicily.

He told CNN that he's keen to stop Cammarata from haemorrhaging more residents.

The town is located in the mountains, about 40miles southeast of Palermo and 22miles north of Agrigento.

It's an area praised on TripAdvisor by holidaymakers for offering an "absolutely beautiful view from the heavens… [with] stunning architecture and food."

The mayor told the broadcaster that he has spent the past three years getting owners of the long-abandoned properties to hand the keys over to new residents for free.

Giambrone said: "I can't stand to see this gorgeous, old historical centre empty and turn into a ruin.

"It hurts me."

He said that while owners were "oblivious to the damage they cause when they ditch their homes" a "deep scar" had been ripped into the attractive townscape as a result.

The mayor would like the "ancient dwellings" refurbished.

Giambrone recalled his town being a "lively, vibrant place" but that atmosphere has long gone thanks to the disappearance of residents.

REVIVE TOWN

At present newcomers have their choice of about 12 empty stone properties.

But Giambrone hopes a further 100 long-abandoned homes will also be rescued and brought back to life.

He said that new buyers were welcome to "step in to secure these crumbly walls and revive the historical area".

Before they hit the town with paintbrushes, though, DIYers have been warned there are a few conditions attached.

They'll need to pay a £4,300 deposit – to be returned once the revamp is finished.

Cammarata is opening its doors to young couples with children in particular, who will be treated as a priority for settling there.

CNN reports that couples who do move to the town, and have a baby, will also receive a "bonus" of £865.

Other parts of Italy are also plying to draw new residents, including Sambuca in Sicily, and Zungoli near Naples.

Earlier this year The Sun reported the local government in Mussomeli in southern Sicily selling 100 abandoned properties online with a further 400 homes up for grabs, for just €1 (85p).

IF you haven't used all your annual leave yet, now might be the time to book a last-minute holiday.

And the good news is, there are still plenty of deals for trips from November and right until Christmas.

Some like it hot, some not.

That's why we've rounded up the best deals around for those who fancy some winter sun as well as those looking for a festive destination.

For example, you can head on a romantic city-break to Venice for £99 per person in November or explore Amsterdam in December for the same price.

Fancy something a bit more festive? Why not spend two days in Reykjavik, the world's northernmost capital city, for £159pp including flights and a Northern Lights tour.
And if you want to escape Britain's cold winter, head to Portugal, where holidays are currently available for £174pp for a week-long stay.

Here are our suggestions:

European breaks

  • Two nights in Venice, Italy, with return flights from a London airport of your choice – book here from £99pp
  • Three nights in Krakow, Poland, breakfast included with return flights from London Stansted – book here from £115pp
  • Two nights in Amsterdam, Netherlands, with return flight from London Gatwick – book here from £99p

Fewer crowds and cheaper package holiday prices mean Venice is an ideal city to visit in winter.

With almost nine hours of sunlight every day in December and January, all you have to do is wrap up warm to enjoy one of the world’s most beautiful cities.

Thanks to this deal from Wowcher, you can explore the city's winding streets, take a ride on a gondola or walk along the famous Rialto Bridge for just £99 per person.

Book your two-night stay anytime from December 8 to 12 to take advantage of the deal.

Not convinced? You can also spend two nights in the award-winning XO Hotels Couture in Amsterdam – including flights – for the same price.

The city is super pretty, with beautiful buildings towering over those canals, which you can explore by boat.

Those looking for something new should head to Krakow, where a four-night stay at a three-star hotel – with breakfast included – costs £155 per person this December.

Krakow is also one of the cheapest cities in Europe for a weekend break, if you need any more encouragement.

Its traditional streets are a winter wonderland in the snow, and then there’s the famous Market Square.

Leave London Stansted on December 11 to take advantage of the deal.

Winter sun

  • Seven nights in Albufeira, Portugal, on a self-catering basis with return flights from London Southend –  book here from £71pp
  • Seven nights in Malta with return flights from Cardiff – book here from £197pp
  • Four-night in Orlando, USA, with return flight from London Gatwick – book here from £426pp

From sunny weather to beautiful beaches and tasty food, the Algarve in southern Portugal is the perfect place for a quick fix of winter sun.

Remember that it's not exactly bikini-wearing season from December to February, but the region will have significantly better weather than back at home, with temperatures as high as 16-18C.

Book a one-week holiday in Albufeira in November – for a self-catering apartment and flights – from £71pp with Love Holidays.

Krakow rated best European city for a holiday in Which? survey

Krakow rated the best European city for a short break for the third-year running in Which? survey – while Alicante is voted the worst

  •  Visitors praised the Polish city for its affordability – a beer costs less than £2
  •  Its rich history, traditional markets and cheap hotels earn Krakow the top spot
  •  Seville comes second overall in the Which? survey, with a 90 per cent city score

In an annual Which? survey Britons have rated the Polish city of Krakow the best in Europe for a short break for the third consecutive year.

Alicante has come bottom of the ranking of 43 countries.

The consumer champion asked thousands of holidaymakers to rate recent trips to European cities across a range of categories including quality of the cultural attractions, accommodation, shopping, food, and value for money.

Krakow’s traditional Christmas markets are a popular attraction

Krakow is considered the prettiest of Poland’s main cities and known for its well-preserved medieval core, which escaped the worst of the WWII bombings

A lovely way to explore Krakow’s main sights, such as the 13th-century Wawel castle (pictured), is to cruise the Vistula River by boat

Krakow comes top of the list with a city score of 93 per cent and is the only city in the survey of 4,704 Which? members to receive five stars for value for money.

The Polish city offers a great deal even for the most price-sensitive travellers – with a good meal for under £7 and a beer for less than £2. The average hotel rate is less than half offered to visitors in Amsterdam or Paris.

Krakow also receives an impressive five-star rating for food, putting it ahead of lauded culinary destinations such as Verona, Lisbon and Madrid. One traveller said: ‘Inexpensive restaurants are plentiful so book only accommodation and eat out at your leisure.’

Visitors to Krakow were also impressed with the city’s rich history, and its score for cultural experiences also receives a full five stars.

The salt mine in Wieliczka, which is within the Krakow metropolitan region, is rated one of the top attractions by visitors to the Polish city

Respondents recommended the traditional markets, as well as the salt mines harbouring an underground cathedral carved out of salt – but warned that this trip should be booked in advance to avoid disappointment.

Seville comes second overall in the Which? survey, with a 90 per cent city score.

Famous for Flamenco dancing and a litany of major landmarks, Seville earns the coveted five stars for its tourist attractions, food and drink and quality of accommodation.

Seville, famous for its colourful flamenco dancing, comes second in the European cities survey by Which?

Spain proved it had a lot to offer visitors with Valencia coming third, with 89 per cent.

While Valencia doesn’t get the full five stars in any category it does get four stars almost across the board. Those surveyed raved about the aquarium and the City of Art and Sciences.

Cited by its tourism board as the city of freedom, Berlin comes fourth with 88 per cent, receiving five stars for accommodation, attractions and ease of getting around. One person also told Which? that ‘Berlin is a feast for museum-goers’.

The Dutch capital, Amsterdam, also proved well-regarded, coming joint fifth with Budapest (86 per cent). The city is famous for flower-adorned canals and rich art history but with options like trams, electric boats and bicycles, it’s the ease of getting around that earns the city’s highest star rating.

Bisected by the River Danube, Hungary’s capital, Budapest is one of the cheapest destinations to stay in, with an average hotel price of £68 a night, earning it four stars for accommodation. One traveller advised buying a three-day travel pass to visit the city, while for visitors over 65 tickets are free.

Rome only manages a mid-table finish, with a city score of 81 per cent. The Italian capital earns a full five-star rating for its famous attractions including the Sistine Chapel, Trevi Fountain and the Colosseum but overcrowding caused by tourists swarming to these sites affected its rating.

Paris finds itself just below Rome with a score of 80 per cent. It faces a similar problem to the Italian capital, with crowds at the city’s landmarks putting some visitors off.

Nevertheless, the French capital does secure a four-star rating for cultural attractions such as the Eiffel Tower, Sacré-Cœur and the Louvre. But visitors were unimpressed by its choice of accommodation and value for money.

Alicante receives the lowest score in the Which? survey, although its beach and Old Town are still popular

Alicante, the nearest city to British holiday mecca Benidorm, is a newcomer, but it hasn’t fared well. Its score of 72 per cent is the lowest in the table.

Despite only receiving two stars for its cultural sites, respondents spoke fondly of the Santa Barbara castle and the city’s views of both the sea and the Old Town.

Rory Boland, the travel editor at Which?, said: ‘With a palace on every corner, and a plate of pierogi and a pint of Pilsner costing under £10, it’s no wonder Krakow continues to top our survey.

‘To those holidaymakers still stuck on Amsterdam, Paris and other classic European destinations, try Poland for your next trip to find food, hotels and sightseeing that’s just as good but at half the price.’

TSA agents discover gun-shaped toilet paper holder during inspection process

This photo provided by Transportation Security Administration shows a gun-shaped toilet paper holder that was confiscated at checkpoint at Newark Liberty International Airport on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2019 in Newark, N.J. (Photo: AP)

NEWARK, N.J. – Transportation Security Administration agents at New Jersey’s Newark Liberty Airport uncovered a more decorative than deadly item when they checked a passenger’s carry-on.

Agents on Tuesday thought there was a gun in the bag when they put it through the X-ray machine.

However, a closer inspection revealed a gun-shaped toilet paper holder. The realistic replica gun was designed to spin paper instead of bullets.

Travelers are not permitted to bring real or replica firearms through security checkpoints.

TSA says it gave the man the option to place it in a checked bag, hand it off to a companion or surrender it. He decided to give it to TSA.

Top things to see and do in Prague from St Vitus Cathedral to the Old Town

If you're looking for a city break that's packed with history, culture and breathtaking architecture then Prague needs to be on your radar.

The capital of the Czech Republic boasts a plethora of spectacular sights from the impressive Prague Castle to St Vitus Cathedral packed with treasures, as well as plenty more baroque buildings to be found nestled throughout its picturesque streets.

The Charles Bridge makes for a scenic stroll with heaps of picture-perfect views of the skyline, while the historic centre – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – is a must visit with charming boutiques and restaurants waiting to be discovered.

On a budget? It's also hailed as one of the cheapest city breaks in Europe for 2019.

There's so much to see and do so to give you a helping hand, we've picked out the top 10 best things to see and do in Prague.

Check out our guide below…

1. Prague Castle

One of the city's most famous monuments, Prague Castle is a must whether you're fascinated by history or looking for somewhere to while away a few hours.

The caste complex features everything from Romanesque-style buildings from the 10th century to Gothic modifications of the 14th century. The result? A castle that's the stuff of fairytales.

2. St Vitus Cathedral

The largest cathedral in Prague, St Vitus has been the setting for plenty of historic moments including the coronations of Czech kings and queens.

It's also where several patron saints, archbishops and noblemen are buried.

But the history isn't the only draw here. The cathedral boasts some seriously spectacular architecture with its intricate decor, awe-inspiring stained glass windows and grandiose feel.

3. Charles Bridge

Crossing the Vlatava river, Charles Bridge can be a great spot for a leisurely stroll that offers up unrivalled views of the city.

The bridge links Prague Castle to the Old Town so it's ideal if you're looking to get plenty of sightseeing done on foot.

Head here at sunset for a view with an extra touch of magic.

4. Old Town Square

Prague's Historic Centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site thanks to the wide array of Baroque and Gothic buildings to be found here.

The historic Old Town Square has plenty of beautiful landmarks including the St Nicholas Church, the Old Town Hall, memorials and the Astronomical Clock.

5. Astronomical Clock

The third oldest astronomical clock in the world, this medieval tower clock is pretty impressive.

Try and time it (no pun intended) to be there when the clock strikes the hour, so you can see the procession of the Twelve Apostles (this occurs on the hour from 9am through to 11pm).

It's worth noting that this is a popular attraction in Prague so during peak season it can get quite busy.

6. Municipal House

On the outside, Municipal House is a beautiful Art Nouveau building with intricate architecture and bursts of colour. Inside, it's equally as dazzling, playing home to Smetana Hall, an opulent concert hall.

The building has some restaurants and cafés if you're looking for somewhere a bit different to have a bite to eat.

7. Josefov

Josefov is the former Jewish Ghetto in Prague, located between the Old Town Square and the Vltava River.

The quarter is home to six Synagogues as well as plenty of monuments.

Nowadays you need a ticket to enter the Jewish Quarter, and we recommend joining a guided tour so you don't miss the highlights while also getting to learn all about Prague's fascinating history.

8. Golden Lane

A street within the Prague Castle complex, Golden Lane was originally built in the 16th century to house the castle guards, but it takes its name from the goldsmiths who resided here in the 17th century.

The street is also nicknamed as the Street of Alchemists with myths that the king's alchemists also lived here for a brief period of time.

9. The Lennon Wall

Art and music fans won't want to miss out this eye-catching wall which, since the 1980s, has been covered with John Lennon-inspired graffiti from Beatles song lyrics to plenty of tributes to the iconic singer as well as more global causes.

10. National Gallery

If the weather lets you down or you just love a museum trip, then the National Gallery in Prague could be ideal.

There are heaps of fascinating exhibitions, thousands of beautiful works of art, and the building itself boasts some pretty ornate architecture.

Hogan, whose real name is Terry Bollea, posted a Facebook Live video stream on Tuesday recounting the incident.

“We are here in Iceland and there’s our plane that we just had a really hard landing on,” Hogan says, panning to the plane. “Blew out the tires and brakes have melted, and that thing’s not going anywhere.”

He added a buddy with the same type of plane had stepped in to transport him to his final destination, Saudi Arabia, for this year’s WWE Crown Jewel event. Hogan did not clarify whether the stop in Iceland was a planned part of his journey.

The video has nearly 70 shares and more than 52,000 views.

Hogan said he would keep his followers updated and let them know when he arrived at his destination (he has since arrived). Fans have flooded the comments wishing Hogan well.

Mums love this inflatable travel cot for kids with ‘safety bumpers’ to stop them falling out – The Sun

AN INFLATABLE travel mattress with 'safety bumpers' for kids has won the praise of thousands of parents online.

Many have claimed it makes holidays and travelling "easier" with their children loving their "travel bed".

The Hiccapop Inflatable Toddler Travel bed features a hollow blow up bed with raised sides.

The mattress, which can be removed, is placed inside the bed and can hold up to 310lbs (140kg) in wegith.

It measures 48 inches (4ft) long, which is more than the average height of a two-year-old child and fits standard cot sheets.

The bed is designed for kids between the ages of 18 months and 24 months, and can be inflated in 30 seconds.

Hiccapop claim: "Kids cannot sleep in adult beds before they are 24 months old, yet most outgrow a crib at 18 months."

However, parents have claimed the $60 (£46) bed is perfect for all ages, and praised the "game-changer".

It has nearly 1,500 five star reviews on Amazon.

One mum wrote: "The product is wonderful! My daughter loves sleeping on her 'vacation bed'."

A family, who took it to Disneyland, said their it stopped their four-year-old son rolling out of bed.

We made it! I’m so happy we decided to get E his own toddler air mattress. I don’t think I would survive sharing a bed with a toddler for a week.#hiccapop

14 sumptuously cosy hotels that will make you want to snuggle up

These snuggly UK winter staycations are just what you need now the cosiest season is upon us.

Hurrah – autumn is here and with it comes the excuse to get deliciously cosy.

But although the idea of holing up indoors is very tempting now that the evenings are getting darker, that doesn’t mean we have to stay at home and miss out on all the fun. In fact, it feels like the perfect time to plan a weekend away and try the delights of some of the UK’s cosiest hotels.

After all, the UK is home to some fabulous vineyards, acclaimed natural beauty and pretty country walk trails, all of which would make for ideal spots to admire the leaves on the trees turning to red and gold. So whether you’re planning on getting out of the city and exploring a new corner of the UK or fancy enjoying the delights of cosmopolitan stay, make sure you book one of these gorgeous hotels and country houses to make a weekend of it.

From 13th century country houses to luxury inner city suites, we have a feeling you’ll like the list we’ve picked out below. Especially those with a spa, which you’ll particularly enjoy if the cold winds have left you feeling like you’ve lost your glow.

Valuing open fireplaces, four poster beds and beautiful decor, check out our recommendations for places to have a cosy staycation until the summer sun really shows itself. You’re welcome!

Rosewood London, London

As you saunter passed the ornate gates and through the grandiose courtyard of the Rosewood London, there’s a strong chance you’ll have already started to feel comforted by the hotel’s innate cosiness. This could be because of the pop-up chalet outside, or the warming glints of gold from the glowing lamps from inside.

On the ground floor you’ll find the beautiful Mirror Room, where an ever-changing afternoon tea is served (it has previously taken inspiration from artists and sculptors – it’s pretty special) and the Scarfes Bar, with a crackling open fire and an abundance of cosy, comfy armchairs to collapse into.

But it’s upstairs, in the luxury rooms, where the real magic (and cosying up opportunities) happen. And if you’ve never stayed the night before, now is a brilliant time to change that thanks to the hotel’s newest package, which is offering guests the chance to battle against each other for a free upgrade.

The Rosewood Room Hunt will be launching on 23 November, and in partnership with Clarendon Games, will see 10 pairs of guests compete to solve riddles and puzzles to get bumped up to a signature suite with a personal butler, chef and mixologist, plus an abundance of customised in-room experiences. How do you fancy your chances?

Blakes, London

Stepping inside Blakes London is like entering a different universe. Although there’s a uniting theme of decadence, every room flaunts an entirely unique theme, with some of the best decor styling we’ve seen. As the building has been forged from a collection of townhouses (together creating the 45 room boutique hotel and restaurant), original Victorian features are present throughout, from glossy, dark wood floors to impossibly high ceilings (which allow for Princess and the Pea-worthy beds).

Something we particularly love about Blakes London is the richness of its design. For example, taking a bath in the Romantic Four Poster suite means retreating to a stylish, onyx-black bathroom. While holing up in the Library suite couldn’t be more romantic for book lovers, as thick, leather-bound tomes line the walls.

These details combined with five star service and a delicious, heady scent that floats throughout the hotel, makes Blakes London one of the cosiest  – and most gorgeous – places to snuggle up in London.

The Grafton Arms, London

There’s nothing quite as cosy as a pub, is there? So when a pub has 11 boutique rooms, decorated with details like tartan throws and ambient lighting, as well as a wood-paneled restaurant we know they’ve well and truly hit the cosy scale.

The Grafton Arms is a lovely, little pub in the heart of Fitzvoria, which acts like a local but in the heart of the city. Even if you don’t fancy a sleepover, you should check out the pan-Asian cuisine and secret roof terrace, perfect for an after work drink.

If you do want to make a night of it, though, the hotel part of this venue strikes a nice balance between well-finished and low-key, making you feel at home while enjoying a night away. Most of the rooms stick to muted tones with pretty touches like feature walls, statement head boards and bespoke mirrors. We also love the breakfast hampers, a thoughtful add on, which arrives in a picnic basket and is filled with pastries and fresh juices.

The Zetter Townhouse, London

Frock-wearing taxidermy, portraits that hang askew (as if on a ship) and lift doors painted with golden oriental blooms – you can’t say the The Zetter Townhouse doesn’t have character. Like a kaleidoscope of interiors inspiration, this Clerkenwell gem is a like treasure trove themed in scarlet hues, a cosy colour scheme that continues from the downstairs restaurant to the bedrooms up above.

Even if you weren’t staying the night, The Zetter Townhouse is the perfect place to hole up for a bite to eat (try the pork bao buns, we beg you) or a cocktail from their creative list. It’s clear every tiny detail has been chosen with care. From the antique furniture to the velvet cushions, the closeness created by the organised clutter and jumble of fabrics, feels delightfully atmospheric. And when you learn the concept is based on “the private home of an eccentric ancestor we like to call Aunt Wilhelmina,” it all makes sense.

Being a boutique hotel, the rooms are in short supply with only 13 in total, which makes bagging one all the more delicious. Pick from a Deluxe (options include four poster beds and golden bathrooms), a homey Club (think burnt orange velvet curtains and Union Jack bed canopy), luxurious suite (your own living space, fancy furniture and option to have adjoining rooms) or grandiose apartment (hello free standing bath, sash windows and courtyard views). Each room is completely unique and has been designed with its own story, whether that be on safari or old Britannia.

Kimpton Fitzroy, London

If you’ve ever happened past the grassy patch we know as Russel Square, there’s no way you won’t have noticed the Kimpton Fitzroy hotel. Imposing in stature and ornately decorated with 19th-century architecture, it runs adjacent to nearly half of the park with multiple entrances which bid guests access to the three restaurants, bar and coffee shop inside.

Although the building is gorgeous from the outside, with golden-brown brick work and intricate carvings, even we were surprised at just how beautiful the Kimpton Fitzroy is on the inside. The floors glow like moonlight thanks to a delicate arrangement of metallic tiles, and heavy curtains line the corridors creating a snug, but sophisticated feel. Downstairs watch out for the celestial star sign floor mosaic (very on-trend) and make sure you go for dinner in the all-pink seafood restaurant Neptune, following this with a cocktail in Fitz’s Bar. Also seductively dark, Fitz’s bar is decked out with velvet scallop-edged seating and a giant disco ball, which we love. Try the bar’s twist on a Negroni, which includes an almost-too-big-for-the-glass sized ice cube infused with strawberry, turning your drink sweeter and fruitier as it dissolves.

Although the ground floor is classically cosy, the bedrooms take on a more contemporary style, but with comfy touches like four poster bed curtains and free standing baths. There are 334 rooms to choose from, from a chic single to the king suite which looks out over the park. All of the rooms reflect the hotel’s five star status, offering free wifi, coffee and 2 hour room service, as well on-loan bikes.

If you’re looking to really treat yourself, though, you should take a look at the junior and corner suites which really are something special. The corner suite, for example, has a free standing bath positioned on a plinth looking out to the rooftops of central London. Dreamy.

Devonshire Club, London

Inner-city cosiness can be a tricky thing to achieve. But the Devonshire Club, in its peaceful spot tucked away in Devonshire Square just seconds from Liverpool Street (not that you’d know it) has efficiently nailed sophisticated festiveness. Which yes, does exist.

The club’s lounge and Champagne bar’s uses a warm colour palette of chocolaty browns, rich reds and gold accents, making it feel like one of the chicest places to feel cosy in the city.

Of course while you’re there you’ll be spending at least some time in your room (more on that later), but you also must pay a visit to the outside terrace. Cuddly sofas are ladened with blankets and furry throws, making it the perfect place to sip on a Hot Toddy.

As far as the rooms go, minimalist luxury is the order of the day here. Vast beds with impossibly soft bed sheets, simple yet beautiful creamy bathrooms (with an impressive free standing bath if you’re lucky) and well-designed furniture all come together to present a look that feels effortless and yet considered. If relaxing away from the stress of everyday life is your aim, this is a wonderful way to do it.

Crossbasket Castle, Glasgow

If you’re looking for somewhere impressively cosy, does it really get better than an actual castle? We think not. So, let us introduce you to Crossbasket Castle in Blantyre, a 17th century castle with period features like gold leaf-detailed ceilings and roaring fires that feel historic.

Despite being a solid structure, the castle only has nine rooms which is why each one has been given it’s own unique theme with antique furnishings and decor that reflects the history of the building. Personally we can’t get over the bridal suite, which is in a fairytale-like four storey turret room.

During your stay you can feast in the Albert & Michel Roux Jr Restaurant which is overseen by the well-known French chef Albert Roux and promises to offer “an experience of a bygone era.” Stand-out dishes on the menu include: loin of Highland venison and wild Scottish fillet of halibut.

The London EDITION, London

The heart of Oxford Street isn’t traditionally considered the cosiest of places. But just a stone’s throw from the capital’s most chaotic street is a golden-hued, richly decorated oasis.

Even if you don’t stay at The London EDITION Hotel, just stepping through the door into the impressive lobby and Berner’s Tavern restaurant will have you feeling warmed. With walls decorated in imposing oil paintings and an open fire, you might be in a swanky London hotel but if you closed your eyes for a moment, you might mistake your surroundings for a (very stylish) castle. It also helps that in the air hangs the most darkly delicious scent of oud, peppered with rose, adding to the atmosphere.

Upstairs the rooms of the hotel take on a chic ski lodge feel, with wood-panelled walls and huge, chocolate-coloured fur throws. Choose from a selection of room and suite sizes to suit your tastes and budget – starting with the cosy guest room and ending with the penthouse suite which offers a walk-in wardrobe, pantry and three large outdoor terraces.

Burley Manor, New Forest

If you’re a city-dweller hoping to leave behind work emails and hectic commutes to soak up the spirit of the most wholesome holiday, Burley Manor is the perfect home away from home. Nestled in the New Forest, even the drive through the tiny village of Burley feels like forewarning for the full-scale adorableness of the hotel and spa.

The Grade II listed building was built in 1852 (although there’s history surrounding the grounds and old manor building dating back to the 13th century) and the owners of the restaurant and rooms have worked hard to capture its history by keeping original features – like a charming fireplace in the lobby and historical documents on the walls. All of the rooms hold a truly boutique-like feel with touches like free standing baths, rich colour palettes and gorgeous homely touches like freshly made cookies and antique furniture.

Everything about the experience at Burley Manor feels warm and hearty, and the restaurant is no different. Not only does it boast views across Burley Park where you’ll see many a deer, but the chefs serve up some absolutely delicious fare, too. We recommend opting for a sharing dish and giving the Moroccan spiced lamb a try, for something that will truly warm your cockles.

And of course, no relaxing weekend away would be complete without a little ‘me time’ so make sure to book yourself into the spa for a facial or massage to truly forget all of those work-related stresses.

Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, Oxford

It would be natural to expect big things of the Michelin-starred restaurant and luxury hotel of Raymond Blanc, a chef who’s known for rubbing shoulders with celebrities. But we’re not sure you’re prepared for just how heavenly his Oxfordshire manor actually is.

Not only is the main building a picture of magnificence, but the surrounding gardens, orchards and herb gardens are simply magical. Tucked just behind the manor, guests can explore pumpkin patches, a beautiful herb-filled greenhouse, colourful vegetable gardens as well as a Japanese garden.

Whether you stay in a room in the hotel, or opt for one of the stand-alone dwellings dotted around the outskirts of the gardens, the attention to detail is outstanding. From the personal inspirations behind every suite (Blanc decorated L’Orangerie for example, in the style of his grandparents house when he was a boy) and attentive service, to personal touches like a shoe shining service, a selection of music gently playing in your room on arrival, a wake-up call with juice and coffee – and even calming pillow spray left on your bed after turn down service.

If you choose to stay at Le Manoir it’s presumed you will, of course, sample the delights of Blanc’s restaurant, too. From the pre-dinner lounge, where you’re invited to enjoy a drink while you browse the menu, to the spacious restaurant where the (mainly French) staff will talk you through every course, it’s a level of service that goes above and beyond. We recommend trying the taster menu so you can sample a bit of everything, and the smoked haddock soup and seared scallop.

The Bloomsbury, London

The Bloomsbury is not just a gorgeous hotel to stay at, but a restaurant-come-bar-come-terrace that deserves your attention all year round.

Themed in deep pink, with glamorous Art Deco touches, The Coral Room is the place to taste oysters, sample the menu’s delicious array of champagne and pick out a cocktail – served up expertly by the hotel’s dedicated bartenders. While the Dalloway Terrace’s seasonally changing flower wall makes an apt background for a special get together.

Upstairs, every inch of the boutique-style bedrooms have been designed to feel both luxurious and cosy. From the Italian marble bathrooms flaunting stand alone baths and walk-in showers to velvet furniture, wooden parquet flooring and elaborate wallpaper, once you stay for one night we guarantee you’ll never want to leave. We recommend choosing the Luxury Studio Suite for your stay for touches like the deep crimson leather headboard and deliciously thick floor skimming curtains.

Londoners will adore staying here as the pure luxury of the hotel and warmth of the staff will make you feel like you’re on holiday, but this is also the perfect spot for those visiting from out of town because of its central location.

Down Hall Hotel & Spa, Hertfordshire

Down Hall Hotel & Spa makes an exceptional first impression. Undeniably striking, the historic building and 110 acres of woodland and parkland ooze a sense of grandeur.

Once inside, the mansion’s 14th century origins become wonderfully clear. Features like ornate ceilings, dazzling chandeliers and marble finished fireplaces come coloured in gold and red, a sense that is carried into the boutique bedrooms upstairs. Think: features like extravagant four poster beds, a copper free standing roll top bath, separate dressing areas and balcony suites looking out over the grounds.

Wrap up in layers and take a walk around the landscaped gardens, indulging in the warmth of the hotel once you’ve worked up an appetite, which can be quenched with Down Hall’s famous afternoon tea or the hearty Sunday lunch.

If there’s one thing you can’t miss while staying at Down Hall, though, it’s visiting the Eden Spa – it’s a real showstopper. The circular wet spa is designed to be the optimum place for relaxing, offering a hydrotherapy pool which is maintained at 36 degrees to soothe aches and pains, while the steam room helps detoxify the whole body by opening up pores. There’s also a selection of treatment rooms to consider, where you can enjoy luxury facials and body treatments by natural skincare brand ESPA.

Duchray Castle, Aberfoyle

Although we love being pampered, there’s also a lot to be said for getting away from it all by opting for a self-catered option to truly get some peace and quiet.

Duchray Castle has been standing since the 14th century, with a fascinating 500 years of history evident in its gorgeous old features. After recently being renovated it now also has all the modern day luxuries to go along with its ancient charms, including sleigh beds, heaps of space, free-standing baths and gorgeous furniture.

The castle’s surroundings are pretty unique, too. Venture out of the castle grounds and there’s plenty of sights to see, like the clear waters of Loch Lomond and the best star gazing spots, thanks to the lack of light pollution in such a remote area.

Lime Treehouse, Worcestershire

Sitting on the edge of the charming village of Little Comberton, this adorable treehouse is more than a little cosy. From the statement ceiling beams to the wooden bed and mini log burner, it’s getting back to nature at its chicest.

It might be chilly outside, but one way of warming yourself up during your stay would be to take a dip in the private hot tub, which you’ll find just outside the front door of the cabin. Jump in as the sun starts to go down and you can watch a gorgeous sunset over Bredon Hill – with a glass of wine in hand.

Surrounded by such beautiful countryside, it would be a shame not to do at least a little bit of exploring, but the good news is that there’s plenty of cosy pubs nearby so you won’t have to walk too far before your cockles are warmed.

The Grove, Hertfordshire

If you’re a believer in bigger equaling better, let us introduce you to The Grove. From the moment you begin to wind your way up the impossibly long drive that cuts through the 300 acres of rolling Hertfordshire countryside, the sheer size of this drop-dead-gorgeous country house will astound you.

The house was originally founded in the 15th century and has racked up its fair share of stories since then. From frequent visits by Captain Cook and Queen Victoria, The Grove was known by socialites of the 19th century as a heady escape for lavish parties. Although history is a huge part of the hotel, its sights are very much set on the future. The team behind it have opted for modern furnishings and decor (keeping original features in place) and maximised on a tranquil, state-of-the-art spa. Treat yourself to a luxury package and try out the heat experience rooms for some well deserved down time. Oh, and not forgetting to reward yourself with one of the spa’s signature treatments – the Mindful Touch Facial. This innovative new treatment includes a virtual reality session, which helps ground your mind and practice mindfulness before the facial begins to ensure you get the absolute most out of it.

Both rooms and suites are available to book. Taking advantage of the fabulous location, all of the suites have plenty of huge windows so that they benefit from loads of natural light and views of the grounds. We particularly like the positioning of the presidential suite’s bed, which is cocooned by bay windows meaning instead of watching TV, you’ll be watching the turn of twilight to send you to sleep. We can’t think of much better viewing, can you?

Inside the world’s creepiest places with restless spirits and gruesome pasts

Halloween is fast approaching, but you don't need to stick to the spooky season if you're looking to give yourself a scare.

The world has heaps of creepy places that can make for a spine-chilling visit; we're talking everything from an island filled with mutilated dolls (yes, they're believed to be possessed) to haunted castles and unsettling catacombs.

In fact, the team at My Baggage is on hand to provide some seriously spooky inspiration as its experts have searched out some of the world's spookiest places that need to be on your list if you're looking to go in search of ghosts and paranormal activity.

We take a look at their picks of the world's top 10 creepiest places and what makes them so terrifying.

Check out the full list below, if you dare…

Don't want to travel too far? Then you may also want to check out our guide to the spookiest places in Britain .

1. Catacombs of Paris, France

Located just 20 metres underground, this ossuary contains the remains of several million Parisians.

The site was created in the late 18th century when Paris faced public health issues linked to the cemeteries, so authorities chose to transfer the bodies to a new underground site, including the Saints-Innocents cemetery.

Nowadays visitors can wander through the vast network of tunnels and learn all about the site's history, while taking in the displays of bones.

It's worth booking ahead if you do want to go exploring – wait times if you turn up on the day can be as long as three hours.

2. Conn Barracks, Germany

This site formerly served as a Nazi hospital and asylum, and there have been reported sightings of ghosts in the room above the former drainage room where bodies were stored before being embalmed.

Conn Barracks has also been used as the living quarters for US army personnel – it's been claimed that some soldiers reported seeing the ghost of a blood-covered nurse watching those who fell asleep.

3. St. Augustine Lighthouse, Florida, USA

The St Augustine Lighthouse welcomes thousands of visitors every year, but it's proved popular with ghost hunters claiming the surrounding buildings are home to paranormal activity.

Some reported ghostly sightings include a lighthouse keeper fell to his death while painting the tower, as well as three young girls who drowned in the ocean.

4. Edinburgh Castle, Scotland

One of Edinburgh's most popular attractions, Edinburgh Castle is steeped in history so it's no surprise that some visitors have reported spooky goings-on.

We're talking sightings of everything from historic war prisoners to a dog wandering around the castle's dog cemetery.

Check out our Edinburgh city guide for more thrilling things to see and do while you're in the city.

5. Poveglia Island, Venice, Italy

Less than half a mile from the canals of Venice, Poveglia Island once served as a quarantine zone for bubonic plague victims, and was also the site of an early 20th century asylum which was rumoured to carry out horrific medical experiments.

Locals claim to this day that they can hear echoing chimes from the island – despite the bell having been removed years ago.

It's illegal to visit Poveglia, but you can see it from the beaches of nearby Lido.

6. Isla de la Munecas (Island of the Dolls), Mexico

Dubbed the Island of Nightmares, this creepy Mexican spot is steeped in spooky myths and legends surrounding the mutilated dolls that fill the island.

They're nestled everywhere amidst the buildings, the trees and canals – it looks like something out of a horror film.

Oh and yes – the dolls are believed to be possessed. Legend has it that the restless spirit of a drowned child lives on through these terrifying toys.

7. Alcatraz, San Francisco, USA

Alcatraz has been home to infamous criminals like Al Capone, but it's also said to have some ghoulish visitors roaming the halls.

Leon ‘Whitey’ Thompson, a former inmate who later conducted tours of the prison, was waiting for a tour group in the 1980s when he claimed he saw a large, looming figure at the end of 'Michigan Avenue', and swore it was the ghost of an inmate he had been friendly with called Johnny Haus.

Other visitors have heard crying and screams, and recently the figure of a woman was snapped through a cell window by holidaymakers in San Francisco.

8. Leap Castle, Ireland

Leap Castle saw plenty of gruesome deaths between the 13th and 15th century having been the site of many a power struggle.

For example, the castle's 'Bloody Chapel' is said to be haunted by a priest who was stabbed with a sword during mass.

In the 1900s, workmen discovered a secret dungeon in the chapel filled with human skeletons. The dungeon was designed so that prisoners would fall through a trap door only to be killed by the wooden spikes awaiting below.

9. Aokigahara Forest, Japan

Aokigahara is the world’s second most popular suicide location (the first being the Golden Gate Bridge with over 500 reported suicides since the 1950s.

Some blame this trend on the forest’s association with demons in Japanese mythology, whilst others blame the rich deposits of magnetic iron in the soil rendering all compasses completely useless – and meaning that people can easily get lost.

That's why if you are planning to visit, it's best to go with a guided tour.

As such, many hikers will mark their path with tape or string to make it easier to find their way back out again.

10. Borgvattnet Haunted Vicarage, Sweden

Originally built in 1876, strange occurrences have been recorded in this parsonage since the 1960s.

The building now serves as a bed and breakfast in a rural area with snowmobiling and fishing, and guests have claimed to hear footsteps, music, and the sound of three crying ladies coming from the inn.

Fascinating vintage images tell the story of The Beverly Hills Hotel

From a field of beans to one of the swankiest destinations on earth: Fascinating vintage images tell the story of The Beverly Hills Hotel

  • One image shows the farmland that would eventually give way to one of the world’s most glamorous hotels
  • They feature in the book The Beverly Hills Hotel and Bungalows – The First 100 Years, which charts its history
  • Other fascinating pictures include Hollywood stars at the hotel such as Marilyn Monroe and Marlene Deitrich

The story of The Beverly Hills Hotel is almost like a fairy-tale, for where this hotel of legend now stands, there used to be a field of beans.

And a vintage photograph taken in 1900 captured the farmland that would eventually give way to one of the world’s most glamorous hotels. Lodgings that would cater to the whims of planet earth’s most famous stars of the silver screen.

The picture features in the mesmerising tome The Beverly Hills Hotel and Bungalows – The First 100 Years, the second edition of which is out now.

The land in 1900 before the Beverly Hills Hotel was built. It was used for growing lima beans. At that time the city of Beverly Hills did not even exist

The Beverly Hills Hotel and Bungalows was built in 1912 for $500,000 ($13million in today’s money). It was billed as a destination ‘halfway between Los Angeles and the sea’

To mark the opening of the Beverly Hills Hotel and Bungalows, a formal dinner, pictured, was held on May 13, 1912

Two years after the hotel was built, Beverly Hills was incorporated as a city, with buildings springing up around the hotel

The hotel originally had a country club-style theme and offered lessons in horse riding, golf and tennis

Silent-movie stars Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton shot movies at the hotel. This image shows another film star, Carlyle Blackwell, outside the hotel in 1914

Other fascinating pictures in the book include the hotel’s formal opening dinner in May 1912, actors filming the silent movie, A Sailor-Made Man in 1921, Hollywood movie stars including Marilyn Monroe, Marlene Dietrich and Rita Hayworth relaxing at the property during the 1940s and 1950s – and a very glamorous shot of guests arriving at the hotel’s iconic entrance.

The book is by Robert S. Anderson, the great-grandson of Margaret J. Anderson, who built the iconic property on Sunset Boulevard in 1912, with architect Elmer Grey, for $500,000 ($13million in today’s money).

At that time, the city of Beverly Hills did not exist and the hotel was built in open fields and billed as a destination ‘halfway between Los Angeles and the sea’.

Two years after the hotel opened, Beverly Hills was incorporated as a city and by the 1920s it was one of the smartest addresses in the world.

The hotel became known for making its famous guests feel at home, and indulging their desire for privacy. Among the first well-known guests were silent film-era stars such as Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton, who shot movies at the hotel.

By the 1940s, the hotel switched hands. The new owner was Hernando Courtright, the vice president of Bank of America.

He renamed El Jardin Restaurant the Polo Lounge in honour of a celebrity band of polo players who toasted victories at the restaurant after matches in the bean fields.

Towards the end of the decade, the hotel had its first major facelift, and in 1947 it opened the Crystal Room and the Lanai Restaurant (later renamed The Coterie).

The hotel is known for its pink exterior, and this hue first appeared in 1948 to complement LA’s famous sunsets and the country club style of that time.

That year also saw the addition of the Crescent Wing, named after the hotel’s location on Crescent Drive. The hotel’s name is written in huge letters on one of its outer walls – and this section is now one of the most photographed.

In the early 1950s, Detroit real-estate magnate Ben Silberstein purchased the hotel for $5.5 million and its popularity with royalty and celebrities continued to escalate.

New guests included the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon, King Albert of Belgium, the Crown Prince of Monaco, John Wayne and Henry Fonda.

Another regular, the androgynously elegant Marlene Dietrich, convinced the hotel’s Polo Lounge restaurant to change its ‘no slacks for women’ dress code in the 1940s.

In 1956, the hotel’s pool and cabana club were backdrops for Gregory Peck and Lauren Bacall in Designing Women, while Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and the rest of the Rat Pack engaged in prodigious drinking bouts in the Polo Lounge.

Liz Taylor honeymooned in the hotel’s lavish bungalows with six of her husbands, including Richard Burton. Bungalow Five was one of their favourite hangouts.

Reclusive billionaire Howard Hughes not only lived in the bungalows on and off for 30 years but, starting in 1942, he parked his Cadillac in front of the hotel for so long that plants started growing out of it.

He also had hotel staff leave late-night meals, including roast beef sandwiches, in a nearby tree.

Marilyn Monroe stayed in bungalows 20 and 21 in 1960 while reportedly having an affair with her Let’s Make Love co-star Yves Montand.

John Lennon and Yoko Ono stayed in bed for a week in another bungalow in the 1970s.

The Beverly Hills Hotel went through several ownership changes in the 1980s.

The Boeskys gained control in 1986 for $100 million, and later that year, the hotel was sold for $136 million to Denver oilman Marvin Davis.

In 1987, Davis sold the hotel to its present owner, the Dorchester Collection, which is run by the Sultan of Brunei.

This link recently became controversial when Brunei rolled out its interpretation of Islamic laws, or sharia, punishing sodomy, adultery and rape with death, including by stoning.

Actor George Clooney led a global backlash and the Southeast Asian country extended a moratorium on the death penalty to the legislation.

On December 30, 1992, the hotel closed for a complete restoration, with the project lasting two and a half years.

The hotel reopened on June 3, 1995, with upgrades and custom-designed furniture and fittings.

And in 2016, the hotel began a restoration of its historic bungalows, with work conducted on all 23 bungalows in phases throughout 2018.

This month, the hotel is hosting an all-star photography exhibition on its famous red carpet, where 10 never-before-seen archival images will be unveiled.

The incredible photos include a Polo Lounge lunch attended by then hotel manager Hernando Courtright, baseball star Joe DiMaggio, and blues singer Billy Daniels in 1952 and a portrait of Marilyn Monroe at a party held in her honour at the hotel in the summer of 1958.

Other images are of crooner Bing Crosby leaving a Christmas lunch in 1952 dressed as Santa Claus, and Elizabeth Taylor in 1961 celebrating her Oscar win for ‘Best Actress’ in Butterfield 8 at one of the hotel’s legendary bungalows.

The exhibition runs at the hotel until November 10.

Keith Urban Celebrates Hit with a Hero: 'I'm Very Grateful That Merle Haggard Has Another No. 1'

Keith Urban was thrilled to celebrate his 24th chart-topper, “Coming Home,” at a Nashville party on Wednesday — and part of his joy was due to the fact he also put one of his musical heroes back at the top of the charts one more time.

“I’m very grateful that Merle Haggard has another No. 1 under his belt,” Urban, 51, told the gathering of about 100 friends and colleagues before he performed an acoustic version of the song.

It was Urban’s idea to borrow the iconic intro to the late country legend’s classic “Mama Tried” and build an entire song around it — a concept that came to him out of his own wistful desire to have written with some of the greats.

It dawned on him: “If you take a sample from one of their records and took it into a writing session, it would be the same as that writer coming in and going, ‘Oh, I’ve got this little riff,’ and then using that as a spark to start writing a song.”

With the blessing of Haggard’s widow, Theresa, and his artist son, Ben, Urban carved out the song with a succession of songwriters, J.R. Rotem, Nicolle Galyon and Julia Michaels. Both Galyon and pop star Michaels, whose vocals are featured on the song, attended Wednesday’s celebration.

Nicolle Galyon, Keith Urban and Julia Michaels

“Coming Home” is just one of four songs that Urban and Michaels worked on for his last album, Graffiti U, and she told reporters at a press conference before the party that she is primed for more Nashville collaborations.

“I bought a house here earlier this year because I just loved being here,” she said. “I love how down to earth everybody is. I love how ‘storytelling’ the writing is here, and how conversational it all is. And yeah, I would love to be a part of that work.”

Urban was especially delighted by the presence of one more “Coming Home” collaborator: the man who actually played the riff on “Mama Tried.”

“It’s amazing having fricking James Burton in the house,” Urban said, pointing out the 80-year-old guitar great. A 2001 inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Burton recorded and performed with a who’s who of country, rock and pop superstars, including a stint in Elvis Presley’s band from 1969 until his death in 1977.

Urban recalled how Burton sat in on one of his songs at a Louisiana show several years ago, and how every time Urban turned around, Burton just winked and smiled at him. “And all I could think about,” Urban said, “was this guy is used to looking at the back of f—ing Elvis Presley.”

Urban is now focused on his next recording project, though he offered no details other than the possibility of collaborations. He indicated he’s hard at work in his studio — so much so that his wife, Nicole Kidman, went off without him on a Smoky Mountain vacation with their daughters, Sunday, 11, and Faith, 8, and Kidman’s sister and children, who’ve been visiting from Australia.

“Everybody’s into a big family thing, and I’m in the studio doing stuff,” Urban said. “So I said go and have a few days for sister time, kids, the whole bit.”

Urban hits the red carpet on Nov. 13 for the CMA Awards, where he’s nominated for male vocalist of the year and entertainer of the year. His name is also among the initial list of performers announced on Wednesday, and he told the pre-party press conference that he plans to sing current top 10 single, “We Were.”

Urban just released a new version of the song this week featuring Eric Church — the result of his discovery, after originally recording the song, that Church is a co-writer.

“It’s unusual for me to not know that,” Urban explained. “But I got sent the song, and he wasn’t singing the demo, and I just loved the song so much that I learned it by ear.”

When Urban finally received the printed lyrics, he saw Church’s name alongside co-writers Jeff Hyde and Ryan Tyndell, “and I’m like, no way, no way, no way!” recalled Urban, who noted the two collaborated on the chart-topping duet, “Raise Em Up,” in 2015. “So I texted Eric … and I thought, man, I would really love to hear him sing that song, because in my head, I could hear it. And so I called him up over the summer and asked if there was a time he could come to the studio and do a version with him taking a couple of verses, and he made it happen.”

Canadian Tourist, 19, Accidentally Captures a Stranger's Romantic Engagement in Her Vacation Photos

Rome is known for being one of the most romantic cities in the world, and one Canadian tourist certainly found this to be true while visiting the Italian capital on vacation.

Alycia Savard-Ouellet, 19, of Charlevoix, Quebec, realized that she caught a once-in-a-lifetime moment on camera while checking out the Trevi Fountain, one of Rome’s most popular destinations.

The science student, who was in the city for five nights on a solo excursion, asked a new friend she made on the trip to take a few pictures of her in front of the famous landmark. It wasn’t until later that she realized a man could be seen asking his girlfriend to marry him in the background.

Though Savard-Ouellet is the main focus in the photos — smiling and posing for the camera — the happy couple can be seen in the bottom right. The man is dressed in a purple button-down and striped pants, and the woman in a red dress, black jacket and white sneakers.

While the majority of the photos show the pair embracing and sharing a smooch, one of them shows the exact moment of him popping the question — the man holding out a ring and the woman clasping both hands to her mouth.

“Once I came back home, I was showing my pictures to my parents on the TV and I told them ‘Oh I remember, I was laughing because of the cute couple kissing,’” Savard-Ouellet told the Daily Mail.  “Then my mom went, ‘Wait, go back to the picture before this one,’ and we noticed he looked like he was proposing.”

Now, she is on a mission to find the couple in the photos, hoping to share the sweet memory with them.

“They are really cute and in the moment,” Savard-Ouellet told the Daily Mail. “It was amazing, I hope I can find them.”

The student told Fox News on Tuesday that she has been taking steps towards connecting with the couple, joining and posting in a travel-focused Facebook group, which boasts almost one million followers.

UK’s top haunted B&Bs where you can book a spooky stay

Haunted hotels conjure up images of abandoned, derelict buildings in isolated locations – basically, the stuff of horror films.

However that's not always the case.

In fact, there are plenty of haunted hotels across the UK tucked away in popular destinations, where paranormal activity and ghostly goings-on are the norm – and they're still open for business.

Amidst all the ghosts and supernatural offerings, these hotels offer cosy bedrooms, pretty locations and hearty breakfasts.

To give ghost-hunters some inspiration, hotels booking site eviivo previously trawled the UK to seek out the most haunted and spookiest B&Bs across the UK.

We take a look at the top seven properties where you can book in for a spooky stay…

1. Castle Levan, Inverclyde

Legend has it that this castle is haunted by the 'White Lady' who tortured and killed tenants in the castle. She was sentenced to death but her punishment was later commuted to imprisonment in the castle, where her husband was so disgusted by her behaviour he left her to starve to death.

Since then, her spirit is said to have remained in the castle with guests and staff reporting sightings.

How much? Room prices start from £135 per night.

2. Dobbins Inn, Co Antrim

One of Ireland's oldest family-run pubs, this cosy inn will leave you feeling like you've stepped back in time with its quirky features including a real coal-burning fire.

Steeped in history, it's also said to be the home of the ghost of Elizabeth Dobyn, now nicknamed 'Maud', who wanders through the hotel corridors in search of her fallen lover – and manages to give guests quite the fright in the process.

How much? Room prices start from £65 per night.

3. The Cridford Inn, Newton Abbot

The oldest inn in Devon dates back to 825AD, and previously served as a nunnery and farm. However, nowadays it's said to be home to two ghosts; one thought to be a Nun who resided at the property, the other a Cavalier who died during the Civil War.

How much? Room prices start from £99 per night.

4. Schooner Hotel, Alnmouth

Paranormal investigators flock to this hotel where there have been over 3,000 reports of ghostly apparitions and supernatural presences.

There are said to be at least sixty different spirits wandering through the halls, and you can even book a private ghost hunt with the hotel's resident medium.

How much? Room prices start from £61.20 per night.

5. Brocket Arms, Welwyn

Originally the monastic quarters for the Norman Church, legend has it that a priest was tried and hanged here during the Reformation – but his spirit never left the building.

How much? Room prices start from £85 per night.

6. Woolpack Inn, Canterbury

This 600-year-old building is said to be haunted by the Grey Lady – but don't worry, she's apparently a friendly spirit who wanders around the older parts of the main building.

Not much is known about why her spirit remains on the property, although some have suggested she may have been one of the inn's former owners.

How much? Room prices start from £85 per night.

Samlesbury Hall is hailed as one of the UK's most haunted homes and reportedly houses plenty of spirits including the legendary White Lady who is said to have died of a broken heart and now roams the Hall and its grounds.

Paranormal enthusiasts may also recognise the property which starred on TV series Most Haunted.

How much? Room prices start from £120 per night.

Southwest Airlines’ 2019 Winter Flight Sale Includes Fares As Low As $49

Now that temperatures are aggressively dropping and the start of November is just around the corner, there’s no denying that, in the words of the Starks, winter is coming. Luckily, a warm weather escape is probably just a hop and a skip away by plane, which means you can put off the inevitable and soak in some patio season vibes while everyone else is going into full hibernation mode. Southwest Airlines’ 2019 Winter Flight Sale, which began on Oct. 21 and runs until Thursday, Oct. 24, is your ticket for doing that without breaking the bank.

As someone who checks out flight sales on the regular to save bank on last-minute getaways, I’ll say that Southwest is definitely at the top when it comes to budget airlines. Not only do you not have to mentally calculate baggage fees and add them to your ticket price with the company’s two free checked bags policy, but you can cancel your trip right before your flight or change flights without any extra fees. So, when I heard that it was that time of year for Southwest Airlines’ Winter Flight Sale, I was pretty stoked to see what great deals (preferably to sun-soaked locations) I could find.

According to the fine print, the company’s winter sale goes through Oct. 24 at midnight PT, meaning you have about two days to sort through the different options and make moves on booking your vacation.

Looking through, I noticed that the lowest fares seemed to clock in around $49, such as a rock-bottom ticket from Atlanta to Nashville. If you’ve been dreaming of getting away to Music City, USA and strolling down Honky Tonk Highway sans parka, you’ll definitely won’t want to sleep on paying what’s equivalent to two checked bags for your flight.

Meanwhile, paying $59 can score you a ticket from Oakland to Reno/Tahoe, from El Paso to Phoenix, and from Salt Lake City to Las Vegas. Meanwhile, if you’re looking to fully embrace the fall foliage and changing colors, I’d recommend taking advantage of a $59 flight from from Providence to Washington D.C. These are just a few of the many low fares that are available, so I’d check out the domestic and international options on the Southwest sale page.

As with all flight sales, unfortunately, there’s some fine print details to take into consideration before you move forward with your purchase. While travel stateside is valid as early as Nov. 4 through March 4, 2020, a 14-day advance purchase is required for domestic flights or 21 days for other flights, so I wouldn’t wait until the last day of the sale to buy if you’re wanting to fly out ASAP.

Meanwhile, any inter-island travel in Hawaii is valid from Nov. 11 through March 4 while travel to and from San Juan, Puerto Rico is valid between Nov. 11 through Dec. 5, 2019, and Jan. 13 through March 5. If you’re planning to take advantage of some of the international ticket sales, meanwhile, you’ll need to book between Nov. 11 through Dec. 11 and Jan. 7 through March 5 next year.

Per the fine print, continental U.S. travel is valid only Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, so there’s definitely a chance that you’ll need to request some OOO time with this sale. Last but not least, a number of days are unsurprisingly blacked out around the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s holidays, so I’d check the details to make sure that your flight doesn’t fall on one of those off days.

Still, these are probably some of the best prices you’re going to see this season (can I reiterate zero baggage and flight change fees?!), so I’d set aside some time today to browse through and make moves on booking a getaway.

This Year’s Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Has Officially Been Chosen — Get a First Look!

It’s (almost) the most wonderful time of the year!

Despite the fact that Halloween and Thanksgiving are still ahead, the folks over at Rockefeller Center already have their sights set on Christmas. The 2019 Rockefeller Center Christmas tree has officially been selected, and will grace the streets of New York City with its dazzling lights in just a few short weeks.

This year’s massive Norway Spruce hails from the Village of Florida in Orange County, New York, and will be cut down on Thursday, November 7 before being raised at Rockefeller Plaza on Saturday, November 9.

Rockefeller Center revealed their selection to the public via Instagram, sharing a photo of the winning spruce.

“Each year, Rockefeller Center receives submissions from families in hopes their tree will bring joy to the millions who visit Rockefeller Plaza during the holiday season,” reads the caption. “We usually select a Norway spruce that is later on in its life cycle, and plant a young one in its place.”

So as not to be wasteful, the organization shared that once the holidays have passed, the tree will be recycled as lumber and donated to Habitat for Humanity for use in their various projects.

There are no further details about the size or age of this year’s tree, but last year’s was a 75-year-old, 72-foot-tall Norway spruce that “grew up” 70 miles outside of Manhattan in Wallkill, New York.

It was adorned with more than 50,000 multi-colored LEDs and topped with a Swarovski star designed by architect Daniel Libeskin. The star weighed about 900 lbs. and featured 70 spikes covered in 3 million Swarovski crystals.

Though it will arrive in the Big Apple in November, the 2019 tree will not be lit until December 4, during a much-anticipated ceremony — an annual tradition televised on NBC.

The iconic tree will remain on display until January 14, 2020.

How to Pack Your Wallet for a Trip to Europe

The joy in planning a vacation in European comes from booking Mediterranean boat trips or researching restaurants in Paris, not the boring details of how you pay for those experiences. But there I was, stuck in a parking lot in Lerici, Italy, because I had forgotten to set up a personal identification number on my credit card (many unmanned kiosks in Europe, like parking ticket machines, require one). That I write about such things for a living only makes the story more embarrassing, so the following checklist has been a crucial part of my European travel prep ever since.

Bring at least two credit cards from different networks

A well-chosen travel credit card should be your main form of payment in Europe. From the London Tube to a neighborhood patisserie, the fraud protection a card offers is unbeatable: You would rather have a thief using your card for their Mitte district shopping spree in Berlin than depleting your actual bank account with your A.T.M. card. Also, the larger spending limit won’t crimp your style if a hotel or a rental-car company places a 200 euros hold on the card.

Pick a credit card that does not charge a foreign transaction fee and you’ll save yourself up to 3 percent of each purchase. And if you have an American Express or Discover card, carry a Visa or Mastercard too, since these cards are more widely accepted abroad.

Before you leave, alert your bank that you’ll be traveling, either with a phone call or through its app. This should let you use your card without incident, although overly cautious financial institutions sometimes mess up and ping you with a fraud alert anyway. While in touch with your bank, see if it allows you to set a P.I.N. on the card (some cards, like the Bank of America Travel Rewards credit card, give you the option). If you don’t have a P.I.N., you should still be able to use your credit card in person, and some unmanned kiosks sometimes allow you to skip this step. Chase, which issues Wirecutter’s favorite travel rewards card, recommends you push the Enter, Continue, or Cancel button when asked for your P.I.N. If these don’t work, you’ll have to pay in cash.

Bring one debit card that you can use at European A.T.M.s

Smaller shops may not accept cards or might “pass on the extra processing fees associated with credit cards to customers,” said Aaron Klein, a Brookings Institution fellow.

So if you want to pay for that pieróg in cash, consider opening a checking account that doesn’t nickel-and-dime you abroad. The ideal option doesn’t charge A.T.M. fees, reimburses A.T.M.-operator expenses worldwide, and forgoes foreign transaction fees. Ken Tumin, founder of DepositAccounts.com, recommends the Schwab Bank High Yield Investor Checking Account, which gives you those benefits. (You need a Charles Schwab brokerage account to get that checking account, but neither one requires a minimum balance.)

If you don’t want to set up a bunch of accounts just to avoid fees, check your bank’s international A.T.M. partners. Bank of America customers can avoid fees in a host of countries by using designated partner machines (Deutsche Bank in Germany, for example). You likely get better exchange rates at an A.T.M. than you do at a currency-exchange window, or from your bank before you depart.

Bring your mobile wallet

Apple Pay and other digital wallets are picking up steam abroad, and these mobile contactless payment systems (where you wave your phone in front of a payment terminal) could save you a lot of hassle — especially if you lack cash or don’t want to fumble with your wallet.

Make sure you’ve loaded your cards with no foreign transaction fees on your phone before you take off. Apple Pay should work even if you’re in airplane mode, so you don’t need a local SIM card to use it.

You can go now go past security at three US airports without a ticket; here’s how it works

You can do it a Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT), and you can do it at Tampa International Airport (TPA).

Now Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) will let you do it, too.

Starting Tuesday Detroit Metro Airport will allow non-ticketed guests to spend time on the post-security side of both the McNamara and North terminals.

The “DTW Destination Pass” program allows non-flyers to come to the airport to shop, eat, check out the art, plane spot, people watch, escort a friend or family to their gate or be there when a loved one deplanes.

“The new regulations allow us to expand our gate pass program that already exists for our Westin hotel guests,” said Wayne County Airport Authority CEO Chad Newton in a statement, “Now we can welcome more community members into our home to create memorable moments — from watching planes to greeting family and friends.”

DTW’s Destination Pass program isn’t permanent (yet) but is being piloted through the holidays with an end date of Jan. 5, 2020.

Other airports invite non-ticketed visitors, too

While DTW’s Destination Pass is being piloted, the gate-pass programs at Pittsburgh International Airport and Tampa International Airport are permanent.

PIT kicked off the trend with the “myPIT Pass” program in August 2017. The program operates Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Non-ticketed visitors may apply for a pass by showing a U.S. government-issued photo ID at a special counter in the terminal.

The Tampa airport introduced its TPA All Access Pass in April 2019. TPA’s pass allows non-ticketed guests who apply at least 24 hours in advance to visit one of four airside areas of the airport each Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. There is a limit of 25 people per airside.

“The All-Access program is well,” said TPA spokeswoman Emily Nipps. “According to the surveys we conduct following our guests’ visits, they love it. No issues at security checkpoints, no issues with the additional people at our airside terminals.”

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport tested a gate-pass program for a few weeks during the 2018 holiday season and had 1,165 people take advantage of the program. Airport spokesman Perry Cooper says the decision to bring back the program on a temporary or permanent basis is still under review.

According to Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman Lorie Dankers, before any airport can offer a gate-pass program to non-ticketed fliers, the airport must submit a formal proposal to the TSA to amend the local airport security plan. If TSA approves the plan, an airport is permitted to invite non-ticketed passengers past security.

So perhaps we’re seeing the beginning of a trend.

How the new Detroit post-security pass works

The “DTW Destination Pass” program allows non-flying guests to head to the Detroit Metro Airport to shop, eat, check out the art, plane spot, people watch, escort a friend or family to their gate or be there when a loved one deplanes. (Photo: Detroit Metro Airport)

Up to 75 non-ticketed passengers a day will be able to enter the secure side of both DTW terminals from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

Visitors will need to apply for a pass through the DTW website the day before their planned visit. Applicants will get an email notification letting them know if the application has been approved. If approved, detailed instructions will be sent electronically.

Pass holders will need to go through the same security screening as all other passengers going through the security checkpoints. During peak checkpoint times, passengers heading to flights will get priority over pass holders at the checkpoints.

After their visit, pass holders will be asked to fill out a survey.

When the pilot program is done, “Wayne County Airport Authority will be evaluating the use of the program, along with the airport’s cost to provide this service. We will also be reviewing the completed participant surveys,” said airport spokeswoman Lisa Gass.
