Irene Roberts (Lynne McGranger) finds herself a suspect in a murder investigation in Home and Away next week, when Susie McAllister’s (Bridie Carter) body washes up on the shore.
The Summer Bay legend had more reason than most to want Susie dead, given that last time they crossed paths, she was chloroformed by the villain.
Suzie subsequently did a runner, making Irene that last person to see her.
Leah Patterson (Ada Nicodemou) and John Palmer (Shane Withington), who were both manipulated by Susie and suffered greatly as a result, have been conducting an investigation into the missing woman, desperately trying to track her down.
Irene, meanwhile headed off on holiday. But when she returns, she finds herself embroiled in a case of murder most foul, as Susie’s body is discovered.
‘A body has washed up and they have found out that its Susie,’ actress Lynne McGranger said, ‘so of course straight away Irene and along with quite a few other Summer Bay residents are suspects in her murder.’
But is Irene really capable of murder?
‘Of course Irene and Susie have had a turbulent relationship ever since Susie arrived in the Bay,’ explained Lynne, weighing in on the question, ‘but I don’t think Irene would be capable of such a horrific act.
‘Although anyone is capable of any one thing at any time given the right circumstances.
‘I really think that Irene would have to be absolutely goaded and pushed into something like that.’
Given the animosity between she and Susie, Irene becomes a prime suspect in the investigation, as she is questioned by the police upon her return to the Bay.
‘Needless to say Irene is feeling a little bit nervous when the cops want to talk to her,’ Lynne continued, ‘because she doesn’t have the best track record! I think this is the third time Irene has been arrested for murder!
‘Irene was the last person to see Susie alive before she disappeared after Susie chloroformed her.
‘Irene was found in a heap on the floor at John Palmer’s house and of course Susie has bailed, so I think Irene is feeling very nervous because the cops are aware that she has got a violent history, even though she knows that she is absolutely innocent.’
Home and Away’s ‘Who Killed Susie?’ story kicks off Monday July 26 at 1:15pm ad 6:30pm on Channel 5.
