Bella (Courtney Miller) has been away for a number of weeks following a destructive episode which saw her self-harm after being triggered during a make-out session with her boyfriend Nikau (Kawakawa Fox-Reo). However, her time at horse therapy has come to an end – and Colby (Tim Franklin) has no idea.
This is because Bella chooses to ring Dean (Patrick O’Connor) instead, wanting to keep Colby out of the loop for now out of fear of relapsing into old patterns. Dean and Willow (Sarah Roberts) go to pick her up, but she panics as they approach the Summer Bay welcome sign and insists they stop the car.
She admits to them that, while she is confident she can now control her reactions to situations and manage her behaviour, she is scared of letting her brother down. Eventually, they get back, and Dean tells Colby that his sister has returned.
Colby is confused and angry when he realises Bella didn’t tell him the news herself, but Dean calms him down enough that he realises he has to do what’s best for her. The pair then bump into each other, and an awkward conversation ensues – until Bella admits she wants to head back home.
A surprise is in store for Colby when he heads into his room later to see an envelope on his bed with his name on it. We see Bella leaving him a message she wrote while at therapy, and there’s also notes for Irene (Lynne McGranger) and Nikau. While Colby understands his note, Nikau is far from happy…
