Colby (Tim Franklin) has been behaving recklessly lately in the aftermath of Ross Nixon’s (Justin Rosniak) body being discovered, realising there’s a chance his murder could be discovered. Dean (Patrick O’Connor) also realises that he could be jailed as an accessory to the murder, and Bella is crumbling under the pressure of homicide detective Angelo Rosetta’s (Luke Jacobz) aggressive line of investigation.
Despite protests from his family, Colby has been pursuing an affair with Rosetta’s wife, Taylor (Annabelle Stephenson), but when Angelo returns to town after pursuing a lead on the case, their plans become uncertain. When Angelo continues to make her feel unloved, she puts pressure on Colby, asking him to confirm if their relationship is genuine.
Faced with pressure on all sides, Colby does not react well when Dean reveals he confessed the truth about Ross’ murder to Ziggy (Sophie Dillman). As Ziggy left him upon finding out his secret, Dean is emotional – which is a recipe for disaster when Colby confronts him.
The two men end up in a fist fight, which leads to their friendship hanging in the balance. To make matters worse, Angelo witnesses everything and begins to question why the pair are at odds suddenly. He is also curious as to why Dean’s general mood has suddenly plummeted.
When Bella discovers Colby and Taylor in an intense conversation, she confides in Nikau about her brother’s affair – and Nikau (Kawakawa Fox-Reo) goes to Colby so he can tell him the impact his behaviour is having on his sister. However, Colby reacts aggressively again, telling Nikau that the last thing he wants to do right now is really push him…
