Ziggy (Sophie Dillman) and Dean (Patrick O’Connor) have both had their worlds rocked recently by the discovery that Dean fathered a child with a woman from his past, Amber (Madeleine Jevic). When she begins working as John’s (Shane Withington) carer in the Bay, she eventually realises he has to know the truth.
When Ziggy discovers that her boyfriend is a father, she realises she must put her feelings aside and be there for Dean. Amber challenges her to support her partner as Dean is left in shock over the fact that he has a five year old kid.
The day comes for Dean to meet his son for the first time – and he is named Jai (River Jarvis), after Amber’s late brother. Dean is immediately besotted with his child, who has a mop of blonde curls and is full of energy.
Amber decides not to overwhelm her son with news and introduces Dean as her friend, much to Dean’s confusion and disappointment. However, he decides to go with what Amber wants and enjoys spending time with Amber and Jai as a family.
Watching from the sidelines, Ziggy is unsettled by Dean’s sudden new family and looks on as her boyfriend plays with his son on the beach. She realises that Dean will throw himself into his new reality and go with what Amber wants for Jai – so where does she fit in?
