Marilyn (Emily Symons) and John (Shane Withington) have been on the rocks in recent months, with John moving out into the caravan park and then having a stroke due to ongoing stress. With the two forced to awkwardly live together due to John’s new needs, it becomes increasingly clear Marilyn is ignoring the truth about their strained marriage.
The day of Ben (Rohan Nichol) and Maggie’s (Kestie Morassi) departure for Italy dawns, and Marilyn prepares for the surprise lunch Alf (Ray Meagher) has organised. Secretly not wanting to go with John, she doesn’t get him ready to attend and suggests it would be too much effort to get all of his equipment together.
John is isolated and dejected at missing the lunch, but Marilyn busies herself and hastily departs. Meanwhile, Ben senses John wants to be there while he’s on the phone, so he quietly enlists Justin’s (James Stewart) help and the two men bring John over in the car.
The situation becomes awkward when Marilyn sees John with Ben and Justin, her excuses about John being too tired to attend quickly unravelling. The tension between the pair is now clear for everyone to see, and when they get home he tells her they need to talk.
Marilyn tries to avoid the issue and sweep it under the rug, but John keeps pushing it. He gets her to admit she is remaining in the house with him due to an obligation as a carer, not as a wife. As he continues to press her, she eventually snaps and admits it – she doesn’t love him any more…
