Why is Home and Away not on TV – when will it be back?

Home and Away is a long-running Aussie soap that has, in the past, included the likes of future stars including Dannii Minogue, Chris Hemsworth and Ready or Not’s Samara Weaving.

The soap has had a UK home on Channel 5 since 1988, allowing viewers this side of the world to keep track of what’s going on in Summer Bay, the fictional setting for the show.

However, fans might have noticed that the soap hasn’t been airing recently.

Why is Home and Away off air?

Is Home and Away on a break?

The soap is on a winter break, last airing a new episode on November 20.

The show is known to take a yearly Christmas break, in order for the series to maintain a gap between the Australian broadcasts on Seven Network.

It’s not unusual for the show to take a short break, with an average year usually shooting about 46 weeks’ worth of episodes that air throughout the year, but the Covid pandemic has reduced the amount of episodes shot this year.

When is Home and Away back?

The good news for fans is that the show will be back in 2021.

Though an exact date has yet to be confirmed, Home and Away bosses have teased what fans can expect when the show returns.

A trailer first shown on Australian TV gave fans a teaser of Dan Ewing’s return to the role of Heath Braxton.

Heath was a regular on Home and Away between 2011 and 2014, but also returned for a guest stint in 2016 and 2017.
