Lewis Hamilton sparks concern as he says he feels like 'giving up'

Lewis Hamilton sparks concern as he tells fans he feels like ‘giving up on everything’ and wants to ‘shut down completely’ in worrying message

  • Lewis Hamilton took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a worrying message
  • The Formula One driver, 34, told fans he felt ‘like giving up on everything’
  • He added the ‘world is such a mess’ and he wanted to ‘shut down completely’
  • Lewis has long been vocal about his fears for the planet
  • The racing driver went vegan two years ago and opened a plant-based restaurant last month

Lewis Hamilton has sparked concern from fans after he took to Instagram to share a worrying message.

The Formula One driver, 34, uploaded a post on his stories on Tuesday, where he told his 13.1 million followers he felt like ‘giving up on everything’.

Lewis wrote: ‘Honestly, I feel like giving up on everything. Shut down completely. Why bother when the world is such a mess and people don’t seem to care.

Cryptic: Lewis Hamilton has sparked concern from fans after he took to Instagram to share a worrying message (pictured at the Formula One Grand Prix in Japan on Sunday)

‘I’m going to take a moment away to gather my thoughts. Thank you to those of you who do give a d**n about the world.’

It is unclear exactly what Lewis is referring to in the cryptic message, but the Formula One star has long been vocal about his fears for the planet and recently shared a series of messages on Instagram about environmental destruction.

After uploading the post, a number of fans tried to contact Lewis through Twitter.

One wrote: ‘Please don’t give up on the world. There are people that care, whilst the world may seem c**p at times you have to look for the positives. I promise you there are some.’

Another fan typed: ‘I am so concerned about Lewis. Hope he is ok.’

Back in August, the racing driver unveiled his plans to open a new vegan burger restaurant chain, in a bid to reduce greenhouse emissions created by livestock.

He opened his first plant-based Neat Burger restaurant last month, which sells vegan burgers called ‘Neat’, ‘Cheese’ and ‘Chick’n’.

Livestock are a major driver of climate change – accounting for nearly 15 percent of greenhouse gas emissions – while producing meat uses land and water less efficiently than crops, according to the U.N.’s Food and Agriculture Organization.

The racing driver previously spoke about his own decision to go vegan two years ago. He told the BBC: ‘ I stopped eating red meat two years ago, I have generally been pescatarian for the majority of the year and now I’ve cut fish.

Global warming: It is unclear exactly what Lewis is referring to in the cryptic message, but the Formula One star has long been vocal about his fears for the planet

‘As the human race, what we are doing to the world… the pollution [in terms of emissions of global-warming gases] coming from the amount of cows that are being produced is incredible.

‘They say it is more than what we produce with our flights and our cars, which is kind of crazy to think, the cruelty is horrible and I don’t necessarily want to support that and I want to live a healthier life.’

It comes after Lewis was denied victory at the Japanese Grand Prix that survived the typhoon by a rare mistake by all-conquering Mercedes.

The race was instead won by Valtteri Bottas – a one-three finish that secured the constructors’ title for the Brackley-based outfit for a record sixth consecutive time.

Lifestyle change: Lewis previously spoke about his own decision to go vegan two years ago. He said: ‘ I stopped eating red meat, I want to live a healthier life’ (pictured last month)

And Lewis expects he will have to wait beyond Mexico, the next race on the calendar and one that could be a struggle for his Mercedes team, to secure his sixth Formula One world championship.

‘For me, it’s never been a case of always wanting to rush things,’ he said.

‘I think Mexico is generally our worst race of the year because of the way our car is set up and it’s going to be a tough one for us. The last few have been pretty shocking, even though we’ve won the title there.

‘I don’t anticipate it (the decider) will be Mexico. I think we will be battling for a good few races.’

Missing out: It comes after Lewis was denied victory at the Japanese Grand Prix that survived the typhoon by a rare mistake by all-conquering Mercedes (pictured winner Valtteri Bottas)

Jordin Sparks on Toddler Antics & Parenting in the Public Eye

Jordin Sparks is no stranger to the highs and lows of motherhood. The American Idol winner, who’s the proud mom to 15-month-old son DJ, has been open on both social media (hi, joyful Instagram account!) and in the press about life with her little one, from the baby blues she experienced after DJ’s birth to the way her family has fun these days.

Not surprisingly, summer fun includes time in the water. Sparks says DJ “has loved water ever since he was born” and has been getting pool time since he was about 3 months old. “I mean, he sees a pool and he points at it and goes, ‘pool! Pool! Water! Water! Water!’ all of the time,” she says. “He wants to be near it.”

Of course, being the mom of a newly mobile water-loving toddler has made water safety a priority for Sparks — and made her recent partnership with Kalahari Resorts & Conventions for National Waterpark Day a no-brainer.

“Now that he’s walking and he can open doors [water safety] is even more important,” she said. “So we’re going to start enrolling him in classes, but my husband and I have [also] been taking him in the water, showing him where the steps are, trying to get him to learn how to float and all of that stuff. He’s very comfortable around [water]. He doesn’t know how to swim yet but he’s not scared of it, which is great.”

That was evident on a recent trip the family made to the resort. “DJ’s eyes got so big because he saw all the kids in the water — he saw the fountains, the slides, the basketball hoop, the swings,” she recalls. “He was in heaven and for us, as the adults there, it was a lot of fun too because it was stress-free. It was sooo much fun. And I’m so happy that we got to do that experience.”

It’s nice to hear Sparks, 29, talking animatedly about sweet — and stress-free — parenting moments, especially since she’s been frank about the anxiety she felt as a new mom.

“I had the baby blues,” she says. “My anxiety shot through the roof as soon as the baby was born. Just fear. Fear of everything. Germs, going outside, fear of other people, fear of people coming into the house, or of people touching him. And it would overwhelm me at times.”

Sparks credits her husband, Dana Isaiah, with getting her through that tough time. “My husband was my rock. He was so great with, you know, being gentle with me and understanding that there was a lot going on with my body and my hormones and everything that happened and that essentially a trauma had just happened to my body, and that I needed time to heal.”

These days, Sparks is experiencing a whole new phase of motherhood. “It’s so much fun because he’s learning,” she says. “Every single day he does something new or he just, like, will point to something and I’ll say something and he’ll repeat it. And it’s clear as day that he is looking at it and registering what I’m saying and it’s just so fascinating. His motor skills are becoming finer and his brain is just so quick, he’s so sharp. It keeps me on my toes.”

And with baby’s age comes mama’s wisdom — the knowledge that she can trust that he’ll be in capable, caring hands when she has to be away from him for work or (gasp!) even a date night, yes — but also an appreciation for just how precious these moments are. She recalls realizing recently, as she rocked him to sleep, that her once-squishy little babe was a little heavier and less squishy. “I was just like, ‘I can’t believe this is going by so fast.,’” She says. “The days are long but the years are short. It’s so true, he’s already almost a year and a half and it went by like that. So I’m cherishing every moment.”

Cherishing — and sharing them with the world, as well. DJ figures prominently (and adorably) in Sparks’ Instagram feed. The decision, which she and Isaiah talked through before DJ was even born, has certainly opened her up to a bit of mom-shaming — Sparks says that right after DJ was born people were like, “where are his clothes?!” because he was always in a diaper (hello — it was summer in LA) — but overall has been a positive experience.

“I remember we had the conversation, like, ‘are we going to post him? Do we feel comfortable with people knowing what he looks like?’ and all of those different things. And then it was like, ‘well, he’s a beautiful part of our life. Why wouldn’t we want to share that?’ … There are a lot of moments that we keep to ourselves, as well — I think that that’s an important thing — but the moments that we do share, we know make people’s day. The world is so crazy right now. If we can bring joy to somebody at some point, why not do that?”

Donald Trump sparks wild conspiracies with vague statement about UFOs

The global UFO believer community has been lit up by wild claims that President Donald Trump knows the truth about whether Earth has been visited by aliens.

Last week, Trump appeared on Fox News and spoke to Tucker Carlson, whose wildly popular show previously claimed the US Government had stored the wreckage of a UFO in some secret location.

But before the segment was screened, hoaxers who appear to be linked to 4Chan circulated a fake post purporting to be from a Fox producer which said the interview contained statements from Trump indicating that aliens are ‘in hiding’ and waiting to ‘reveal themselves’.

After the real interview aired without the President talking about ‘disclosure’, conspiracy theorists speculated that there was a second, secret segment which was pulled because it contained the bombshell truth about aliens.

Interest in unidentified flying objects has reached fever pitch recently after revelations about a US government research programme called the Advanced Aerospace Threat and Identification Program (AATIP) and the publication of videos captured by US Navy pilots depicting their encounters with mysterious aircraft travelling at impossibly high speed.

When Tucker asked the President if he believed in UFOs, Trump responded: ‘I don’t want to get into it too much but personally I doubt it.

‘You have people that swear by it, right, pilots have come in and they have said … and these are not pilos that are into that particular world… we have had peple saying they have seen things.

‘I’m not a believer but I guess anything is possible.’

Tucker then asks Trump about the UFO wreckage and he said: ‘I haven’t heard that no.

‘It has not been a big thing, but i’ve seen it on your show – I’ve seen it.

‘I don’t assume it’s correct but, you know, I have an open mind. Nowadays you can believe anything, right?’

Nick Pope, former MoD UFO investigator, appeared on the Tucker Carlson show after Trump to discuss his comments.

He told Metro: ‘When the UFO community heard that Tucker Carlson had asked the President about UFOs, speculation reached fever pitch. Fox News is the President’s favoured news channel and he regularly watches Tucker’s show.

‘Additionally, Tucker had accompanied the President on his recent Far East trip and even witnessed the meeting with the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, so one theory was that the President had chosen Tucker as the major news figure through whom Disclosure was to be announced. Tucker has a long-standing interest in UFOs and he’s interviewed me seven times in the last few months, and has also interviewed retired intelligence officials involved with the Pentagon’s shadowy AATIP program, which investigated UFOs for the US government.

‘Before the interview was broadcast, a note was posted on the internet purporting to be from a Fox News film editor, giving a partial transcript in which the President essentially confirmed an extraterrestrial presence.

‘This was a hoax, but when the actual interview aired, conspiracy theorists suggested the ‘real’ one had been pulled at the last moment, as part of an ongoing war within the US intelligence community about whether or not to Disclose.’

Pope said that the President’s remarks were ‘genuinely interesting’, even though they were not the smoking bullet many people were hoping for.

British tourist sparks measles alert in Mexico

British tourist sparks health alert in Mexico after coming down with measles… forcing medics to monitor 369 people she has met there daily

  • The 50-year-old woman began feeling ill in the tourist resort of Playa del Carmen
  • She was taken to a private hospital with a fever, cough and red marks on her skin
  • Lab results confirmed it was measles and she started treatment straight away

A British tourist in Mexico has sparked a health alert after being hospitalised with measles, forcing medics to monitor 369 people she has met while on holiday for signs of the infection.

The 50-year-old woman, who has not been named, flew to the city of Cancun in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo before travelling to the tourist resort of Playa del Carmen.

When she arrived at the resort, she began suffering from a fever, cough and red marks on her skin.

A British tourist in Mexico has sparked a health alert after being hospitalised with measles forcing medics to monitor 369 people she has met while on holiday. She had travelled to the resort of Playa del Carmen, pictured

She was taken to a private hospital and treated for one day before being transferred to a public general hospital in the town of Solidaridad.

Lab results confirmed she was suffering from the highly contagious condition and she reportedly said she could not remember if she had been vaccinated against the disease.

Alejandra Aguirre Crespo, the health secretary of Quintana Roo, told local media that the woman had been hospitalised and under treatment within 24 hours of showing symptoms.

She said that authorities had determined she had come into contact with 369 people since she landed in Mexico and they had all been identified.

They will be monitored daily as part of an operation that will end on June 22 when the risk of other cases of the disease appearing disappears.

Crespo added that the tourist may have contracted measles between May 6 and 22, before her trip to Mexico.

WHAT IS MEASLES AND ITS SYMPTOMS?

Measles is a highly contagious viral infection that spreads easily from an infected person by coughing, sneezing or even just breathing.

Symptoms develop between six and 19 days after infection, and include a runny nose, cough, sore eyes, a fever and a rash.

The rash appears as red and blotchy marks on the hairline that travel down over several days, turning brown and eventually fading.

Some children complain of disliking bright lights or develop white spots with red backgrounds on their tongue.

In one in 15 cases, measles can cause life-threatening complications including pneumonia, convulsions and encephalitis.

Dr Ava Easton, chief executive of the Encephalitis Society told MailOnline: ‘Measles can be very serious.

‘[It] can cause encephalitis which is inflammation of the brain.

‘Encephalitis can result in death or disability.’

Treatment focuses on staying hydrated, resting and taking painkillers, if necessary.

Measles can be prevented by receiving two vaccinations, the first at 13 months old and the second at three years and four months to five years old.

Source: Great Ormond Street Hospital

Measles symptoms usually develop six to 19 days after exposure to an infected person and last seven to 10 days.

The tourist’s condition is described as good and she is making progress, according to Crespo, who said the woman is in the last stage of the disease.

She was reportedly travelling with another woman aged 29, a man aged 33, a boy aged 14 and a girl aged seven, all of whom are described as healthy.

Local media report that Mexico has been free of native cases of measles since 1996.

The disease is highly infectious with around 90 per cent of those who are not immune contracting it if they come into contact with an infected person.

The risk of death among those infected is around 0.2 per cent but may be up to 10 per cent in people with malnutrition.

The majority of those who die from the infection are less than five years old and common complications include diarrhoea, middle ear infection and pneumonia.

The Panamerican Organisation of Health claimed that 12 countries in the region have reported confirmed cases of measles in 2019.

These are Argentina, the Bahamas, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the United States, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.

No deaths have been linked with the disease in the region this year.

The current case has come amid a global resurgence of the disease, due largely to an anti-vaccination movement that has emerged in recent years.

According to the World Health Organisation, cases of measles throughout the world quadrupled in the first three months of this year, compared to the same period last year.

Jordin Sparks Talks Postpartum Depression: 'You Feel Like You're a Failure'

Jordin Sparks is known for her soulful singing, delicious culinary concoctions, and feel-good Instagram posts featuring her adorable one-year-old son Dana Isaiah Jr. But the American Idol alum didn’t always feel as upbeat about parenting as life as she does now. Sparks revealed she suffered from postpartum depression in an interview with Us Weekly, saying she felt “so lonely.”

“Everybody knows about what postpartum depression is — maybe not exactly what it all entails because it’s different for each woman — but there’s this thing called the fourth trimester, which happens after you have your baby,” Sparks said. “It’s dealing with everything that happens with your body. Your body goes and changes; your hormones are absolutely insane. Then, you’re dealing with this baby, and something doesn’t go right, and you feel like you’re a failure.”

Sparks added that while people often focus on the fun things related to most stages of pregnancy — like pregnancy cravings, picking out hip baby clothes, and stylish maternity clothes (thanks for the inspiration, Meghan Markle) — we often gloss over the fact that up to one in seven women experience postpartum depression.

“We’ve got tons of people to hold the baby, but who holds us? Who holds us together? Who helps us get through all of that stuff?” Sparks asked. “Obviously, people in your family who knows what you’ve been through had kids before, but sometimes it’s hard to reach out because you’re like, ‘How do I feel so lonely when this amazing thing just happened?’”

While she sometimes felt lonely, Sparks said she had a great support system to help her through the transition into motherhood, including her husband, Dana Isaiah, which is why she feels it’s vital new parents open up about their emotional well-being.

Recently, more celebrities have talked about their PPD experiences, including Chrissy Teigen, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Vanessa Lachey. Their admissions have sparked meaningful conversations about postnatal care and the changes the physical changes that happen after delivery. It’s important new parents know they’re not alone and that there are resources to help, such as hotlines, support groups, and counselors. Kudos to Sparks for continuing the conversation!

Jordin Sparks Shares 'Lonely' Experience With Postpartum Depression

Sharing her story. Jordin Sparks experienced postpartum depression when she welcomed her 12-month-old son, Dana Isaiah Jr., with her husband, Dana Isaiah, in May 2018.

“Everybody knows about what postpartum depression is — maybe not exactly what it all entails because it’s different for each woman — but there’s this thing called the fourth trimester, which happens after you have your baby,” the singer, 29, told Us Weekly exclusively on Wednesday, May 22, while promoting sickle cell disease awareness. “It’s dealing with everything that happens with your body. Your body goes and changes, your hormones are absolutely insane.”

The American Idol winner added: “Then you’re dealing with this baby and then something doesn’t go right. … We’ve got tons of people to hold the baby, but who hold us? Who hold us together? Who helps us get through all that stuff? Obviously, people in your family who knows what you’ve been through and had kids before, but sometimes it feels hard to reach out because you’re like, ‘How do I feel so lonely when this amazing thing just happened?’”

The musician pulled through the transition with the help of fellow moms, specifically her friend Morgan who got pregnant a month after Sparks did.

“I would talk to her and be like, ‘I feel like this today. Sorry, I just needed to let you know,’” the new mom explained. “And she’d be like, ‘No, I understand. That was me yesterday.’ I’d be like, ‘Oh, God. Thanks. OK. Good. I know I’m not the only one.’”

While Sparks believes these “heavy” moments should be talked about, she is also passionate about spreading sickle cell disease awareness through her Gen S partnership.

“It’s called Generation S and S stands for sickle,” the Arizona native told Us. “So what we’re doing is we’re encouraging people who have been affected by it in some way – whether a family member or a caretaker, or they’ve been dealing with it themselves – to go online, to joingens.com, and to share their story because we want to rewrite the face of what sickle cell looks like because you can’t tell that somebody has it by looking at them.”

Pregnant Marnie Simpson sparks rumours she's having TWINS as guest reveals there was pink AND blue confetti at gender reveal party

MARNIE Simpson has sparked rumours she’s having TWINS as fans spot pink AND blue confetti at gender reveal party last night.

The Geordie Shore babe and partner Casey Johnson, 24, announced they are expecting a baby in October but want to keep the sex under wraps from the public.

After revealing they were pregnant in OK! Magazine earlier this year, the couple seem keen to keep the news private for the time being.

But it looks like the gender may have accidentally been revealed as in many snaps from the lavish bash, pink confetti could be seen on the floor.

However, other photos showed that the floor was visibly covered with both pink AND blue confetti. Suggesting that the couple could even be having twins.

The 27-year-old and her baby daddy-to-be played host to a slew of reality stars, friends and family who all gathered to discover the sex of their child.

Marnie's cousin Sophie Kasaei was there dressed in a bright pink dress and matching heels, along with several other pals, including Chloe Ferry, Lauren Goodger, Nathan Henry.

The London party took place in a marquee decorated with gold and white balloons, and of course an Instagram-friendly flower wall for picture perfect shots.

One balloon display read: "Baby Johnson," while another set of floral letters spelt out the word "Baby".

Guests drank champagne and downed pink and blue shots, while they grazed on doughnuts as they waited eagerly to find out the result.

The unplanned pregnancy came as a shock to Marnie as she feared she may be infertile after years of alcohol abuse on Geordie Shore. She also revealed she’d had an abortion when she was younger that she believed would cause complications.

She said: "When I look back I definitely feel I made the right decision. I don’t regret it. I was so young, I didn’t have a job, a driving licence, or any money."

Last year Marnie admitted making baby plans with her boyfriend of two-and-a-half years.

The couple – who met on Single AF – are now ready to become parents. And the reality TV star has always wanted to have a little boy – and says she's on target to give birth at the right age in life.

Marnie and Casey are yet to speak publicly on what gender their little one will be, so for now fans will have to keep speculating.

Naomi Campbell Sparks Adoption Rumors After Mother's Day Post With Baby

First-time mom? Naomi Campbell shared a sweet shot with a newborn on Mother’s Day, which led to rumors that she had adopted a child.

Some of the supermodel’s Instagram followers congratulated her on the little one, while others asked when she had welcomed the baby. In the sweet shot, the Face judge, 48, smiled down at a swaddled infant and held her hand.

A rep for Campbell denied that she adopted. The photo was taken when the Swan author visited an orphanage in Lagos.

A post shared byNaomi Campbell (@naomi) on

Pregnancy speculation previously swirled in July 2018 after Campbell’s then-rumored boyfriend, Joseph “Skepta” Adenuga, posted a sonogram on Instagram labeled, “Baby Adenoma.” He captioned the ultrasound photo with a rose emoji.

Although Drake and Lil Yachty, among other celebrities, commented with their congratulations, Campbell silently bashed rumors that she was expecting by sharing a boat pic two days later, showing off her flat stomach in a black bikini and gold body chains. “Happy 1st of August my loves,” she wrote.

The actress was romantically linked to One Direction alum Liam Payne in January after the two flirted on social media. Three months later, Campbell was asked about the romance on The Jonathan Ross Show.

“I never discuss my personal life,” she said at the time. “I mean, it’s crazy. It’s like … one day it’s one person, the next day it’s another. Who’s tomorrow?”

After their split, the musician, 25, was spotted cozying up to a mystery woman at Coachella in April.

“[He] seemed unbothered by his breakup with Naomi and was making rounds at Coachella with a new girl,” an eyewitness told Us Weekly exclusively last month. “At a party, he ended up stripping down, taking off his shirt and grinding and kissing on his new girl. At 2 a.m., they left together and called it a night.”

Diane Abbott sparks fury defending WikiLeaks' Julian Assange and saying: 'We all know it's not about the rape charges'

DIANNE Abbott has today sparked fury after defending Julian Assange, arguing: “We all know it’s not about the rape charges.”

The Shadow Home Secretary was quickly accused of “dismissing” sexual assault allegations the Wikileaks co-founder faced in Sweden.

She has even called for Britain to block his extradition to the US after he revealed sensitive military information.

Ms Abbott defended the 47-year-old and repeated the phrase “charges were never” brought against him three times during a radio interview this morning.

Speaking on Radio 4's Today programme, she said: "The allegations were made but the charges were never brought.

"We all know what this is about. It's not the rape charges.

"It's about the Wikileaks and all of that embarrassing information about the activities of the American military and security services that was made public."

WHISTLEBLOWER

She added he was a "whistleblower" and his leaks of thousands of unredacted documents and state secrets were in the "public interest".

Charges were never brought against him for the rape and sexual assault allegations, she argued, but this was because his evasion in the embassy meant he wasn't able to be questioned.

Her comments this morning sparked outrage online with many social media users suggesting he was only seeking immunity in the Ecuadorian Embassy to escape charges.

Yesterday, Assange was arrested and found guilty of breaching bail and now faces being booted over to America.

WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR:

  • Julian Assange was found guilty of skipping bail in UK and could face a year in jail
  • Arrested after 2,487 days holed up in the Ecuadorian Embassy – costing taxpayers more than £10m
  • He went into hiding in August 2012 to avoid facing extradition to Sweden for sex assault and rape allegations
  • Wanted in US for espionage and publication of sensitive government documents
  • He fears he could face death penalty if extradited to US over WikiLeaks scandal

District Judge Michael Snow told the court that Mr Assange had shown "the behaviour of a narcissist who cannot get beyond his own selfish interest".

But Ms Abbott and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn have defended him, saying the government should oppose his extradition.

He said last night: “The extradition of Julian Assange to the US for exposing evidence of atrocities in Iraq and Afghanistan should be opposed by the British government."

And controversial MP Chris Williamson – who is currently suspended from the party over anti-Semitism remarks – also tweeted his backing for him, calling his arrest "disgusting".

Their defence of Assange sparked a furious row among his own MPs.

EVADED CHARGES

Birmingham Yardley MP Jess Phillips blasted the party for their backing and said he should face justice.

She tweeted: "The fact that Assange has evaded charges of sexual violence and skipped bail should be opposed by the Labour Party. I'm sure it is, I'd like to hear it."

And her colleague Diana Johnson added: "You don’t appear to mention the rape charges against him and the fact he has evaded justice for 7 years? #ViolenceAgainstWomen."

Assange took refuge at the embassy in 2012 to avoid being extradited to Sweden, where authorities wanted to question him as part of a sexual assault investigation.

Theresa May said yesterday she believed all MPs would welcome his arrest and welcomed his arrest after years of hiding.

FACING JUSTICE: Assange rape accuser demands case is reopened

ONE of Julian Assange's rape accusers today demanded Swedish prosecutors re-open the sex assault case against him.

In August 2010, an arrest warrant was issued for Assange for two separate allegations – one of rape and one of molestation – after he visited Sweden.

The Wikileaks journalist, who denies the allegations, requested political asylum after British courts ruled that he should be extradited to Stockholm.
Sweden later dropped the charges in 2017 – five years after he sought refuge in the Ecuadorian Embassy to hide from the allegations.

The reason the case was dropped was because authorities did not believe Assange would be handed over within a reasonable time.

Speaking today, the lawyer of one of the accusers said she hopes the Swedish preliminary investigation against Assange will resume.
Elisabeth Massi Fritz said: "My client and I have just received the news that Assange has been arrested.

“That what we have been waiting for and hoping for almost seven years now, of course, comes as a shock to my client.

“We will do everything we can to ensure that the prosecutors resume the Swedish preliminary investigation so that Assange can be extradited to Sweden and prosecuted for rape.”

She said: "This goes to show that in the United Kingdom, no one is above the law."

Tory Minister for Women, Victoria Atkins MP blasted: "Diane Abbott’s dismissal of rape charges speaks volumes about Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party.

"It’s astonishing that the party which prides itself on fighting for women’s rights is so willing to ignore allegations of sexual violence.

"Jeremy Corbyn and Diane Abbott need to realise that not even their heroes are above the law."

Assange waved to the public gallery at Westminster Magistrates' Court before he was remanded into custody yesterday.

Last night he was transferred to Wandsworth Prison in  South West London, where he joined speedboat killer Jack Shepherd, another recaptured fugitive.

He will now learn his fate at Southwark Crown Court on May 2.

CASE AGAINST HIM IN THE US

THE criminal case against Julian Assange  in the US was revealed last night.

The WikiLeaks hacker is wanted on conspiracy charges for committing “computer intrusion”.

And he  is  charged with conspiring with ex-intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning — jailed for 35 years before her sentence was commuted in 2017 — to crack a Department of Defence password.

Assange faces a maximum five years if convicted.

Details of the US investigation emerged in a six-page charge sheet filed at Virginia’s Eastern District court on March 6, 2018.

US prosecutors say Assange knew Manning had already handed over four huge secret databases to WikiLeaks in 2010.

They included 90,000 Afghanistan war reports, 400,000 Iraq reports, 800 briefings on Guantanamo Bay detainees and 250,000  diplomatic cables.

Despite that, he agreed to help crack the password, telling her: “Curious eyes never run dry in my experience.” Later, he asked her for more information to help the operation, adding: “No luck so far.”

The pair used the Jabber online chat service to plot the hack and took measures to cover Manning’s tracks as it unfolded, prosecutors allege.

CASE AGAINST HIM IN SWEDEN

SWEDISH prosecutors are considering  relaunching a rape investigation into Julian Assange.

Officials said the allegations made against him were due to expire under the country’s statute of limitations in August next year.

But his arrest  means the investigation  could  be reopened after a request from an alleged victim.

Deputy chief prosecutor Eva-Marie Persson said: “We will now examine the matter to determine how we proceed. The preliminary investigation has therefore not been resumed yet and we do not know today whether it will happen. We cannot promise any timetable for when decisions will be made.”

Assange was accused of attacking a woman after they met at a WikiLeaks conference in Stockholm in 2010.  She alleged that Assange had unprotected sex with her while she was asleep even though she had refused him repeatedly.

The case  was dropped in May 2017 after the director of public prosecutions ruled it impossible to proceed while he was under Ecuador’s protection.

But yesterday, the woman’s lawyer Elisabeth Massi Fritz piled pressure on prosecutors, saying: “No rape victim should have to wait nine years to see justice be served.”

Girlfriend sparks real life 'Where's Wally' hunt at Disney World after asking thousands of online strangers to help find her missing boyfriend

A YOUNG woman visiting Walt Disney World sparked a real life version of Where's Wally? after she turned to Facebook for help tracking down her lost boyfriend.

Brittany Blake and Regory Turco were spending the day at Florida's Epcot resort when they managed to get separated.

In desperation to find her boyfriend — whose phone had reportedly died — Brittany turned to a Facebook group for Disney super fans for help.

She wrote: "Weird post but lost my boyfriend in Epcot today and haven’t been able to find him for hours because his phone is dead.

"If anyone sees him can they tell him to meet us at the Mexican pavilion?

"PS — I’m the one who’s nervous here because I hate being alone lmao. He’s prob off drinking."

She then posted a photo of the two in front of Spaceship Earth within the theme park, showing Regory wearing a very distinctive Hawaiian shirt.

Internet sleuths quickly got to work to help the distressed woman find her man.

In just two hours, more than 1,300 people commented and nearly 700 Facebook users reacted to the post.

One woman posted to the group with laughing faces following her comment: "That shirt is very distinctive. Someone should be able to spot him."

The search turned into an event, and a hashtag was even created for the investigators.

One member of the group commented: "This is my favourite post ever in AP! #FINDREGORY #FINDBRITTANYBF"

Most of those commenting were making fun of Brittany for losing her adult boyfriend at the theme park, with some posting gifs from Where's Wally?

One person asked: "How long before Brittany can start looking for a new boyfriend?"

Another replied: "Is this where the 5 second rule comes in?"

There were also those who asked whether Brittany was the beneficiary of her boyfriend's life insurance policy.

But others truly wanted to help track Regory down.

Those who were concerned offered up ideas of where the lost boyfriend might be, with many annual pass holders inside the park looking for the man as well.

But, as time kept ticking, there was still no sign of him, and with 15 minutes left until the park closed, Brittany's lost boyfriend was still missing.

Not only was she getting worried, but group members were wanting answers.

One person asked: "Well? Did Brittany find him?"

Another commented: "Following — need to know how it ends! Where does she find him? Does someone else find him first?"

One person advised: "This is why we always have a designated meeting place if we get split up and can’t reach each other.

"Head to customer service/to the front of the park. I’m certain he’s there trying to find you as well."

But with just minutes to spare, Regory in his red Hawaiian shirt was spotted.

Nearly three hours after her post, she found him waiting in line for the Frozen attraction.

Blake issued an update on the Facebook group: "Update on my boyfriend: Found on the frozen ride. He was drinking all day while looking for me. BTW: thanks for everyone’s nice comments!!"

The Facebook group breathed a collective sigh of relief as some joked that they need another round next year.

A second thread on the Facebook page is now calling for Regory to explain what he was doing for those three hours.

Disney World does not have any advice for lost adults, but does advise what parents should do if a child is lost: "A child who becomes separated from his or her parents while in the park will be escorted by a Cast Member to the Baby Care Center.

"Once there, the child will be looked after until the parent comes to claim the child. If you can’t locate your child, alert a Cast Member and then check the Baby Care Center.

Disney staff have secret words they use in emergencies, including lost children.

The phrase "lost adult" actually means a child has been lost, but it is used to not cause alarm.

Diane Abbott sparks fury after blaming Sajid Javid over the death of Shamima Begum’s baby son

In an emergency Commons debate over the death Labour’s shadow home secretary said the Home Secretary should have allowed the jihadi bride and her three-week old baby son Jarrah back into the UK.

She claimed Mr Javid’s refusal to help and his decision to strip her of her British citizenship was responsible for the death of the baby, who died of pneumonia in a Syrian refugee camp on Friday.

Ms Abbott stormed: “He has a responsibility to appear just and fair in the eyes of the british public and this decision which has led as night follows day to this less than three-week old baby dying, does not appear just or fair to the majority of the British public.”

She also delivered an extraordinary personal attack on Mr Javid – asking him how he would feel if his own daughter was forced to bury three babies like Ms Begum.

But in a strong rebuttal in the Commons the Home Secretary hit back: He “The death of any British child, even those children born to a foreign terrorist fighter, of course is a tragedy – but the only person responsible for the death of that child is the foreign terrorist fighter.”

Ms Abbott’s decision to blame Mr Javid for Jarrah’s death sparked fury last night.

Tory MP for Dover Charlie Elphicke stormed: “It is shocking and shameful attack on Sajid Javid when everyone knows that this Ms Begum decided to go to Syria to join ISIS.

“There’s no way that the Home Secretary can be held responsible for that or the terrible conditions that exist in a conflict warzone.”

Halsey Sparks Pregnancy Speculation After Saying She Has ‘Biggest Secret’

Think again! Halsey sparked pregnancy speculation when she teased a major announcement on Twitter on Monday, February 18 — but quickly put those rumors to rest.

“People think my last tweet is me hinting I’m pregnant,” the singer, 24, tweeted later that day. “Which means I’m either: a. gaining weight b. acting weirder than usual.”

She added: “Jokes on u, I’m doing BOTH. However STILL not pregnant!”

When a fan asked what was wrong with gaining weight, she responded, “Nothing at all!!!!! I feel really good right now tbh!”

The confusion started when the Grammy nominee, whose real name is Ashley Frangipane, wrote, “I have The Biggest Secret (unrelated to the album) and when you guys hear it, some of you are gonna explode. Into actual pieces.”

Pregnancy rumors aside, some fans speculated that her announcement may have something to do with her new beau. The New Jersey native and her boyfriend, Yungblud, made their relationship Instagram official in early January, three months after Us Weekly confirmed that Halsey split from her on-off boyfriend G-Eazy.

Although she denied romance rumors about her and John Mayer in November 2018 with a sassy tweet, the “Bad at Love” singer made it more than clear that she’s seeing Yungblud.

In the shot she shared with the rock musician, who was born Dominic Harrison, he had his arm around her as they walked down a street in his native England. “Camden: Now with a cute filter,” Halsey captioned the pic, which was taken from behind.

The duo released their single “11 Minutes” last week, but haven’t just been collaborating on their music. They also vacationed on a yacht on Saturday, February 16. Halsey shared footage on her Instagram Story of Yungblud giving her a foot massage.

Motorist sparks outrage after he parks a military ‘tank’ on street

Motorist sparks outrage after he parks a military ‘tank’ on a residential street in Manchester for months

  • Armoured personnel carrier has been parked on Manchester street for months
  • Councillor David Ellison now wants to remove it after complaints from residents
  • But others have asked the Labour councillor to ‘leave the tank alone’ in Didsbury

A motorist has sparked outrage after he parked an ex-British Army vehicle on a residential street and left it there for months.

The armoured personnel carrier, known as ‘the tank’, has been spotted in the Didsbury, Manchester area for the past 20 years.

But now, after months of complaints, Councillor David Ellison has pledged to remove the vehicle from the T-junction where it is parked.

The armoured personnel carrier, known as ‘the tank’, has been spotted in the Didsbury, Manchester area for the past 20 years

He said: ‘A number of people have been to me with their concerns over the tank that has been parked for many months now at the corner of Old Lansdowne Road and Lapwing lane.

‘I have raised this with the council on behalf of local residents and will continue to push for it to be removed as it is causing a hazard.’

The military vehicle’s owner, who did not want to be named, said the APC is taxed and insured.

He also confirmed he has a licence for the carrier, the BBC reported.

But despite some residents claiming the vehicle is a hazard to the area, others have asked Mr Ellison to ‘leave the tank alone.’

Writing on the Labour councillor’s Facebook page, one said: ‘Leave the tank alone. The kids [love] seeing it and it’s a fun feature for the area.’

But now, after months of complaints, Councillor David Ellison has pledged to remove the vehicle from the T-junction where it is parked

Phil Hobson said: ‘These tanks have been here years. When I was a boy, I used to go look at them.

‘I’ve now taken my kids to look at them.’

Lee Halliday said: ‘How is this causing any more of a hazard than the car parked in front of it.

‘As long as it isn’t on double yellow lines and is registered taxed then I don’t think there is anything wrong with it being parked here.’

The Highway Code says motorists must not leave their vehicles in ‘a dangerous position or where it causes any unnecessary obstruction of the road’.

It also says parking on the pavement can ‘obstruct and seriously inconvenience pedestrians, people in wheelchairs or with visual impairments and people with prams or pushchairs.’

Count of Paris’s death sparks a game of non-existent thrones

Count of Paris’s death sparks a game of non-existent thrones as his son battles with another descendant of Louis XIV and Napoleon’s great-great-great-great-nephew to be named his successor

  • Henri d’Orleans died this week aged 85; he was descended from Louis Philippe I (brother to Louis XIV), last king to have reigned in France, from 1830 to 1848
  • His son, Jean, has inherited the title, and is one of the pretenders to the ‘throne’
  • Second pretender is Louis Alphonse – known to his followers as Louis XX; he is the most senior living male descendant of France’s last Bourbon king, Louis XIV
  • Jean-Christophe is descended from Emperor Napoleon I’s family and is the Bonapartist pretender

Count of Paris Henri d’Orleans (above) died this week, aged 85. He was descended from Louis Philippe I, the last king to have reigned in France, from 1830 to 1848. Now, three men are laying claim to the non-existent title ‘King of France’

The death of 85-year-old Henri d’Orleans this week has triggered a battle… for ‘succession’ to the non-existent throne of France.

Henri, also known as Count of Paris, was descended from Louis Philippe I, the last king to have reigned in France, from 1830 to 1848.

Louis Philippe, also known as the Duke of Orléans, was brother to Louis XIV – and if French royalists had had their way, Henri d’Orleans would have been dubbed Henri VII.

Now, three men are laying claim to the title following the passing of the pretender to the defunct French throne, on Monday – exactly 226 years after his distant cousin Louis XVI (the ‘Sun King’) was guillotined in Paris.

Henri was said to harbour royal ambitions, but the movement to restore France’s monarchy progressively dwindled since the years leading up to World War Two, when it was viewed in some quarters as a credible threat to Republicanism.

Here are the three men who would be king…

Prince Jean d’Orleans

Jean d’Orleans (above), the Duke of Vendome, is now head of the House of Orleans following his father Henri’s death

Louis XIV (above) was the brother of France’s ‘Citizen-King’ Louis-Philippe d’Orléans (Louis Philippe I)

Henri’s son, Jean d’Orleans, now inherits his father’s title. It was he who announced the Count’s death, on Facebook.

Born in May 1965, Jean, Duke of Vendome, is the new head of the House of Orleans, which is a branch of the House of Bourbon, whose kings first ruled France in the 16th century.

He married Austrian aristocrat Philomena de Tornos Steinhart in Paris in 2009, and the couple have five children.

As well as the Louis XIV family connection, the male line of his family also descend from France’s ‘Citizen-King’ Louis-Philippe d’Orléans (Louis Philippe I), who reigned from 1830 to 1848.

French royalists (also known as Unionists) recognise 53-year-old Jean as the legitimate claimant to the throne.

Jean has also shown his support for the gilets jaunes (‘yellow vests’) protesters, who have been demonstrating over the rising cost of living, the Guardian reported.

Born in May 1965, Jean is married to Austrian aristocrat, with whom he has five children.  The House of Orleans is a branch of the House of Bourbon, whose kings first ruled France in the 16th century

Louis Alphonse de Bourbon (with his wife, Maria) is known by his followers as Louis XX

Louis Alphonse, Duke of Anjou

Henri d’Orleans vied for his claim with the Bourbons, who are based in Spain and headed by the 44-year-old Louis Alphonse, Duke of Anjou.

To his followers, Louis is known as Louis XX (should he ever be crowned) – and he is the most senior living male descendant of France’s last Bourbon king, Louis XIV.

Although the French monarchy came to a sticky end at the hands of Robespierre and later Napoleon, the Legitimists, a pro-royal faction in France, remain committed to restoring the Bourbon line to the throne.

Louis Alphonse inherited the claim via Louis XIV’s grandson, Philip V of Spain.

Born in Madrid, the banker is a great-grandson of Spanish dictator Francisco Franco via his mother, María del Carmen Martínez-Bordiú y Franco – and also a direct descendant of Queen Victoria.

According to the Legitimists, the Duke is also entitled to the French courtesy title of Prince of the Blood following his decision to take French citizenship.

Louis is the most senior living male descendant of France’s last Bourbon king, Louis XIV

Also known as Prince Napoleon, Jean-Christophe (above), 33, is the great-great-great-great-nephew of Emperor Napoleon I, and the Bonapartist pretender

Jean-Christophe Napoléon

Also known as Prince Napoleon, Jean-Christophe, 33, is the great-great-great-great-nephew of Emperor Napoleon I, and the Bonapartist pretender.

Jean is a descendant of Napoleon Bonaparte’s brother Jerôme as well as Emperor Napoleon III, the final monarch before the Third Republic properly ended monarchy in France.

Napoleon had declared himself emperor in 1804 and waged war with other European powers, conquering much of the continent.

He was finally defeated at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 and imprisoned on the remote Atlantic island of St Helena, where he died on May 5 1821.

Jean Christophe, a banker who studied at Harvard, is, in the views of some monarchists, head of the former Imperial House of France.

Through his mother, he is a descendant of King Louis XV of France – and through his great-grandmother Princess Clémentine of Belgium, he is a descendant of Louis Philippe I.

Vive la revolution: France and the monarchy

In an opinion piece published in Le Figaro last October, Jean d’Orleans criticised the French constitution, calling for ‘changes’ to the role of head of state but falling short of urging the abolition of the republic.

France overthrew its monarchy in the revolution of 1789, briefly restoring it after the fall of Napoleon.

The last French king, Louis Philippe, was toppled in 1848.

In 1792, France’s Legislative Assembly had voted to abolish the monarchy and establish the First Republic.

The decision came a year after King Louis XVI reluctantly approved a new constitution that stripped him of much of his power.

Louis ascended to the French throne in 1774. He struggled, from the outset, to cope with his country’s financial hardship.

The French Revolution had reached its first climax in 1789, exacerbated by food shortages.

In August 1792, King Louis and his queen, Mary-Antoinette, were imprisoned, and the monarchy was abolished in September that year.

In January 1793, Louis was tried for treason and condemned to death. He was beheaded, with Marie-Antoinette also guillotined nine months later.

The Second French Revolution of 1830 – also known as the July Revolution – saw the overthrow of King Charles X, the French Bourbon monarch.

This led to the ascent of his cousin Louis Philippe, Duke of Orléans, who would be overthrown 18 years later, in 1848.

Where regals dare: The life of Henri d’Orleans

The second of eleven children, Henri d’Orleans became, at 66, head of the House of Orleans in 1999.

Born on June 14, 1933 at the manor of Anjou, in Woluwé-Saint-Pierre (Belgium), Henri spent his childhood in Morocco, Spain and Portugal.

Despite the law of exile on the royal houses, the young prince was authorised by the then president, Vincent Auriol, to return to France and continue his studies there.

Henri d’Orleans, Count of Paris, with his second wife Princess Micaela in Senlis, France, in 2009. The second of eleven children, he became head of the House of Orleans in 1999 at the age of 66

After studying at the Institute of Political Science in Paris, he was an officer in the Algerian war.

He left the army in 1967 and entered the banking trade in France and Switzerland.

In 1957, he received the title of Count of Clermont and married Marie-Thérèse of Württemberg, with whom he would have five children, before separating in 1977 and obtaining a divorce in 1984.

He went on to marry Micaela Cousino Quinones de Leon that October.

Henri is pictured with his father, also called Henri, in September 1940. His father bestowed on him the title Count of Clermont – and he became heir to the right of the crown in 1996

His civil marriage to a divorced woman was frowned upon by his father as it was contrary to dynastic laws. As a result, his father disowned him.

In 1991, tensions had eased and he was reinstated as the Count of Clermont; and in 1996, he became heir to the right to the crown.

Passionate about drawing and painting, Henri d’Orléans devoted himself to his artistic activities and regularly exhibited his works since 1972. He also started in perfume with ‘Lys Bleu’, then ‘Royalissime’ (1997).

He was the father of two daughters, Marie and Blanche, and three boys, François, Jean and Eudes, Duke of Angouleme. Blanche is mentally disabled, as is François, who died at the end of 2017 at the age of 56.

Bridezilla sparks outrage with ‘aggressive’ save-the-date that demands guests ‘save their pennies’ and take two weeks off work

Despite not even knowing what country her wedding will take place in, the two page note – which has been leaked on Facebook – asks prospective guests to start budgeting for the high-flying nuptials.

Titled Things to Keep in Mind Before You Say Yes, the bride writes: "The wedding will be held in an Asian country – Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam etc.

"One of the above, we haven't decided."

Before asking each of her guests book at least "two weeks off" work (because "one week is too short"), the bride then asks that they all spend up to £2,800 on her wedding extravaganza.

Describing how their funds will be spent on "hotels, food, drink, daily adventures" and – randomly – "scooter rentals", the bride tries to reassure attendants that they "will not spend all of this".

She added: "It all depends on what kind of holiday you want."

But despite her extravagant plans, the couple have yet to actually reveal their date or destination before they've received all their RSVPs to confirm numbers.

Unsurprisingly, the "aggressive" save-the-date which asks guests to "start saving your pennies" has not gone down well with prospective attendees.

After the note was leaked on Facebook, one user wrote: "She might not even need a venue after those 'save the dates' as it might just be her and the hubby."

Another added: "These people really do not want anyone at their wedding."

Meanwhile, a third joked: "I think this is an invitation to be murdered."

However, one user claimed the bride's idea to suss out the numbers was "good in theory but they didn't execute it very well".

In more wedding news, is this the world's worst bridezilla? A woman who wanted to be a "Kardashian for a day" blames her guests for not giving her the THOUSANDS she needed to fund her dream bash.

Plus this wedding was cancelled by the groom after a cruel bridezilla reacted to her sister losing her baby with "now she can be in the wedding party".

And this bride has been slammed for asking guests to save TWO possible dates for her wedding and telling them to wear orange.

Cleaning blogger sparks outrages by saying a VACUUM is the perfect Christmas present for women

Lynsey Crombie, aka The Queen of Clean, was chatting on Good Morning Britain when she made the controversial claim.

The 39-year-old, who has 95,000 followers on Instagram, sat down on the sofa to discuss the household appliance after a vote revealed people thought it was the worst gift to receive.

She said: “It's the perfect Christmas present.

“Especially with modern day life, we're all so busy we don't get to choose the right pieces of equipment for our home so we'll just grab something quick.

“You need to think about these purchases, they're quite high end now.

“It's a massive status symbol about what sort of vacuum you have in your kitchen.

“It's the dinner party conversation, it's not about the car on the drive.”

She called it an “amazing present”, but she was slammed by GMB’s guest, journalist Rebecca Reid, who asked if she was “joking”.

She said: “I’m sorry that is actually one of the most offensive things I’ve heard in a really long time.

“A hoover is a family necessity. To suggest that a woman should be getting a cleaning product for Christmas.”

But Lynsey continued to fight her corner, saying: “I do get excited about a vacuum and so many people do.

“I am getting messages from husbands at the moment saying ''I want to buy my wife a vacuum for Christmas, what shall I buy her?''.

“Imagine getting that top vacuum cleaner under your tree, just imagine the smile on your face on Christmas morning.”

Big Brother winner Josie Gibson agreed with Rebecca, saying she would be “insulted" to receive a vacuum cleaner for Christmas.

She said: “If my chap gave me a hoover for Christmas there'd be two new balls on my Christmas tree that used to belong to him.

“They call it the dirty work, don't they? That's the housework, the dirty work.

British Gas sparks fury by launching a legal challenge to Theresa May’s energy price cap

The energy supplier wrote to energy regulator Ofgem to demand it change the way wholesale prices used for the cap are calculated.

A source close to Ofgem said it was notified of the decision late on Thursday.

The energy price cap is due to come on New Year’s Day and limit the price on millions of standard variable tariffs (SVTs) to £1,137 a year.

The cap is £68 lower than the current British Gas standard rate for gas and electricity.

Centrica- British Gas’ owner – insisted it did not want to delay the cap’s start date and that the case would likely not be heard before the cap comes into effect on January 1.

But it argued the tariff should be implemented in a “fair and workable way”.

The incredible move comes after a two year campaign by The Sun and watchdogs to end a £2 billion a year energy price rip-off.

Business Secretary Greg Clark accused the Big Six of “milking” loyal customers who stuck on standard tariffs as they believe the company was looking after them.

Instead companies admitted they used the extra profit from SVR’s to finance cut price internet only deals.

Centrica is arguing that Ofgem is wrong to base its cap price on wholesale prices for the period February to July instead of April to September as planned.

One source claimed the switch appeared to have been done to avoid raising the cap price.

Energy Minister Claire Perry in July warned the Big Six they would shatter their reputations for good if they launched a legal review to delay the cap. At the time she told The Sun she feared energy companies were “gearing up” for a challenge.

BBC boss sparks outrage after claiming viewers ‘love repeats’

BBC boss sparks outrage after claiming viewers ‘love repeats’ at Christmas – as it emerges almost two-thirds of festive content on BBC 1 and 2 has been aired before

  • BBC boss Kate Phillips has sparked outrage by claiming viewers ‘love repeats’
  • 59% of it’s festive output is not original and instead re-runs of classic sitcoms
  • ‘People love a bit of repeats because actually Christmas is all about tradition’
  • Repeats up 9% from 2017, on BBC2, 73% of the Christmas schedule seen before

A BBC boss has sparked outrage by claiming viewers ‘love repeats’ as it emerged more than half of BBC1 and BBC2’s scheduled Christmas content has aired before.

Kate Phillips was defending the Beeb, after it was revealed some 59 percent of it’s festive output is not original and instead re-runs of classic sitcoms such as Dad’s Army and The Vicar of Dibley.

She said: ‘We do show repeats but we find that people love a bit of repeats because actually Christmas is all about tradition and family traditions, and when you go back home you do a lot of things the same way.’

A BBC boss has sparked outrage by claiming viewers ‘love repeats’ as it emerged more than half of BBC1 and BBC2’s scheduled Christmas content has aired before

‘When you go back home you do a lot of things the same way. You hate it if your parents change something.

‘When I heard that BBC Two were showing The Good Life Christmas special again I was cockahoop, because Margo Leadbetter with The Times paper hat on her head doing a homemade cracker is a great moment and you want to see it again and again.’

The controller of entertainment commissioning added that with some classic moments ‘you want to see it again and again’.

Kate Phillips was defending the BBC, after it was revealed 59 percent of it’s festive output is not original and instead re-runs of classic sitcoms such as Dad’s Army and The Vicar of Dibley

BBC repeats are up nine percent from last year’s 50 percent. While on BBC2, 73 percent of the Christmas schedule has been seen before.

Labour’s Jo Stevens, who sits on the Commons Digital, Culture Media and Sport Select Committee, said: ‘It’s disappointing to hear that yet again this Christmas, BBC schedules will be full of repeat programmes.

‘Licence-fee payers expect more, and if audiences are served up old programmes again and again, they will look to other channels for Christmas entertainment and won’t come back to the BBC. It’s self-defeating.’

BBC repeats are up nine percent from last year’s 50 percent. While on BBC2, 73 percent of the Christmas schedule has been seen before, including re-runs of the 1971 classic Dad’s Army

Chief of the TaxPayers’ Alliance John O’Connell also told the paper: ‘No one minds a re-run of a classic film or an episode of Only Fools and Horses, but when there is so little original content at this time of year, licence fee payers might be feeling a bit short changed over the festive period.’

A BBC spokesperson added: ‘More than 90 percent of of BBC One’s peak time schedule is new this year. Viewers love a few old favourites at Christmas as well.’

An unknown person set up an open Facebook event for a party at the girl’s address this Friday, named Project X Katwijk after the American comedy film about a houseparty that gets out of hand.

By the time the Facebook event was shut down, it had 8,000 attendees and 20,000 ‘interested’ before it was shut down, Gerlander.nl reports

The viral party invitation prompted the teenager to go into hiding, her uncle told a Dutch radio station.

Mayor Wim Hillenaar  said in a statement: ‘Our line is: there is no party in Katwijk and there will be no party in Katwijk.

‘I speak on behalf of the community of Cuijk – and in particular the troubled residents of the parish of Katwijk – when I say that our commitment is and remains to ensure that people from outside Cuijk, who come on Friday with wrong intentions, are stopped. ‘

Outrage over ‘horrific’ images disguised as Christmas cards

Anti-abortionist sparks outrage after posting ‘horrific’ images of unborn fetuses disguised as Christmas cards through residents’ letterboxes

  • ‘Cards’ delivered across Kent spark fury as they slam ‘devil’ abortions
  •  They claim it is impossible to be pro-choice and celebrate Christmas
  •  Violin teacher Karen Jolliffe said she was ‘horrified’ when she got the post

Residents have been left outraged after an anti-abortionist posted ‘horrific’ images of unborn fetuses through their letterboxes – disguised as Christmas cards.

Disgusted residents have called police after dozens of the double-sided leaflets were delivered in Canterbury, Kent.

The flyers, which are enclosed in brown envelopes addressed to ‘The Resident’ read, ‘you cannot celebrate Christmas and support abortion’.

Shocked violin teacher Karen Jolliffe received the post yesterday.

She said: ‘I was absolutely horrified to open up the envelope.

‘People will probably think it is a Christmas card, but when they open it up they’ll be met with that terrible content.’

It is not yet known who or what group the graphic post if from.

Text on the flyer reads: ‘This Christmas, as you spare a thought for the baby in the crib, spare a thought for all babies in the womb that they might be born, as God intends; and not butchered, as the Devil intends’.

Residents are fuming after an anti-abortionist has posted ‘horrific’ images on cards disguised as festive greetings

It goes on to state that ‘an average of 200,000 babies are slaughtered in the womb each year in Britain, through abortion.’

Miss Joliffe, who lives in the city centre, added: ‘Everyone has a right to their personal beliefs but posting such content through front doors is not on.’

She has now contacted the police regarding the post.

Carole Orby said on Facebook: ‘Imagine a young child seeing this come through the letterbox and getting all excited because they can see a picture of baby Jesus.

‘Then, the poor little thing sees the graphic pictures, how traumatising could this be?!?

The disturbing flyers sent around Kent read: ‘You cannot celebrate Christmas and support abortion’

‘I am disgusted that they misrepresent all the love ly Christian people out there who would not want to be associated with anything as low as this.’

Laura Pearson posted: ‘That’s pretty sick putting those through letterboxes.. What if a child sees it? Or someone who’s had to have an abortion?

‘Most people don’t want to see whatever those images are. Don’t judge people, people have their reasons and choices for abortion, and these nasty leaflets are sick.’

Blood spill sparks calls for WNBL referees to lift their standard

The blood pouring out of Kelsey Griffin's scalp has put the WNBL on notice as growing discontent about the inconsistency of referees threatens to reach crisis point.

Griffin was busted open and required stitches to sew the split back up after she copped an elbow from frustrated Perth Lynx import Asia Taylor in their close loss on Friday night.

Canberra Capitals star Kelsey Griffin was busted open by an elbow from Asia Taylor in the WNBL.

The WNBL is investigating the incident and Capitals coach Paul Goriss will give Griffin every chance to prove her fitness ahead of the second leg of a road trip against the Adelaide Lightning on Sunday.

But stitches couldn't cover the blood-stained jersey that has left Leilani Mitchell questioning whether referees are being held accountable after the foul on the play was called against Griffin.

"I don’t know if there is any standard to be honest, and I’m not trying to be rude or criticise the WNBL because obviously I love being a part of it," Mitchell said.

"It’s frustrating when people get hurt, and secondly it’s just the inconsistency, I don’t know if there is anyone that holds them accountable. It just seems like game to game it’s always different things for fouls.

"In the play with Kelsey, the referee that made the call was up at the top on the other side, and you couldn’t even see the other two referees in the actual play. They were nowhere to be seen.

"To me, those type of things are unacceptable. That’s why calls are missed, because they are first and foremost, not even in the proper position to see the play and make the right call."

Griffin is the second Capitals star in a matter of weeks to be on the wrong end of foul play after Canadian import Kia Nurse was left with a bruised sternum following a collision with Rachel Jarry.

Nurse was left on pain medication and was forced to miss training sessions due to the controversial off-the-play effort that earned Jarry a fine from the WNBL.

Canberra Capitals star Kelsey Griffin was busted open by an elbow from Asia Taylor in the WNBL.

It is the second time in as many games in Perth that Griffin has been rubbed out of the game by her opposition, and she has called on the WNBL to enforce "harsher penalties" or risk further injuries.

"If the penalty isn’t severe enough, then people will just keep doing things like that which is really unfortunate," Griffin said.

"It’s not every game I go out worrying that something is going to happen. There needs to be consequences to make people think about whether they should be that physical in the game.

"I didn’t feel [the cut] to be honest, I was so caught up in the moment. It was until Kia came over and grabbed my head and showed the ref. I was like ‘what is she talking about?’

"Then as I was walking off the court I saw dots of blood. Then all of a sudden I looked down and my numbers were almost red.

"It’s the second time now playing in Perth that I have been taken out of the game, not because I was tired or needed a sub, but because physicality forcibly removed me."

Naked ‘gypsy’ sparks outrage by saying it’s her ‘job’ as a woman to show her boyfriend ‘beautiful things’

Sally Mustang, who has 294k followers on Instagram, shared a naked snap of her and her boyfriend, Mitch Gobel, in bed.

The Byron Bay-based couple rose to fame a few years ago by sharing risqué posts talking in depth about their sex life, alongside snaps of their arty lifestyle.

But one picture in particular has angered people.

Surrounded by flowers, Sally captioned the post: “I promise to show you incredibly beautiful things @mitch.gobel #myjobasawoman.”

The pic has racked up more than 13,000 likes, and a lot of very opinionated comments.

Her followers are divided, with some criticising Sally for talking about her ‘job’ as a women, while others praised her.

One person commented: “The hashtag on this used to be "my only job as woman", like thanks for keeping the patriarchy alive sis I have a few extra things I wanna do in my life besides pleasing a male.”

Another wrote: “I thought sally was way more of a feminist this this.

“Woman are so much more than beauty.. they have a million jobs. Not just to look beautiful.”

A third person said: “It might be Sally’s job and that’s cool.

"But I choose not to see it as mine, or at the very least as my only ‘job’.

“Perhaps job implies ‘duty’ and that’s why there are so many polarising comments here.”

Some people supported her, saying: “Everyone is entitled to their interpretation of womanhood.

“What may work for you will be different for someone else, as none of us are the same and that’s what makes us beautiful.”

But the comments soon descended into infighting, with one person writing: “She’s not part of the problem.

“Women like you, giving s**t to other women are the problem!”

The couple are no stranger to controversy, posting intimate details about their sex life online.

Mitch’s mantra is ‘sex is art’, which he regularly posts about with his 213k followers, and they have set up a website of the same name to share their sex stories.

In one very raunchy post, where Sally can be seen tied up wearing nothing but stockings.

Mitch said: “This is what #sexisart is about for @sallymustang and I, we want posts like this one to encourage conversation, sex, love.

Jordin Sparks Thinks Her Breast Milk Dried Up Because Of Gum

Jordin Sparks, who gave birth her son, Dana Jr. “DJ” in May, was not prepared for the postpartum experience.

“One thing I wish somebody would have told me is OK, your hormones are being rebalanced. Your hair is gonna start to fall out,” the pop singer, 28, told Us Weekly exclusively. Sparks also had no idea how difficult it would be to maintain breast milk production.

“Don’t have any peppermint gum or the next day, you won’t have any milk. It dries you up. I had no idea,” the American Idol season 6 winner warned. “It was was the craziest thing.” (Sparks was able to restore her supply, but according to Kelly Bonyata, an international board certified lactation consultant, some women claim large amounts of strong mints such as Altoids will diminish production.)

Sparks, who teamed up with Febreze to launch their #FebrezeYourGear campaign, also found herself crying a lot in the early days of motherhood. “I didn’t have postpartum depression, but I did kind of have the baby blues for about two weeks,” she told Us. “I cried at everything.”

The Arizona native shares 6-month-old DJ with her husband of over a year, Dana Isaiah. Becoming parents has only brought the couple closer together.

“We love each other even more,” the star gushed to Us. “It was a learning curve in the first couple months because we were so tired. We were like zombies … But it’s really strengthened us. Like I loved him so much before, but now, seeing how he is with our son, it’s the most amazing thing.”

As for DJ, the infant amazes his mother every day. “He’s pulling himself up already,” Sparks raved. “And he’s babbling. I’m pretty sure he’s gonna be talking soon. I’m just like, ‘Wait a second. We have to baby-proof the house still. It went by so fast.”

Hurricane Willa sparks evacuation of 10,000 people as Brit tourists told to take cover from ‘extremely dangerous’ 150mph winds

The Category 4 storm is set to slam into holiday hotspots like Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlan later today.

Those in its path have been warned the raging tempest will bring colossal waves, 150mph winds, possible flash floods and even waterspouts – also known as sea tornadoes.

And authorities are taking no chances, urging thousands to flee before it’s too late.

Antonio Echevarria, governor of Nayarit, said more than 10,000 people were being evacuated and schools would be closed.

He said: "Let's not play the macho. Let's not act like superheroes. It's a very strong hurricane, very potent, and we don't want any tragedies."

A decree of "extraordinary emergency" was issued for 19 municipalities in Nayarit and Sinaloa states, the federal Interior Department announced.

Among the areas expected to be worst hit is Puerto Vallarta, where hotels near the resort’s famous sandy beaches have been ordered to get guests to safety.

Mayor Arturo Dávalos told Vallarta Daily: “We’re asking the hotels that are in the tourist strip to evacuate tourists and staff from now on to avoid some misfortune.”

Bars and restaurants in the area are closing and all activities and excursions are being cancelled.

Businesses have also been asked to remove sunbeds, umbrellas and other objects from beach to stop them becoming deadly “projectiles” in the powerful winds, the website reported.

Several other tourist getaways in Nayarit also lie near the path of the storm, which is forecast to bring a "life-threatening storm surge, wind and rainfall," the NHC said.

Elsewhere, in Mazatlan, staff boarded up hotels facing the historic downtown boardwalk.

Forecast to be one of the most powerful hurricanes to enter Mexico from the Pacific in recent years, Willa is expected to strike just a few miles south of the city.

At a petrol station on the outskirts, a steady line of cars have been queuing up to refuel and pick up supplies at the neighbouring shop.

Station attendant Zulema Pardo said residents had been streaming through for hours to stock up on basic items, buying enormous jugs of water and fuel, and leaving the bread shelf completely empty.

She said: "People are really scared. People are crazy and worked up."

Late on Monday the storm was advancing about 80 miles west of the Marias islands opposite Nayarit in Sinaloa, according to the Miami-based National Hurricane Centre (NHC).

Willa was blowing maximum sustained winds of near 150 miles per hour on Monday night, the hurricane centre said.

Up to 18ins of rainfall could pummel the storm zone, the centre added.

Even buildings up to 1,640ft from the coastline could lose power and suffer physical damage, Mexico's National Meteorological Service warned.

Killer clown sparks terror by tapping on doors and peering through windows late at night

The prankster dressed in the clown costume is terrifying locals in Market Rasen, Lincolnshire.

People say they are dreading the clown walking up their path or jumping out on them from the shadows.

Laura Bailey, 34, from the town has a clown phobia.

She said: "I have been terrified of clowns since I was a little girl and if he appears on my doorstep I will probably faint and have a nervous breakdown.

"Who is he and why is he doing this? He must be getting some sort of kick out of it but it's an evil thing to be doing.

"I hate clowns – I can't even look at pictures of them."

The mystery man was out last night lurking around Market Rasen.

Several people took to social media to tell of their fear after he tapped on their windows and knocked on doors.

They peered out to see him grinning evilly in a scary clown outfit.

One woman in Waterloo Street, who asked not to be named in case he returns, said it has left her petrified.

"I was sat here at home and somebody knocked on my window" she said.

"I looked out and there was someone in a clown mask.

"I was scared silly – I am petrified of clowns. They're something I have never liked."

Another woman, Sophie Clark, 23, said she's now terrified to walk home after a friend called to let her know the clown was jumping out on people.

She'd just finished her shift as a waitress at the White Swan when her friend made the call to let her know the man had been prowling in Queen Street.

She said: "My mate rang saying someone is running around in a clown mask jumping out on people.

"I had to walk home on my own and I wasn't looking forward to it.

"I don't know who it is, but it is ridiculous.

"I am not bothered about clowns so much, it is more the thought of people jumping out gone ten at night, which isn't nice for young lasses walking around at this time."

The 'killer clown' craze began in October 2016 when pranksters began taking to the streets in clown costumes yielding weapons.

Dozens of towns were affected by the craze which terrorised locals.

The epidemic appears to be returning this year as creepy clowns pop up in towns across the UK.

Police fear the sightings will increase in the lead up to Halloween at the end of the month.

Clown costumes became a popular Halloween costume after Stephen King's novel It was published in 1986.

The recent film adaptation of the novel has revived the popularity and sparked the trend of dressing up as a 'killer clown', or Pennywise.

Police say they take reports of terrorising clowns "very seriously" and all cases should be reported.

To report an incident, people should contact 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111. In an emergency, ring 999.

Heidi Klum sparks rumours she's ENGAGED to toyboy Tom Kaulitz after showing off enormous diamond ring at 70th Emmy Awards

The 45-year-old supermodel revealed the enormous sparkler as she cuddled up to her toyboy boyfriend, Tom Kaulitz, 28, on the gold carpet.

Heidi beamed as she posed in a stunning, figure hugging dress but all eyes were on the large piece of jewellery on her left hand.

But Heidi, who topped the best dressed lists on the night, was quick to shut down any rumours and told ET Canada Tom had not popped the question in secret.

When asked about the ring, she quipped: “No! All these are just borrowed.

“They go with that necklace beautifully.”

“Don’t read into anything. They’re just pretty rings.”

The America’s Got Talent judge is smitten with Tom and recently said she'd never been happier.

However she admitted dating Tom, who is 17 years her junior, has led to a lot of questions about her age.

She told InStyle: “Lately, I'm being reminded more about my age by people other than myself.

“My boyfriend is many years younger than me, and lots of people are questioning that and asking about it.

“That's really the only time when age seems to be shoved in my face and I have to give an answer for it.

“I don't really think about it that much otherwise. You have to just live a happy life without worrying too much about what people think because worrying is only going to give you more wrinkles.”

Heidi and Tom got together following her split with art dealer Vito Schnabel after three years together.

She shares four children, Leni, 14, Henry, 12, Johan, 11, and eight-year-old Lou, with her ex-husband Seal.

Liam Payne sparks One Direction reunion rumours as he's spotted carrying artwork after dinner with the band's main songwriter

The singer, who recently announced his split from Cheryl and is now seeing Cairo Dwek, is giving 1D fans one last glimmer of hope that the boy band might indeed reunite, almost three years after they went on a hiatus.

The 25-year-old was seen leaving his office and carrying band artwork of the original members of the musical group.

The sentimental canvas even included Zayn Malik, who left back in March 2015.

Further fuelling reunion rumours, the dad-of-one was also spotted having dinner with songwriter Savan Kotecha, who was one of the masterminds behind One Direction.

The music professional was the main songwriter in the some of band's biggest hits, including "What makes you beautiful" and "Take me home".

The reunion hype has got even bigger after Liam shared a special throwback post on his Instagram page.

Alongside an old snap of the five boys looking very young, he wrote "1000 days" – marking the time since they have decided to go their separate ways.

Despite Liam's hints, there's no official word about a One Direction reunion as the lads continue to pursue successful solo careers.

While Harry has recently finished a world tour, following the launch of his first album, Zayn and Liam have been enjoying the success of songs like "Dusk till Dawn" and "Familiar".

Louis Tomlinson is currently keeping busy as he starts his first stint as an X Factor judge, and Niall Horan also launched his solo album "Flicker".

But while the boys have remained tight-lipped when it comes to what the future holds for them, Simon Cowell thinks a reunion is definitely on the cards.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Cowell said last month: “I just think the legacy is too big not to go back to at one point. Plus they have enough songs.

“I didn't realise how many hits they've had, when they do get back together it will be a huge event.

“But look, they're all doing their own thing and they're all being successful. But I have a feeling it will happen. I really do. I'd love it to happen."

Liam's 1D hint comes after his 18-month-old son was pictured for the first time with mum Cheryl.

The singer was snapped taking her young son to the home of former Girls Aloud bandmate Kimberley Walsh for a birthday party.
