The truth about Jimmy Kimmel’s wife Molly McNearney

Jimmy Kimmel is an American television host and comedian who has become a common household name due to his TV show, Jimmy Kimmel, Live! Kimmel is known to have success on his show as well as in radio and as a voice actor in multiple animated films and shows.

Known for his hilarious pranks on children, Kimmel himself has four children, two of which are with current wife, Molly McNearney. But who exactly is Molly McNearney?

McNearney and Kimmel have been together for 10 years. The two met on his show when McNearney started as a writer’s assistant. Although Kimmel is very public in other aspects of his life, he doesn’t talk much about his relationship with his wife. Recently, McNearny opened up about their relationship and told Glamour what her first impression of Kimmel was.

“When I first met him, he insulted me!” she said. “The executive producer brought me into his office and said, ‘This is Molly; she’s my new assistant.’ Jimmy barely looked up from his desk until my EP said, ‘She competes in triathlons,’ and then Jimmy looked up at me and said, ‘That is really stupid! What a waste of time.’ That was the first and only thing he probably said to me the entire first year of working there.”

The two later became friends, and things changed in 2009 when they started dating — and three years later, Kimmel proposed. But aside from being Kimmel’s wife, who is Molly McNearney?

Molly McNearney is a writer and producer

McNearney is a writer and producer who not only assisted with the 68th Primetime Emmys and worked on Big Night of Stars, but co-writes her husband’s show Jimmy Kimmel, Live! (via Cheatsheet). McNearney shared that at first she was hesitant to date her boss, but later gave in after Kimmel’s persistence.

In her interview with Glamour, she revealed she does her best to keep their work and personal lives separate, including getting to the office separately.

“At 10 a.m. he’s my boss, not my husband,” she said. “He does say he’s my ‘husboss,’ but I refuse to call him that.”

Molly McNearney is an activist

McNearney is more than just a writer, she is also a human rights activist known for advocating for children’s healthcare. Her activism sparked when her second child with Kimmel was born with a congenital heart defect in 2017.

Both she and Kimmel decided instead of keeping quiet about the situation, they would discuss their son Billy’s condition on the ABC late-night show. At the time, the Affordable Care Act was on the verge of congressional repeal and the two thought this would be a great opportunity to discuss access to health care, as well as explain Kimmel’s week-long absence (via the Hollywood Reporter). McNearney was still on maternity leave but watched the show at home and sobbed through the entire segment.

“I couldn’t believe the strength that it took to tell that story a week after it happened,” she said. “He didn’t have to do that. Our family has excellent health care; he had nothing to gain from that. He did it for the other people whom we met in that hospital. He came home that night, and I just hugged him and I wouldn’t let go.”

McNearney and Kimmel seem to have a very strong relationship and continue to support healthcare advocacy through their individual social media accounts. According to Cheatsheet, the couple holds strong in family values and McNearney maintains a healthy relationship with not only her stepchildren, but Kimmel’s exes as well.

First Look at Angelina Jolie and ‘The Eternals’ Co-Stars in Armors Revealed

Photos of the actress, who plays Thena, and fellow cast members Gemma Chan as well as Brian Tyree Henry surface after reports of a bomb scare on the set of the Marvel movie.

AceShowbiz -First look at Angelina Jolie and her “The Eternals” co-stars, Gemma Chan and Brian Tyree Henry, in their superhero suits have surfaced online. The actors were spotted in characters they continued filming the Marvel movie on Tuesday, November 5.

The pictures, obtained by Daily Mail, were taken during the shooting on the beach set. Though blurry, they still reveal Jolie in Thena’s golden armor while she also sported a blonde wig. Chan donned a green suit as Sersi, while Henry wore a purple suit as Phastos.

The threesome appeared to be filming a scene in which they show their super powers. They made movement with their hands as if to control something invisible, while standing in between what looked like parts of a sunken spaceship.

Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan and Brian Tyree Henry are spotted donning their superhero characters’ costumes on ‘The Eternals’ set.

The photos emerged after it was reported that Jolie and Richard Madden were evacuated from the set on the Canary Island of Fuerteventura due to a bomb scare. An unexploded bomb was found on the island and everyone was ordered back to a safe distance.

“It was obviously terrifying – the bomb could have been there for decades untouched but who knows what might have happened if it was disturbed,” a set insider told The Sun. “Some of the biggest stars in the world were on set and nobody was taking any chances. Fortunately, experts dealt with it.” It’s believed that the bomb dates from World War II, when the Nazis had a base on the island.

Madden, who was not spotted during the filming with Jolie, Chan and Henry, portrays Ikaris. Other stars in the movie include Salma Hayek, Kit Harington, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff and Don Lee a.k.a. Ma Dong Seok.

Based on Marvel comic created by Jack Kirby in 1976, “The Eternals” is about near-immortal beings the Eternals and their more gargantuan antagonists the Deviants, who were created by the cosmic beings called Celestials. The Celestials experimented on humans creating both races of immortal spinoffs.

Chloe Zhao serves behind the lens, with the script written by Matthew K. Firpo and Ryan Firpo. The movie is slated for a November 6, 2020 release in the United States.

In the court of public opinion, that’s a double fault, Margaret

Margaret Court has asked for the same level of celebration as was afforded to Rod Laver.Credit:Getty

If only they could make me the Media and Communications Director of Tennis Australia for a day, this is the letter I would send:

Dear Mrs Court,

On behalf of Tennis Australia, I note with interest your recent comments concerning the approach of the 50th anniversary of your Grand Slam, and your desire that you be accorded the same kind of public celebration we gave to Rod Laver for his own recent 50th anniversary, to wit: “They brought Rod in from America. If they think I’m just going to turn up, I don’t think that is right. I think I should be invited. I would hope they would pay my way to come like they paid for his, and honour me. If they are not going to do that, I don’t really want to come.”

You went on:  “I think Tennis Australia should sit and talk with me. They have never phoned me. Nobody has spoken to me directly about it. I think they would rather not confront it.”

Mrs Court this is a rather difficult situation, as you will appreciate. Once again, we congratulate you on your many tennis achievements – more indeed, than any female player, ever. But we are, frankly, bemused by any suggestion that we haven’t honoured you. You’d surely agree the “Margaret Court Arena” is an extraordinary honour? And you would agree that our resistance – so far – against all calls to change the name because of your intensely unpleasant homophobic remarks, is a sign of our enduring good will?

Which brings us to the most delicate part of all . . .

You will recall a couple of years ago citing the bible as you proclaimed that the only legitimate love is that between a man and a woman. Your starting point was that when it comes to the LGBT+ community, we are not all equal beneath the Southern Cross, because they are the work of “the devil’’. This not only trashed the gays among your followers, it trashed you among our many followers, and it meant that honouring a homophobic zealot became problematic for us. For after you assert those with a different sexuality to you are not your equal, it is frankly a bit much for you to say you want equal treatment to Rod Laver, who has never brought anything but honour to the game and his name. At Tennis Australia, we have no religious views whatsoever, and welcome everyone. Nevertheless, seeing as the bible seems to be the only reference point you recognise, in the face of your loud attacks on us I feel I must cite St Paul’s advice in 1 Timothy 2:12, where the great saint says: “I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, she must be silent.”

Or Ephesians 5:22: “Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.”

Or 1 Corinthians 11:3-10: “The head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man . . . For man did not come from woman, but woman from man. Neither was man created for women, but women for man.”

Margaret Court and Rod Laver.Credit:AP, Shaughn and John

I trust you see our point? At Tennis Australia, we believe in equality and inclusion. For us to publicly honour those who trash those values is problematic. And for you to ask for equal honouring to Rod Laver, when it goes against the teachings of the very bible you use to trash gays is . . . a bit much, frankly. And yes, I realise you may find it hard when people criticise you and ignore your achievements in tennis simply because they don’t like the views you have chosen to express. But that might be how the gays feel, when you discount and criticise them, simply because of the sexuality they were born with? The alternative to having no tolerance for intolerance is to tolerate it, in which case nothing would change. And we are changing, in tune with the world.

Nevertheless, we offer our regards, regardless,

Peter FitzSimons
Tennis Australia Media Director

Boks of kicks

“There are only three kinds of people in this world,” so the old saying goes. “Those who make it happen, those who watch it happen, and those who say ‘What the f**k just happened?’”

Last Saturday evening in Yokohoma for the final of the Rugby World Cup, those spots were filled, in order, by: 1. The Springboks; 2. The rugby public around the world; 3. The English team.
And yet, despite the fact that I am firmly in Camp 2, I still want a piece of the reaction of Camp 3.
How did England falter so badly? Where the hell was the team from the week before that completely decimated the once mighty All Blacks, who had themselves belted South Africa three weeks before that?

I mean, I always knew that England would struggle a little because of the powers of my Kiss of Death, and I acknowledged as much in my column:
“England,” I wrote, “is so strong, soooooooo strong I tell you, that they will even survive my Kiss of Death, and romp home . . . my pick might not knock ten or a dozen points off them, but there will still be plenty of points left over to best the Boks by as many.”

Ash Barty capped an incredible season with a big win at the WTA finals in Shenzhen.Credit:Getty Images

Team of the Week

Matildas  In a move that made headlines and led sports bulletins around the world, they are now on the same pay deal as Socceroos.

Ash Barty  They don’t call her “Cash” Barty for nothing! Won $US 11,307,587 in this last season, second only to the $US 12.3 million of Serena Williams in 2013, and the $US 4.42 million she won last weekend was the largest tennis prize in history. And though just 23, she is now 24th on the list for most money earned in a career by a female player, ahead of such names as Seles, Capriati, Evert, and Sabatini and surpasses male players such as Rafter, Courier and Safin.

Alyssa Healy and Ellyse Perry  Combined for an unbeaten 199 runs, a world record partnership in any major women’s domestic Twenty20 competition. Tonga. Their victory over the Kangaroos last Saturday means they have beaten Australia, Great Britain and New Zealand in the last two years, giving league a much need fourth contender for what is otherwise a farce of international competition.

South Africa Have now won the Rugby World Cup three times – equal to the All Blacks – a feat all the more impressive for the fact that they did not participate in the first two World Cups in 1987 and 1991.

Melbourne Cup  Shed 750,000 viewers in comparison to last year as #NupToTheCup took off on social media, and they had the lowest number of attendees in the last quarter-century. It happened in the same week that the Dapto Dogs – wonderfully – announced it was closing down, even if that decision is now in legal dispute.

The term 'Anglo-Saxon' should be DROPPED from speech, says scholar

Irish academic calls for the term ‘Anglo-Saxon’ to be DROPPED from modern speech because it has ‘links with white supremacists’

  • Academic says ‘Anglo-Saxon’ is used by white supremacists and calls for a ban
  • Mary Rambaran-Olm said people in early England did not use term themselves
  • She says that previous objections to the term Dark Ages sets a precedent

Dr Mary Rambaran-Olm said the term ‘Anglo-Saxon’ is used by white supremacists and should be banned

The term Anglo-Saxon is ‘bound up with white supremacy’ and should be replaced with ‘early English’, academics have argued.

Anglo-Saxon traditionally refers to groups from Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands who settled in Britain at the end of Roman rule.

However, early medieval England specialist Mary Rambaran-Olm, an independent scholar and author, claimed the term is used by white supremacists to refer to white British people and should be banned.

The academic – raised in Canada and now based in Ireland – says previous objections to the term Dark Ages sets a precedent.

She told The Times: ‘Generally, white supremacists use the term to make some sort of connection to their heritage (which is inaccurate) or to make associations with ‘whiteness’ but they also habitually misuse it to try and connect themselves to a warrior past.’

Miss Rambaran-Olm said people in early England – or ‘Englelond’ – did not call themselves Anglo-Saxons but tended to refer to themselves as ‘Englisc’ or ‘Anglecynn’.

The academic said the term became more popular in the 18th and 19th century and was used to link white people to their ‘supposed origins’.

Hitler wrote of the ‘Anglo-Saxon determination’ to hold India, while imperialist Cecil Rhodes also regularly used the term.

John Overholt, curator of early books and manuscripts at Harvard’s Houghton Library, backed a ban on the term.

Re-enactment performers are pictured above next to Clifford’s Tower in York. The term Anglo-Saxon is ‘bound up with white supremacy’ and should be ditched, academics have argued. It should instead be replaced with ‘early English’, they said [File photo]

‘The term Anglo-Saxon is inextricably bound up with pseudohistorical accounts of white supremacy, and gives aid and comfort to contemporary white supremacists,’ he wrote on Twitter. ‘Scholars of medieval history must abandon it.’

Earlier this year the International Society of Anglo Saxonists took a poll of its 600 members, and 60 per cent of the group agreed to remove the reference to ‘Anglo-Saxon’ from its name.

But Tom Holland, author of books including Athelstan: The Making of England, said the term was ‘inextricably bound up with the claim by Alfred … to rule as a shared Anglian-Saxon identity’.

‘Scholars must be free to use it,’ he said.

In a tweet, he wrote of the idea to ditch the term Anglo-Saxon: ‘Mad as a bag of ferrets, as they say in Deira [a former kingdom].’

The Weirdest Things Newborns Do — Including Fake Diarrhea

Bringing home a newborn baby is one of the most exciting things you’ll ever do. And, as you’ll quickly find out, it’s also one of the scariest things you’ll ever do, especially when you’re an inexperienced new mom. The truth is is that while newborns are adorable tiny humans who smell wonderful and sleep the majority of the time, they can also do some really strange things that you might not be expecting to encounter.

You might be ready for the middle-of-the-night feedings, the constant dirty diapers, and the never-ending spit-up, but there are plenty of other odd things newborns do that can leave you feeling flustered at best and panicked and scared at worst. It’s not unusual to feel the urge to call your pediatrician when experiencing some of these newborn quirks, but it’s also important to remember that many of the weird things babies do are actually completely normal and probably even harmless.

In other words: There may not be any reason to feel alarmed if you experience the below. Of course, you should always give your pediatrician a call if you think something is really wrong, but if your baby is doing any of the below things, rest assured knowing it’s par for the course.

They can stop breathing for up to 10 seconds at a time.

Ten seconds doesn’t seem like a lot of time until you’re anxiously waiting for your baby to take their next breath. If you notice small lapses in breathing like this, you aren’t alone. Miami-based pediatrician Dr. Gary Kramer says this is nothing to stress over, explaining, “Newborns may breathe erratically in the first months of life, alternating between slow and fast breathing and even having periods up to 10 seconds during which they do not breathe.”

You may also notice that they’re breathing this way at night, while they’re in a deep sleep. Fortunately, it won’t last long. Dr. Kramer says, “This is part of normal development referred to as ‘periodic breathing,’ and is entirely normal. They will eventually grow out of this.”

They sleep with their eyes open.

It can be alarming to glance over at your peacefully sleeping baby, only to realize their eyes are open. But don’t worry: this isn’t a sign of a sleep disorder or anything more serious. It’s just the way newborns sleep (as it turns out, the phrase “sleeping like a baby” doesn’t exactly mean a restful sleep). “Newborns cycle through sleep different than older infants do,” says Carrie Bruno, RN, IBCLC, and founder and CEO of The Mama Coach. “Because their brains are developing at a rapid pace, they spend 50% of their sleeping hours in something called ‘active sleep.’”

According to Bruno, active sleep means newborns will appear pretty restless, kicking and grunting without waking themselves up. That’s also the reason they can sleep with their eyes open. While it might be creepy, it’s also necessary. Bruno says, “Active sleep is frequent and important in newborn sleep as it stimulates regions in the brain that contribute to learning.”

They can spit up out of their nose and appear to be choking when they’re not.

Every parent’s worst nightmare is their baby choking. Sometimes, newborns can seem like they’re choking even if they’re perfectly fine, which just seems like a cruel trick of nature. If you notice them gagging with spit-up coming out of their nose, you don’t need to panic right away. Dr. Kramer says, “This is entirely normal, as the nasopharyngeal is one passageway. Infants do not have a way of regulating where the emesis will go. This does not mean that they are choking.”

It should also comfort you to know that it’s actually difficult for healthy newborns to choke. “Parents are worried that babies will aspirate, but the likelihood of that happening in a neurologically normal baby is rare due to the fact that the gag reflex will protect against that,” says Dr. Kramer. If your baby’s complexion is red or pink, that’s a good sign – you should worry if their complexion is white or blue.

They sneeze all the time.

If you notice your baby is sneezing quite often, don’t automatically assume that they picked up a cold in their first few weeks. It’s actually just something infants do. “They breathe through their noses and their nasal passages are so small, you will hear all sorts of snorting and congested sounds,” says Dr. Alison Mitzner, MD, board-certified pediatrician. So don’t worry: your sneezing and stuffy baby is almost definitely perfectly healthy.

They startle often.

Spend a few minutes watching your little one sleep without a swaddle, and you’ll likely notice that they throw their arms out in a dramatic way, as if they’ve just been startled. This is called their Moro reflex, and is completely normal up to about three months old. Dr. Mitzner says, “It is used to assess the baby’s central nervous system at birth.”

Their Moro reflex can be elicited when they are startled, or it can happen when the baby feels a sense of falling. Dr. Mitzner says, “Your pediatrician will check this and ensure the Moro reflex is present and normal.” So, basically, you want them to do this.

They are very, very noisy sleepers.

At this point, it’s pretty clear that infant sleep is anything but peaceful. They can keep their eyes open, they might breathe erratically, they can startle easily, and they make tons of little noises. While some of those noises might seem worrisome, they’re probably just normal baby behavior. “In the first months of life, babies breathe through their noses, which are narrow,” says Dr. Kramer, adding that it can often cause them to whistle.

According to Dr. Kramer, another cause of the noises is something called “laryngomalacia,” which basically means that their upper airway is narrow and floppy. “While lying down, they experience some collapse of the airway, which creates a sensation of noisy breathing due to the turbulence of the airflow,” says Dr. Kramer. “They do, in fact, grow out of this by four to six months.”

They have swollen genitals.

Don’t be alarmed by the appearance of your baby’s not-so-tiny genitals, whether they’re male or female. This is just caused by the natural process of squeezing through a tight birth canal. Bruno says, “The swelling can be caused by maternal hormones or from a prolonged labor where mom receives more fluids. Usually this swelling resolves within two weeks as the hormones from pregnancy and birth disappear, and the extra fluids from birth reabsorb.”

They have what seems like diarrhea, but it’s normal.

How many bowel movements can a small infant possibly make? As it turns out, quite a lot, especially in those first few weeks. Dr. Mitzner says that their diapers will need to be changed often, and their stool might look like diarrhea. She explains, “Breast fed babies typically have a bowel movement after every feeding. It can be very loose, mustardy yellowish, soft, and watery, and parents may think it is diarrhea, but it is not.”

They spit up all day long.

You might think you’re ready for baby spit-up, but you probably aren’t prepared for just how much of it there is. Sometimes it feels like they’re spitting up so much that you wonder how they could possibly be digesting that much food. “Newborn babies spit up because their lower esophageal sphincter (the ring of muscle between their stomach and their espogahus) needs time to strengthen,” says Bruno. “It often isn’t strong enough and your baby’s belly full of milk can come right back up.”

You’ll notice spitting up even more often if your baby gulps in a lot of air while drinking, which can cause gas. Bruno notes that as long as your baby feeds well and is regularly gaining weight, there’s nothing to worry about. If your baby isn’t interested in feeding and isn’t gaining weight, then it’s something you should speak to a pediatrician about.

They can have a face full of acne.

In those first few weeks with your little one, you might start to wonder where the expression “baby soft skin” actually came from. It’s not abnormal for your baby’s face to resemble a teenager’s face, full of little bumps that look like pimples. And they kind of are. Bruno says, “Around 20% of newborns experience newborn acne and it usually occurs between two and six weeks. We aren’t really sure what causes newborn acne, but we think it occurs due to stimulation of newborn’s sweat glands from mom’s hormones, or the inflammatory reaction to yeast that can colonize on baby’s skin.”

Baby acne, as it’s often called, looks like little red, raised bumps, and can appear all over their tiny face and chest. In general, Bruno says it will clear up on its own. If you really want to do something, keep their skin moisturized with a non-scented, hypoallergenic baby lotion, and avoid picking at it at all costs.

Their skin can peel off.

Does it look like your baby is getting over a serious case of dry skin? That’s because they are. Dr. Mitzner says that sitting around in amniotic fluid for nine months can leave them with very dry, flaky skin when they’re brought into the world. “The peeling does resolve on its own and the skin beneath is soft and normal. There is no treatment necessary,” says Dr. Mitzner, adding that it should resolve in a few weeks.

There’s a spot on their head that pulses like it’s alive.

You might know that all babies have a soft spot on their head, but did you know that it actually moves? It might be slightly alarming to notice their head pulsing, but it’s also normal, and is a glimpse at their heartbeat. “Babies are born with open spots on their skulls called fontanelles, which fuse shut usually around the age nine to 18 months,” says Bruno. “They need those open spots to make space for their rapidly growing brains.”

Dog the Bounty Hunter Contemplated Suicide After Beth Chapman’s Death

Duane “Dog the Bounty Hunter” Chapman admitted he contemplated suicide shortly after the death of his wife, Beth Chapman, during the season finale of Dog’s Most Wanted, which aired on Wednesday, November 6.

The 66-year-old reality TV star got candid about the emotional struggles he faced in the aftermath of her passing.“I’ve only been alone as I showered and I had to run out without a towel because I can’t be alone right now,” he said. “That’s when I start thinking about things. And I lay down to take a nap, and I reached over to touch something, and it was the freaking dog. I don’t realize yet psychologically that she’s gone and I’ll never, ever see her. I don’t realize that.”

Dog also explained that he found it difficult to imagine life without his wife by his side and considered suicide. However, he wondered if Beth would approve of the decision.

“I just hope that I don’t live very much longer without her, because now she made the first step, she’s through the gate,” he said. “She paved a way for me. I want to take a goddamn pain pill so bad. I feel like if I did something to myself right now and passed away suicidal and I got to heaven and was like, ‘Hi honey,’ and would she go, ‘You d–k a– why would you do that?’ Or, would she go, ‘Wow, you’re here.’ I’ll be like ‘Of course I’m here. You left me. I’m here.’ So, am I obligated to do that?”

Us Weekly confirmed that Beth died after a nearly two-year battle with throat and lung cancer on June 26. She was 51 years old. Later that day, Dog announced the news of her death on Twitter. “It’s 5:32 in Hawaii, this is the time she would wake up to go hike Koko Head mountain. Only today, she hiked the stairway to heaven. We all love you, Beth. See you on the other side,” the bounty hunter wrote.

Dog encountered his own health issues when he was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism after he was hospitalized for a heart emergency in September. He explained how the symptoms of the condition terrified him during an episode of The Dr. Oz Show later that month.

“I said, after Beth left, ‘I’m not afraid to die,’” the bounty hunter recalled. “Oh, I was afraid to die. I said, ‘Please let go of my heart, honey. Quit squeezing my heart.’ So I take that back. I’m not afraid to go, I don’t wanna.”

Beth and Dog got married in 2006 and have 13 children between them.

In August, Dog exclusively told Us that he could never marry again after Beth’s death. “There will never be another Mrs. Dog,” he told Us. “We both said, ‘If I die, you can have a man. 10 [men], I don’t care. But don’t marry one.’ … And she said, ‘Don’t take my name off your chest, Dog. Do not get married.’ … Don’t worry, I will not get married. I still put the pillows in the middle of the bed. This morning I thought she was still there.”

Although marriage isn’t in his future, Dog is open to dating. “I have to have the companionship,” he said. “I don’t do single s–t.”

If you or someone you know is in emotional distress or considering suicide, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

It’s a … ! Look Back at the Best Baby Gender Reveal Moments

When it comes to celebrity gender reveals, creativity abounds! Several stars — including Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, Jessica Simpson and Jessica Alba — have gone above and beyond to let their fans and loved ones know what the sex of their babies will be.

The formula is simple enough: Stuff a unique prop — think balls, balloons, piñatas, desserts, boxes and more — with colored powder, confetti or frosting of a certain hue to signify the impending arrival of a little boy or a little girl.

The execution of each A-lister, however, varies greatly from couple to couple. Where Ryan Lochte and Kayla Reid used a wrapped box filled with pink balloons to announce the news that their second child would be a girl, The Bachelorette’s Melissa Rycroft and Tye Strickland opted for a cupcake filled with a blue frosting for their second little boy.

Carly Waddell and Evan Bass and Jason Aldean and Brittany Kerr, meanwhile, used their big reveal as a chance to bring their families closer together. Bass’ sons from a previous union, for instance, had a heck of a time hitting a pink confetti-filled piñata while Aldean’s daughters took aim at baseballs enclosed with the secret of their newest sibling’s sex.

Ultimately, it’s a moment of wonderment, shock and awe as each couple’s future is decided in an instant. Jana Kramer’s husband, Mike Caussin, even broke down in tears to learn that he would welcome his first son with the “I Got the Boy” singer after the musician suffered multiple miscarriages.

Relive those sweet moments and plenty more as you scroll through for major gender reveal inspo below!

'The Witcher' Confirms These 2 Characters Will Have A Bigger Role

Netflix’s The Witcher is one of the streaming service’s most anticipated new shows. The show will follow Geralt of Rivia, who is a Witcher, a monster hunter for hire. Geralt travels an area known as The Continent, searching for work.

Throughout his journeys, in The Witcher books, he meets many people, including Yennefer of Vengerberg and Cirilla of Cintra, more commonly known as Ciri. He falls in love with Yennefer and Ciri becomes kind of like a daughter to Geralt and Yennefer. The three of them will make up a somewhat unconventional family in Netflix’s version of The Witcher.

However, Yennefer and Ciri’s roles are somewhat different in the show than they are in the books. Find out how, ahead.

How are Yennefer’s and Ciri’s roles different in Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’?

According to the showrunner of The Witcher, Lauren Hissrich, she “wanted to introduce Ciri and Yennefer earlier” than they are in the books. That definitely makes sense for a TV show, to introduce characters that will become important early on. This way fans will get to know them and care about their fates even more.

Any adaptation will come with its differences from the source material. Some of those differences will work well while others won’t. Only time will tell which is the case for Yennefer and Ciri’s roles yet so far it seems like a good idea to make them more involved from the beginning.

Geralt fans shouldn’t worry, though. Henry Cavill’s version of the character will get enough screentime. As Hissrich says, “He is on the screen a lot. It’s important to make sure that Ciri and Yen get their due.”

Some fans will likely agree, wanting all three characters to be treated well by the adaptation. Geralt is the protagonist yet Yennefer and Ciri are heroes in their own right. Yennefer is a powerful sorceress and Ciri is a princess who is destined to become a Witcher. These three wonderful characters will be exciting to watch in the show, especially given Yennefer and Ciri’s bigger roles.

Why might Yennefer and Ciri have bigger roles in the show?

According to Hissrich, it is because “we need to understand [each character] individually, so we can understand them together.” This is one of the main reasons that Yennefer and Ciri got bigger roles. This way fans can get to know both of the women as individuals before they are part of Geralt’s life.

According to The Witcher fansite Redanian Intelligence, Hissrich was inspired by the author Andrzej Sapkowski. He told her stories about how strong Polish women were during World War II. Sounds good to us!

What might fan reactions be to Yennefer and Ciri’s bigger roles?

Fan reactions so far seem to be mixed. While some fans are most likely excited to see more of Yennefer and Ciri, others say that it’s a “dumb choice.” Still another fan believes the show will be “not worth watching” with more focus on Yennefer and Ciri. Another fan has a message for those fans, though, saying that “the books focused on them a lot too.” Therefore it makes sense for the show to do the same.

The news isn’t all bad for the show, though. One fan seems to be excited to see more of Yennefer and Ciri, saying that they are happy to see the show being made by “a woman who seems to understand her responsibility.” This fan mentions the Game of Thrones writers, who many fans felt did not fully understand what they were getting into.

The Witcher looks like it’s going to be an interesting show, despite what some might think. The books are well-written and therefore the show will hopefully not disappoint. Fans can also look forward to the acting talents of Henry Cavill (Geralt), Anya Chalotra (Yennefer), and Freya Allan (Ciri).

The Apprentice race row rages on as Iasha Masood is sacked

‘Oh, we’re back to the ethnic firing! Fun!’ The Apprentice race row rages on as fans are left SEETHING that Iasha Masood is sacked and ‘offensive’ Lottie Lion lives to see another week

The Apprentice has come under fire this year for seemingly picking off those from an ethnic minority group when it comes to the boardroom firings.

And this week was no different as account manager Iasha Masood was given the boot by Lord Sugar, after finding herself on the losing team for the roller-coaster task.

Iasha is the fifth black and minority ethnic candidate to be axed from this year’s series, following the likes of Shahin Hassan, Kenna Ngoma, Souleyman Bah and Lubna Farhan who have been fired in previous weeks.

Backlash: The Apprentice has come under fire this year for seemingly picking off those from an ethnic minority group when it comes to the boardroom firings – and this week has been no different

Fans returned to Twitter to express their outrage over this – and complain that Lottie Lion has remained in the process despite her confrontational behaviour and accusations of behind-the-scenes racism.

‘Lol so are they literally JUST firing the people of colour this series or…?’ someone asked, while another posted: ‘Oh, we’re back to the ethnic firing. Fun.’

‘ANOTHER MINORITY FIRED. Shockahhhh,’ came another, as someone else penned: ‘Is that the last of the ethnic minorities fired?’

Bringing Lottie, 19, into things – and highlighting 27-year-old Iasha’s impressive performance in the process thus far – someone wrote:  ‘Wasn’t Iasha the project manager when her team successfully made 1 million in sales? Yet Lottie who admitted she has no intentions to work in a team and Dean [Ahmad] who has more lives than a cat the amount of times he’s nearly been fired are still here. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!’

Sent packing: In a shock-firing on Wednesday’s edition, promising businesswoman Iasha was sent home by Lord Sugar

‘Keeps in Lottie and Scarlett [Allen-Horton] while [Iasha] was given a chance to do anything in the task. Even in the previous task, she did an incredible job and everyone still treated her like s**t. There is a racist culture in the apprentice! Disgrace,’ ranged another.

Somebody else suggested: ‘Love how all the ethnic minority candidates are getting fired each week on #TheApprentice. It seems to me that the entire line up this year was just to show that they were considering a more diverse pool of talent to avoid any criticism.’

Lottie came under fire in previous weeks when it emerged she had allegedly referred to fellow contestant Lubna as  ‘Gandhi’ on a WhatsApp group.

Gone: Iasha was sent home by Lord Sugar, after finding herself on the losing team for the roller-coaster task

Outrage: Fans returned to Twitter to express their outrage over this – and complain that Lottie Lion has remained in the process despite her confrontational behaviour and accusations of behind-the-scenes racism

Iasha told MailOnline following her firing that the whole thing ‘came as a shock’.

She admitted: ‘I thought that I was doing well. But I think, from a business perspective, it was a fair decision. From a character perspective I didn’t stand out enough I guess.

‘I am so so gutted that I went out but I think, being a kind person, I got sidelined a bit. I know that I am fair and ethical and I believe in being nice in business.

Offensive? Lottie came under fire in previous weeks when it emerged she had allegedly referred to fellow contestant Lubna as ‘Gandhi’ on a WhatsApp group

Wrong decision: Iasha told MailOnline following her firing that the whole thing ‘came as a shock’

‘Kindness is important in business – but it’s less fun to watch. It’s a shame that the process is like that, but I know I’d rather watch drama than a nice person.’

Iasha’s performance on the show was far more impressive than many of the candidates still in the process.

She achieved a record-breaking win as the Project Manager on one task and was seen to be a rising star with promise.

The Apprentice continues next Wednesday at 9PM on BBC One.

The Bravermans Are Back! Parenthood Cast Set to Reunite at Upcoming ATX Television Festival

Family is forever — just ask the Bravermans!

To celebrate 10 years since Parenthood premiered on NBC, the cast of the beloved series is set to reunite at the ninth annual ATX Television Festival in June 2020.

The Austin, Texas-based event will bring together some of the show’s actors, as well as series creator Jason Katims and writer/executive producer David Hudgins for a special script reading and anniversary panel.

Peter Krause (Adam Braverman), Lauren Graham (Sarah Braverman), Monica Potter (Kristina Braverman), Erika Christensen (Julia Braverman-Graham), Mae Whitman (Amber Holt) and Craig T. Nelson (patriarch Zeek Braverman) are all expected to attend the event.

ATX confirmed that there are still some surprises about the reunion that remain under wraps, but fans can certainly plan to get emotional. As many viewers know, the series delivered a number of tear-jerking episodes while on air.

“More #Parenthood news will be coming, so stay tuned…” they wrote on Twitter, before joking, “(And now would probably be a good time to start stocking up on tissues, FYI.)”

Parenthood made its television debut on March 2, 2010.

Besides Krause, Graham, Potter, Christensen, Whitman, and Nelson, the series also starred Dax Shepard (Crosby Braverman), Bonnie Bedelia (matriarch Camille Braverman), Miles Heizer (Drew Holt), Sam Jaeger (Joel Graham), Savannah Paige Rae (Sydney Graham), Max Burkholder (Max Braverman), Sarah Ramos (Haddie Braverman), Joy Bryant (Jasmine Trussell), and Tyree Brown (Jabbar Trussell).

The NBC series followed Zeek and Camille, their four children (Adam, Sarah, Julia, and Crosby), and their individual families as they navigated life, love, and loss in Berkeley, California.

After six seasons on the air, Parenthood came to a close, with the final episode airing on January 29, 2015.

Ahead of the series finale, the cast reflected on their time working together with The Hollywood Reporter and revealed that their bond was not only strong on-screen, but off-screen as well.

“There are many shows where you intend to keep in touch, and the nature of what we do is that everybody moves on in so many different directions that maybe they will find a new family in whatever their next job is, but I have never been so confident that the members of my immediate family in this show will continue to be in my life forever,” Graham, 52, told the outlet.

“They have become part of my life and that is just unusual,” she added.

“I feel the same way,” Whitman, 31, chimed in. “It never ends. There is this sort of foreboding feeling, and for me to genuinely not have that in any way and just know that we have become daily ingrained parts of each other’s lives.”

“I mean, [Graham] and I do mundane things together all the time. It has just spiraled into something so woven into the fiber of who I am,” she continued. “I don’t even remember what it was like before knowing these people.”

Retro games and the problems with PAL

Many of us have old video games and consoles tucked away from the glory days of the '80s and '90s and — as with vinyl records — the reproduction, restoration and playing of those games is only growing in popularity. But getting the best out of old games and consoles on modern TVs and equipment can be a challenge, and to make matters worse the specific design of Australian and European machines can put them out of step with retro solutions formulated for the US and Japanese markets.

An argument could be made that, in order to preserve the original artistic intention, old games should be played on an era-appropriate CRT TV with original cables or similar, but I suspect most people would prefer to do away with the fiddly tuning and smudgy picture of RF switches. There's a balance you'll need to strike between the issues of ancient TVs (tiny screens, aged wiring, deadly weight) and the compromises of modern ones (over-sharpening, inaccuracies, input delay). A relatively recent CRT TV is often a good compromise, but unless you have a room to spare you'll probably be looking to hook your console to your loungeroom's flat panel.

It’s possible to get a good image from a Nintendo 64 to a HD TV, but not if the 64 happens to be from Australia.Credit:Tim Biggs

Every old console has its own unique quirks and a different set of issues if you're looking for ideal image quality, with some natively outputting a clear RGB signal that modern equipment will love, and others stuck with a less-than-ideal picture unless you invest in pricey hardware modifications.

Yet even in the best case scenarios — such as the Sega Mega Drive which natively outputs relatively good resolution RGB video — Australian hardware has the added complication of having been designed for the old PAL TV standard, which is no longer used. Essentially the image is a different shape and runs at a different speed than modern TVs generally expect, which can make for some ugly artefacts.

And PAL gear was often deficient in other ways too. I've recently been testing the EON Super 64, a simple and ingenious device that allows a Nintendo 64 to output 480p directly into a TV or upscaler. The 64 is one of the most difficult game consoles to use in a modern context, so even though this adapter is expensive at $217, it's the only way I know to get a sharp, good-looking image from a 64 onto a HD TV without internal modifications. Unfortunately, as you may have guessed, it doesn't work on Australian consoles. The video output works differently enough that anything beyond standard (horrible-looking) composite video needs to be specifically wired for PAL.

So if you've got old games or consoles lying around and would like to get them working on your modern TV, where should you start? If we're talking Mega Drive or Super Nintendo there are plenty of clone systems that make things convenient even if they remove the charm of original hardware. The best of the best are the Mega Sg and Super Nt, both from US-based Analogue.

If you're tinkering on the cheap and would prefer to connect your existing consoles to the TV you have, one of the most universal pieces of equipment you'll need (besides isopropyl alcohol and cotton swaps for getting grime off those old cartridge contacts) is a SCART transcoder or adapter. SCART plugs were common in Europe and you don't see them on the back of many Aussie TVs, but they're capable of carrying a diversity of different signals. If you can find a way to get your TV accepting SCART you're only a $10 cable away from having anything from a Sega Master System to a Nintendo GameCube displaying nicely.

You can get SCART transcoders that plug into your TV by component cables or HDMI. As with cables the prices start low and go very high, but expect to pay at least $30–$100 for a reliable transcoder or adapter.

There are even clever people on the internet that will wire up and sell you a SCART cable for your Australian Nintendo 64. Unfortunately, with limited s-video support and no chance of supporting an RGB output, not even the best quality cables will get PAL Mario 64 looking nice on your high definition TV.

The NHL seems to disagree about its cocaine usage

Is there a cocaine problem in the NHL? Depends on who you ask.

Several players in recent years have admitted to using the drug — including Oilers forward Zack Kassian and former longtime NHLer Nick Boynton — while others have been involved in higher-profile incidents.

“It’s really the secret that everybody knows,” one former NHLer told The Athletic, adding that ecstasy usage is on the rise, as well. “Guys are just popping molly on the weekends or before a team Halloween party or whatever.”

The topic of drug usage in the NHL made headlines this offseason when Washington Capitals star Evgeny Kuznetsov denied using drugs after video surfaced of him in a hotel room alongside a few lines of a white powder. Kuznetsov later tested positive for cocaine while playing for Russia at the world championship in May, and was issued a four-year ban by the International Ice Hockey Federation.

The NHL suspended Kuznetsov for three regular-season games for what it called “inappropriate conduct.”

While the NHL takes a lax stance to its drug testing — all players are tested, but are not suspended for a positive first test — cocaine has become a cause for concern around league front offices. The Athletic reports that one executive said rumors of top players “developing a reputation” for usage are “rampant.”

“Cocaine is a huge drug now,” Anaheim Ducks forward and former New Jersey Devils star Adam Henrique said. “It seems so casual, that it’s not a big deal; like having a beer almost, which is kinda scary. Where does it stop?”

But for other players, however, the level of concern seems to be much lower.

According to an anonymous ESPN poll, 58% of respondents said the NHL doesn’t have a cocaine problem, with 32% not being sure and 10% saying the league does.

“I don’t think there is a problem compared to the problem outside the NHL,” one player told ESPN. “It’s probably the same. I’d guess some people would use it to party, I’d assume, but what is a problem? How would you define ‘problem’?”

“Has anyone said yes to this question?,” another responded. “I really don’t think there is one, so I’d be shocked if someone said yes.”

The clitoris isn’t just for orgasms — it makes human life

Life itself depends on a woman feeling good.

The clitoris isn’t just for pleasure — it’s also vital for reproduction, according to a study published Tuesday in the journal Clinical Anatomy.

The titillating findings make the case for clitoral stimulation, and all the wonderful things that happen as a result of it — in addition to the obvious, writes the study’s lead author Roy J. Levin of the UK’s University of Sheffield.

The stimulation triggers an exciting wave of events, from the brain to the female genital tract. The changes include increased vaginal blood flow, lubrication and an increase in vaginal temperature. When taken together, the cascade of events is “of major importance in facilitating the possibility of reproductive success,” Levin writes.

He adds that the biggest plus in clitoral stimulation is when the cervix changes position. Doing so prevents semen from traveling into the uterus too rapidly, increasing the likelihood they’ll fertilize an egg.

And the findings aren’t just one big case for the female orgasm — they also add to the argument for ending a contentious human-rights issue. Clitoridectomy, or female circumcision, has affected more than 200 million girls and women alive today across 30 countries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia, according to the World Health Organization, which has called on health providers to end the practice. The practice should fall under increased scrutiny due to its effects on reproduction, Levin writes in the study.

“The often repeated mantra, that the sole function of clitoris is to induce sexual pleasure, is now obsolete,” Levin says in a press release. “The concept changes a major sexual belief, and the physiological evidence is now obvious.”

This will all likely come as a shock to many men, almost half of whom cannot so much as identify a vagina.

The 1 Reason the Cost of Your Netflix Subscription Will Probably Increase Soon

That Netflix will soon increase its prices is not news. Such increases are pretty regular and pretty predictable. Reactions are pretty predictable too – every time a hike is announced, people complain and drop or threaten to drop the service.

Or they might at least drop it temporarily and re-up when there’s something new they want to see.

And therein lies the main reason the price is bound to go up again soon. It’s not just because Netflix is facing more and more competition, with the likes of Disney+ and Apple TV+. It’s because Netflix is paying billions of dollars to keep the content fresh, and some of that cost is passed on to the viewer.

How much has Netflix raised its prices?

Although Netflix’s DVD-by-mail operation still exists, we’re only considering the history of the company as a streaming outlet, and that started in 2010, when the price was $7.99. The price for the same plan is now $12.99 per month, so the price increased about 60 percent in 10 years, according to Quartz.

Throughout that time, the streaming service has gained 140 million subscribers, becoming the dominant force in the industry. It has faced competition from the likes of Amazon, Hulu and HBO, but Netflix remains the predominant streaming outlet in the US — so much so that Netflix has become kind of shorthand for any streaming content, even if it’s not on Netflix.

Consider the protest a religious group made against Good Omens, despite the fact that it was actually an Amazon show.

When the prices go up, they usually go up about $1 a time. The price hike earlier this year was $2, which set off some alarm bells. It may or may not be a coincidence that Netflix saw a drop in subscriptions this year, according to CNBC.

More competition is on the way

The remainder of this year will be pivotal for Netflix, with Apple TV+ and especially Disney+ serving to undercut Netflix’s dominance. Both companies did this with price points significantly lower than Netflix: Disney with $7 a month and Apple at $5 a month. Mighty as both those companies are, they’re still new to the streaming game, particularly Apple, which up until now hasn’t been a content producer.

Netflix knew very well this was coming. That’s why, according to this chart, Netflix has been spending more and more money on content. In 2015, the spend was $1 billion, which is massive enough, but, the amount has increased almost every quarter, with the most recent amount being nearly $4 billion dollars.

Netflix has spent money not only to keep its current producers, like the Duffer Brothers of Stranger Things in the fold, but to lure producers that have had massive success before them, including Shonda Rhimes and David Benioff and DB Weiss of Game of Thrones. They spent upwards of $100 million to finance Martin Scorsese’s movie The Irishman, when other Hollywood studios balked at such a massive price tag. Someone has to help pay for all those deals. And that someone will be us.

Netflix isn’t going anywhere, even if viewers start to

There will no doubt be people who will defect from Netflix to Disney, Apple, and/or HBO Max, which this week announced a hefty lineup of original product from the Warner libraries.

Even so, the idea of a “Netflix killer” seems silly, because numerous products have been dubbed “iPhone killers” and those certainly have remained dominant being the most expensive products on the market.

Apple’s offerings are especially thin, and while Disney’s are not, they still won’t have every MCU film or every Pixar film even after its launch date.

But instead of killing Netflix, all the new services will more likely hurt traditional cable and satellite companies, as streaming increasingly becomes the norm. Netflix may erode, but it will always be seen as the leader, as content and prices continue to do the opposite of eroding.

Chris Harrison Says 'The Bachelor' Can't Feature Too Much Diversity For Fear Of The Show Getting Cancelled

In the past few years, The Bachelor franchise has made some strides in creating a more diverse show. In 2017, The Bachelorette featured its first black star (Rachel Lindsay), and the most recent season of Bachelor In Paradise featured the show’s first same-sex engagement (Demi Burnett and Kristian Haggerty–who have since split up).

The show still has a long way to go, though, to be considered inclusive.

Franchise host Chris Harrison recently spoke to a group of journalism students at the University of Southern California about “diversity and the behind-the-scenes of the reality television series,” according to The Daily Trojan.

The discussion went over-time because Harrison took so many student questions.

Chris Harrison addresses the diversity issue

One student, after professing her love for the show, asked Harrison if the producers are conscious of the audience’s desire to see more diversity and if we can expect better representation in the future.

Harrison agreed that when the show first began in 2002 it did not do a great job of casting diverse contestants. He does feel representation has improved through the years, but that he and the producers can’t make any “great social statements” anytime soon.

“It was incumbent on us to change that narrative, and we have done that,” he said. “Over the last several years, we have taken great strides in … trying to make you feel more represented. While I would love to only make great social statements and really change the world, I can’t just do that because we have to stay on the air … or I’m not making a social statement to anyone.”

Harrison went on to say that he feels The Bachelor team can’t force diversity on its viewers.

“You have to take it as it comes … because then it’s organic and then it feels right,” he said. “When you try to force things is when it backfires on you … We took that step in that we had our first African American, but I didn’t look at her and go, ‘So happy she’s Black.’ I’m happy that she’s a badass woman, and oh by the way she also happens to be African American.”

Another student asked Harrison about the likelihood of a gay Bachelor ever taking place.

Harrison said he does not know if that will ever happen.

The franchise’s host believes that The Bachelor‘s role isn’t to change society, but rather, to change as society changes. He used Lindsay and Burnett as examples of the show evolving with the culture.

Harrison also mentioned that many of the people who work on The Bachelor behind-the-scenes are of different races and sexual orientations.

‘The Bachelor’ is very much ‘real,’ according to Chris Harrison

The host also discussed how much of the show is “real,” and how much is produced–a hot Bachelor Nation topic, especially after this last season of Bachelor In Paradise.

Harrison assured the audience that the contestants are real people who he and the producers truly care about.

“You kind of have to take your hand off the wheel and let stuff happen,” he said.

Harrison said that what the contestants say is never scripted, but that producers construct environments that force contestants to “deal with each other” in interesting ways.

Breathtaking picture shows the Milky Way above the Dolomites

Billions of stars were captured in the most breathtaking panoramic shot, showing the entire Milky Way galaxy shining above the Dolomites.

Astrophotographer Alberto Ghizzi Panizzi created the awesome image of the galaxy filling the night sky with stars.

The Italian photographer painstakingly pieced 12 images together to create the stunning panoramic shot, that shows the famous Three Peaks of Lavaredo mountains.

Alberto, from Parma, Italy, is an astrophotography and macro photography enthusiast and said he’s ‘amazed by the wonder of nature’.

He said: ‘I had to hike through the night to get to the right position. It was freezing cold but the long walk kept me warm.’

The Milky Way lines up above the Dolomites for only a couple of nights each year, meaning that if the sky had been cloudy, Alberto would have to wait until next year to take the breathtaking shot.

He added: ‘At this time of year the Milky Way is positioned right above the Tre Cime di Lavaredo and really visible too – it’s the best time to capture a picture like this. The picture was taken using 12 vertical separate pictures and then put together again. This is one of my favourite places to photograph. It looks like something from another world.’

The US Army trick that will help you fall asleep anywhere in 120 seconds – The Sun

YOU'VE tried counting sheep and even picturing your happy place in your mind.

But no matter what, your brain just won't switch off and let you drift peacefully into the land of nod.

Worst of all, the next day you can't concentrate and keep making mistakes.

It was something the US Army realised was affecting fighter pilots in the Second World War.

Their stress and fatigue was building up so much due to sleeplessness that they were making terrible, avoidable decisions.

Even when they clocked off, they couldn't relax and get to sleep.

So, the US Navy Pre-Flight School came up with a scientific method to fall asleep day or night, in any conditions, in under two minutes.

The technique, revealed in a book titled  'Relax and Win: Championship Performance', was said to work for 96 per cent of pilots after just six weeks of practice – even after drinking coffee, with machine gunfire being played in the background.

In training, the pilots were taught to fall asleep upright in a chair, their feet flat on the floor and their hands limp against their laps.

So, if you fancy trying it out in bed – where you can stretch all you want – means you've already got a head start. Here's how it works…

Relax your face

Once you're in position the key is to focus on the face – think of it as the epicentre of your emotions.

Start by closing your eyes and breathe slowly and deeply.

Then relax all 43 muscles in your face – don't squint or frown – let everything go loose.

Breathe out and feel your cheeks, mouth, tongue and jaw relax.

Try and focus on relaxing your eyes by letting them fall deep into their sockets – when these go limp it sends a signal to the rest of your body that it's time to unwind.

Drop your shoulders

Next step is to drop your shoulder as low as they'll go, as if they're floating down your body.

You should feel the back of your neck loosen too.

Then, it's time to relax your arms, starting with your dominant side.

If you're right-handed, focus on relaxing your right bicep – if it won't, tense it first then let it go loose.

Then move to the forearm, thinking about letting that relax, before doing the same with your hand and fingers.

Repeat the same process on the other side.

Loosen your legs

Your upper body should be nice and limp – like it's sinking into you – so it's time to turn to the lower half.

Starting with your right thigh, tell the muscle to sink like a dead weight, followed by the calf muscles.

Follow the same technique with your ankle and foot and you should feel your leg relax.

Work through the process on the left leg – going through the thigh, to the calf and down to the foot.

Every muscle in your body, from your face to your toes, should now be relaxed.

Clear your mind

The last step is to completely clear your mind for 10 seconds.

Don't think about what went wrong that day, or what time you need to get up.

These types of thoughts involve movement and just thinking about them is enough to make your muscles involuntarily contract.

Instead, keep your mind still by focusing on a static image in your head.

One trick is to imagine you are lying on a couch in a pitch black room and hold that image for 10 seconds.

If that doesn't work, you can try saying the words "don't think" repeatedly for the duration.

This should clear out any thoughts that stop your brain from wandering.

New study suggests the universe may actually be a giant loop

The universe may actually be curved, like a giant inflated balloon, a new study claims.

A study published on Monday in the journal Nature Astronomy examines data from the cosmic microwave background (CMB), which is the faint echo of the “Big Bang,” to conclude that the universe is not flat. The findings, however, contradict years of conventional wisdom in astronomy.

According to researchers, if the universe is curved, that curve is a gentle one.

The idea that if you traveled far out into space beyond our galaxy moving in a straight line — you’d eventually be back where you started — is known as a “closed universe.”

Most scientists believe instead in the idea of a “flat universe” that extends out in all directions and does not loop in on itself.

Researchers claim to have found an anomaly in the CMB, which provides crucial information about the universe.

The latest data reportedly shows that there’s significantly more “gravitational lensing” of the CMB than expected — meaning that gravity seems to bend the microwaves of the CMB more than existing physics can explain.

Sapienza University of Rome cosmologist Alessandro Melchiorri explained to Live Science that the closed-universe model would raise a range of problems for the field of physics.

“I don’t want to say that I believe in a closed universe,” he told Live Science. “I’m a little bit more neutral. I’d say, let’s wait on the data and what the new data will say. What I believe is that there’s a discrepancy now, that we have to be careful and try to find what is producing this discrepancy.”

The Best Ways To Get Your Kid's Halloween Candy Out Of The House (& Do Some Good)

Halloween is over. But once the last jack-o-lantern has rotted and the first holiday songs start to play, there’s still a problem many parents face: What to do with all that candy. However you deal with candy in the immediate aftermath of the holiday, many pediatricians and dieticians recommend eventually transitioning your kids to just a few pieces a day as a treat. Many kids will naturally lose interest after a bit, leaving parents with an excess of fun-sized candies to deal with. Another potential source for tons of candy: the candy you bought, not your kid’s free spoils. If you live on a quiet street (or just overestimated your trick-or-treater needs) you may have quite a lot of candy on your hands that will take a long time to disappear if you only dole it out a piece at a time.

In the past few years, a number of organizations have found ways to address this post-Halloween candy excess responsibly. Your own local communities may have their own programs at food banks or shelters as well, but here are a few national options:

1. Operation Gratitude

Operation Gratitude sends care packages to troops overseas, as well as veterans and first responders. Package contents vary but each one includes a handful of candy. You can read about Operation Gratitude’s guidelines for candy donation, but there are a few things to note: They cannot cover shipping and ask that you don’t send a package where the cost of mailing is more than the value of the candy itself. If you just have a few small handfuls of candy sitting around, this could be a good project to go in on with neighbors and friends. You can also include other donations to Operation Gratitude in the package as long as they are packaged separately from the candy.

2. Halloween Candy Buy Back

Many dentists opt to buy candy from kids at the rate of $1 a pound. You can see if any dentists or businesses near you are registered with the official program, or contact your kid’s dentist directly to see if they have their own program set up. Dentists are natural partners for these initiatives since candy can contribute to tooth decay. But they’re not just gleefully destroying the candy they buy from kiddos: Those participating will often then send candy to programs like Operation Gratitude.

3. Treats for Troops

Soldier’s Angels does similar care package work as Operation Gratitude and also does a candy donation push around Halloween. Instead of soliciting donations by mail, however, they also allow businesses to register as drop-off locations. You can see if there is a drop-off location in your area. Registration for becoming a drop-off site for 2020 will open next August.

4. Operation Shoebox

Another charity that takes candy donations for troops, they will also accept individually-wrapped candies around Valentine’s Day, Easter, and beyond. See more about donating here.

5. Ronald McDonald House

Ronald McDonald House Charities accept nonperishable donations year-round, and some will accept unopened Halloween candy to keep around for sweet treats for families. You should contact your local Ronald McDonald House to learn their policies.

Dark secrets of the cast of Today

We’ve always been able to count on the Today show to wake us up with its cheerful — and, admittedly, a little saccharine — morning banter. Like a fresh cup of coffee, Today is a perky little antidote to whatever dark truths are currently plaguing normal, everyday life.

Yet at the same time, the show’s cast members have been confronting their own dark truths, making them one of the most interesting groups of folks on daytime TV. While the firing of former anchor Matt Lauer made headlines amid allegations of sexual misconduct, a look behind the scenes reveals plenty of other scandals, heartbreak, rivalries, gaffes, and hurt feelings to last a lifetime.

So, what kinds of things keep the cast members of Today up at night? Today, we’re digging through it all — what went on off camera, as well as in their pasts — to uncover just that. Hang on to your hats and read on to discover the dark secrets of the cast of Today.

Today's Kathie Lee Gifford has suffered from 'crippling loneliness'

If there were ever a perfect morning talk show host, it would be Kathie Lee Gifford, whose bubbly personality left a huge mark on Today‘s fourth-hour time slot. However, she went through her “darkest time” following the deaths of her husband, Frank, in 2015 and her mother two years later. “It dawned on me the other day,” Gifford told AARP The Magazine in March 2019 (via Entertainment Tonight). “I’m a widow, I’m an orphan, because my mother also passed and I’m an empty nester all at the same time.” Her daughter, Cassidy, and son Cody — both in their twenties — are now out of the house.

Gifford went on to reveal that she’s relied on family and friends to help her get through it, saying, “I found myself dealing with crippling loneliness. I had to make moves and spiritual moves. You gotta make new memories or the old ones are going to kill you.”

Carson Daly has dealt with severe panic attacks

Carson Daly, who joined Today in 2013, got candid about his struggles with anxiety in 2018. Joining the ranks of others in media who’ve advocated for mental health, Daly revealed to Today that he’s suffered from generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) for years. According to Mayo Clinic, GAD is “characterized as persistent worrying or anxiety about a number of areas that are out of proportion to the impact of the events.”

Revealing that he experienced his first panic attack while hosting an episode of MTV’s Total Request Live, Daly told Today that the feeling of panic is terrifying: “At times I feel like there’s a sabertooth tiger right here and it’s going to kill me attack me and bite my head off. I’m scared as if that’s really happening. You feel like you’re dying.”

Having worked with a cognitive therapist, Daly has continued to combat his feelings of anxiety partially with muscle relaxation techniques. Still, he said he can feel the anxiety welling up at times while he’s on air. “If you ever watch The Voice live on NBC — watch on a Monday or Tuesday night, I’m never still,” Daly told Today. “It’s the same thing with the Today show in the morning. Some days I’m just a little anxious.”

This Today show cast member had an accident in public

Everyone loves Today‘s weather anchor Al Roker, probably because he’s never been known to mince words. So, when Roker found himself, well, sharting in the White House of all places, it should have been no surprise that he recounted all the gory details himself on national TV.

The whole ordeal went down back in 2002, right after Roker’s well-known gastric bypass surgery. In an interview with Dateline over a decade later (via TMZ), Roker revealed that, while covering an event at the White House, he ended up having a mini-emergency: “I probably went off and ate something I wasn’t supposed to. And as I’m walking to the press room, [I’m thinking] well, I gotta pass a little gas here. I’m walking by myself. Who’s gonna know? Only a little something extra came out. I pooped my pants.”

After presumably rushing to the restroom, Roker recalled, “I threw out the underwear and went commando” (via Business Insider).

Al Roker was reprimanded for some off-color comments

The weather anchor on a morning show tends to bring comic relief — but after a while, the suits at NBC reportedly weren’t laughing at Al Roker anymore. According to Page Six, execs asked the Today show star to tone down his commentary in 2014. “He was saying weird things and becoming too idiosyncratic,” a source claimed. “They asked him to act more like a traditional weatherman.”

We suppose this doesn’t seem too unrealistic, considering Roker’s history of hilariously uncomfortable on-air gaffes. And, of course, his White House sharting confession couldn’t have helped matters either. Even though the insider cited by Page Six alleged that Roker “took their comments to heart and is playing ball,” there have been some questionable on-air moments since then. In 2015, he was forced to apologize after taking an “insensitive” selfie with coworkers in front of a car accident. There was also that time in 2019 when he called Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin a “nitwit.”

Still, Roker seems pretty self-aware about his difficulties with being PC. He even defended fellow TV meteorologist Jeremy Kappell for accidentally making a racist slur on camera, tweeting out, “Anyone who has done live tv and screwed up (google any number of ones I’ve done) understands.”

Ann Curry's Today show firing reportedly had Matt Lauer written all over it

While most people remember Ann Curry’s tearful goodbye on Today in 2012, they may not be aware of the long-rumored backstory surrounding her shocking exit. According to The New York Times, Brian Stelter’s tell-all book, Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV, later alleged that the show’s executive producer, Jim Bell, planned to fire Curry as soon as co-host Matt Lauer decided to extend his contract. One staffer supposedly quipped that getting rid of Curry was like “killing Bambi,” leading to reports that her firing had been dubbed “Operation Bambi.”

Once Lauer did renew his contract, Curry was reportedly notified that she was being let go. “Matt’s decision guided everything else,” an NBC exec claimed to Stelter. Curry’s departure wasn’t announced until months later, however, and in the meantime, Stelter wrote that she’d “told friends that her final months were a form of professional torture,” reportedly leaving her both “sad” and “enraged.” According to Today show staffers, Curry was essentially bullied during this time: In addition to her belongings reportedly being thrown in a coat closet, she was allegedly made fun of in the control room, and Bell reportedly commissioned a blooper reel of her worst on-air mistakes, which he has since denied.

Once Curry announced her departure, Today lost millions in advertising revenue, with ratings dropping to 600,000 viewers less than its rival, Good Morning America.

Matt Lauer was fired amid sexual misconduct allegations

One of Today‘s biggest public controversies was the 2017 downfall of one of its most popular anchors, Matt Lauer. After an NBC employee came forward claiming he had sexually assaulted her while they were covering the Sochi Olympics three years prior, the network launched an investigation and fired Lauer.

While NBC released in a statement that this was the first complaint they’d received about Lauer, they “were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident” (via CNN). Indeed, it turns out that various press outlets had already been investigating Lauer for months, including Variety, which later released a story alleging that he’d engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct with three other women.

The controversy around Lauer picked back up again in October 2019, when the accuser in the alleged Sochi incident was revealed to be Brooke Nevils. During an interview with Ronan Farrow for his Catch and Kill book, the former NBC News staffer claimed that Lauer had raped her in his hotel room (via Variety). In a lengthy letter to the publication, Lauer rebutted Nevils’ accusations. Claiming they’d had an “extramarital affair” for several months, he wrote in part, “We performed oral sex on each other, we had vaginal sex, and we had anal sex. Each act was mutual and completely consensual.”

Lauer’s former Today co-hosts, Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb, later respectively called this development “appalling” and “horrific,” while expressing support for Nevils.

What Curry allegedly knows about Lauer could 'destroy' him

After Brooke Nevils claimed in October 2019 that she was raped by Matt Lauer, Ann Curry tweeted her support of the former: “Brooke Nevils is a credible young woman of good character. She came to NBC News an eager and guileless 20-something, brimming with talent. I believe she is telling the truth. And that breaks my heart.”

Around that time, a source cited by Us Weekly claimed that Curry knew more details of Lauer’s reported sexual abuse than she’d let on. “Ann has maintained a dignified silence, but a lot of people confided in her years ago and still do to this day,” the insider alleged. “She knows more than most about the man Matt really is, and when she finally speaks out, it will destroy him.”

As of this writing, Curry has not spoken out directly against Lauer. However, she was quoted in journalist Ronan Farrow’s Catch and Kill claiming that she’d warned NBC higher-ups about Lauer’s alleged behavior long before his firing. “She told me that complaints about Lauer verbally harassing women in the office were well known in her day,” Farrow wrote. “And that once, in 2010, a colleague had pulled her into an empty office and broken down, saying Lauer had exposed himself and propositioned her.” Curry later approached NBC executives on her coworker’s behalf, reportedly saying they had “a problem” with Lauer, but no formal complaint was made in that case.

Meredith Vieira's eco-friendly strategy shocked her Today show castmates

What started as a light discussion about protecting the environment and “going green” turned into a super weird confession from Today‘s Meredith Vieira in 2019. While chatting with co-host Jenna Bush-Hager, Vieira revealed that one way she manages to be eco-friendly is by reusing plastic utensils. And, well .. it gets worse.

“My friends think it’s kind of disgusting,” Vieira admitted. “But I have plasticware that goes back probably 20 years, because I just wash it … I don’t want to throw it away because I feel, where’s it going?”

Twenty years of recycling the same plasticware is a long time, but her next confession was even more mind-boggling. “I also wash the paper plates. That’s probably bad, too,” Vieira continued. For her part, Bush-Hager looked incredulous — to which Vieira insisted with a laugh, “Don’t judge me. Do NOT judge me.” She then explained that she simply wipes the plates off and saves them “for kids’ parties. Because, who cares?”

The hidden tension between Katie Couric and Bryant Gumbel

Fans who remember Today back in the ’90s will recall how co-hosts Katie Couric and Bryant Gumbel were a powerful pair who won over audiences with their playful banter. Yet the funny thing is, reports later revealed that they never really got along.

A couple of years after he left the NBC morning show, Gumbel implied that Couric got too much credit for the show’s success in a 1999 interview with New York Times Magazine. “I do think the comparison is a little unfair in light of the fact that I won in two different decades with two different cohosts,” he said (via E! News). Meanwhile, a source claimed the two definitely weren’t friends, saying, “There were some Academy Award-winning performances by both of them. I don’t think either one of them wanted to spend one minute together.”

Two years earlier, Couric herself admitted their relationship might not have been what it seemed on air, telling the print magazine George: “We were never really that close. There was a lot of creative tension. Well, there was a lot of tension. I don’t know how creative it was.”

Meredith Vieira has struggled with her husband's MS

Meredith Vieira has established herself as one of Today‘s classiest hosts with her poise and professionalism, and we rarely see her private pain. However, her journalist husband, Richard Cohen, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis over 40 years ago. In 2019, Vieira opened up to People about the couple’s struggle with the disease, which attacks the central nervous system, describing it as “progressive.” At the time of this writing, Cohen is legally blind and uses a walker, and Vieira admitted that dealing with the chronic illness hasn’t been easy for either of them.

“We definitely allow each other to vent,” she said. “That’s part of the deal. Certainly he’s allowed to vent, because he’s got chronic illness. But I am too. Because there are days I can’t stand it and the limitations it puts on the entire family. It’s good to say it. But we don’t dwell.”

Indeed, Vieira and Cohen have a lot going for them, considering their successful careers and three children together. As Vieira put it, “You can think, ‘Why us?’ but then it’s like, ‘Why not us?’ So many people are dealing with stuff and it puts it into perspective.”

Today alum Tom Brokaw was accused of sexual harassment

It was a shock to many when former NBC News correspondent Linda Vester came forward with sexual harassment accusations against Today show alum Tom Brokaw in 2018. Claiming that Brokaw tried to forcibly kiss her twice in the mid-90s, Vester detailed his reported pursuit to Variety. Regarding the first alleged incident, Vester claimed, “I jammed myself up against the back of the sofa and I grabbed a throw pillow, because I was trying to signal to him with my body language that I was both frightened and unwilling.” She alleged Brokaw tried to kiss her, but then left — only to supposedly do the same thing the following year.

Brokaw immediately denied the claims in a statement to the publication: “I met with Linda Vester on two occasions, both at her request, 23 years ago, because she wanted advice with respect to her career at NBC. The meetings were brief, cordial, and appropriate, and despite Linda’s allegations, I made no romantic overtures towards her, at that time or any other.” According to Vanity Fair, Brokaw also sent a private email to his friends and family, writing in part, “I write this letter at 4 A.M., the dawn of my new existence as an accused sexual predator.”

As of this writing, Brokaw remains at NBC. In October 2019, Vester slammed the network’s handling of former employees’ NDAs, stating in part (via The Hollywood Reporter), “Women have been through hell with this company.”

Why the Mets and Joe Girardi was never going to work

After Joe Girardi interviewed for a second time for the Mets managerial opening on Oct. 22, the team’s top brass wanted to keep him alive in the process. He wasn’t a clear front-runner and wasn’t eliminated. The Mets preferred to think about him for a longer period.

And the front office’s perception was that Girardi’s preference among all the openings was the Mets. But whether that was true or not, they also had heard what so many in the game had — that Girardi was the clear top choice with the Phillies, especially with owner John Middleton, and that Philadelphia wanted to move quickly.

Brodie Van Wagenen had laid out a multi-tiered process to find Mickey Callaway’s successor. But now the Mets had to at least contemplate whether they wanted to speed up or eliminate elements in case Girardi provided an ultimatum. That never became a factor because Girardi gave a courtesy call the next day to say he was taking the Phillies job and because no matter what, Van Wagenen, insists, “we weren’t going to speed up the process for anyone. The only way to be 100 percent sure about someone was to go through the whole process.”

That is how Girardi and Carlos Beltran became intriguing NL East rivals. Beltran played for Girardi with the Yankees from 2014-16. Now, he will manage against Girardi 19 times a year after being officially introduced Monday as Mets manager.

Girardi hovered over the Met managerial process because he was the only known serious candidate with previous managerial experience, which was made more appealing because he did 10 years already in New York with the Yankees and had won a championship. And he was the consensus fan pick.

But officials briefed on the Met process said Van Wagenen emphasized the need for a comfortable, casual relationship between the GM and a new manager to better forge a united front in a difficult, pressurized atmosphere. And word from inside was that Van Wagenen could not get to that place with Girardi.

Van Wagenen sidestepped the Girardi minefield multiple times at Beltran’s introduction by stating the managerial decision came down to what Beltran could offer rather than what anyone else lacked. Still, Van Wagenen made reference to wanting a situation in which he could “exhale” in comfort when visiting the manager’s office rather than “inhale” in concerned anticipation.

Girardi was gone by the time the Mets got to a final three of Beltran, ESPN’s Eduardo Perez and Minnesota’s Derek Shelton.

“Carlos won, the others didn’t lose,” Jeff Wilpon insisted. “I can’t say enough good things about Eduardo and Derek. They were excellent, excellent candidates. Neither lost. We really just felt great about Carlos.”

The Duggars: A Comprehensive Guide to the Famous Family

Big brood! When it comes to the Duggars, the more members, the merrier — which is why some fans have a hard time keeping track of the famous family.

After tying the knot in July 1984, Jim Bob Duggar and Michelle Duggar (née Ruark) welcomed a total of 19 children, including two sets of twins, and the couple bestowed all of their little ones with J-monikers. Joshua Duggar was the first to arrive in 1988, and Jubilee capped the group of kids in 2009.

Although Michelle announced that she was expecting her 20th child in November 2011, she revealed the next month that she had suffered a miscarriage.

In 2016, the reality stars shared marriage advice after more than three decades together. Their No. 1 piece of advice? “Individually pursue a close relationship with Jesus,” the couple wrote at the time. “The closer we each get to God, the closer we each get to each other.”

The Love That Multiplies authors hit television screens in 2008 when 17 Kids and Counting aired on TLC. As the couple welcomed more children, the reality show was renamed 18 Kids and Counting and 19 Kids and Counting before its 2015 cancellation.

That same year, many members of the Duggar family appeared in the spinoff show Jill and Jessa: Counting On, later renamed Counting On. From courtships and engagements to pregnancy announcements and births, the show follows Jinger Duggar, Jessa Duggar and more as they start families of their own.

As if it wasn’t tough enough for TLC viewers to keep track of Joshua, Jana, John-David, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joy-Anna, Jedediah, Jeremiah, Jason, James, Justin, Jackson, Johanna, Jennifer, Jordyn and Josie’s major milestones, many of the Duggar kids now have children of their own.
